Chapter 219
Zeke also spotted the demons in black armor, exuding a sinister aura, trailing behind the hunting dogs.
It seemed the experiment had shown some results, as the movements of the demons appeared much more stable than before.
One of the hunting dogs approached Bastian.
“Hey, pirate scum. Come here.”
At the hunting dog’s insulting words, Bastian spat out the lizard head he was chewing.
When other pirates tried to stand up, he raised his hand to stop them and slowly approached the hunting dog.
“What is it?”
The hunting dog threw something at Bastian.
It was a wooden container with sealed information.
The hunting dog sneered at Bastian and said.
“You filthy pirates. Do as written in there. Then we might give you worthless bodies a chance to rub against the Empire.”
The other hunting dogs cackled at those words.
Bastian slowly bent down to pick up the container.
Then he turned it according to a preset sequence. The container opened, revealing a coded paper inside.
Bastian quickly read the contents of the paper and swallowed it.
The hunting dog spoke to Bastian.
“Stinking pirate scum. You might catch southern fleas if you’re unlucky.”
The other hunting dogs cackled at this.
Bastian, who had been silently enduring the insults, scratched his head and as he turned around, he suddenly threw the wooden container at the hunting dog.
The hunting dog instinctively caught the container Bastian threw.
That’s when it happened.
HISSS!
A colorful venomous snake sprang out from the container.
“Crazy!”
The hunting dog hastily knocked away the snake and stepped back. The enraged snake raised its head straight at the retreating hunting dog.
Then Bastian, who had been watching this, drew his long, pointed sword and poked the snake’s head.
SCREECH!
The snake went limp after being pierced by Bastian’s sword.
Bastian picked up the snake and thrust it toward the hunting dogs, saying.
“OOPS, how did that get in there? I was keeping it as a snack. Were you scared?”
He looked at the other hunting dogs behind with a sly expression and shrugged.
“What? Got something else to say?”
The hunting dogs glared at Bastian, grinding their teeth, but seeming to decide there was nothing to gain from prolonging this, they spat and turned back.
Bastian sneered at the hunting dogs.
Then he spoke to his companions in rough southern dialect.
“These mainland softies. Always acting like they’re dying to get killed.”
The other pirates burst into laughter. Most of them were pirates from the Favela Cartel.
Zeke clicked his tongue watching Bastian handle the vicious hunting dogs.
‘His temperament is the same as in my past life.’
While Don Juan was famously the most ill-tempered in the southern continent, Bastian was equally eccentric and quick-tempered.
Moreover, unlike Don Juan who led the cartel through organization management and tactics, Bastian was renowned for his combat prowess.
Though he hid his identity, he was both a former rough South Sea pirate and a famous named outlaw.
‘He was even trickier than the Blue Knight.’
In the end, Bastian was one of the cartel bosses that Zeke failed to assassinate in his past life.
While Zeke was recalling his past life, Bastian led his subordinates deeper into the forest.
Though it wasn’t clear who was commanding, it was obvious that Bastian was coordinating with the hunting dogs.
‘Did Abel give the orders? That cautious bastard probably wouldn’t come here himself…’
Zeke followed Bastian’s group from a distance with ghost soldiers in front.
Then Bastian’s group stopped as if they had discovered something.
“Found them. Get ready.”
At Bastian’s words, the pirates drew their weapons.
When Zeke sent the ghost soldiers ahead to look, he saw the White Silver Knights’ camp at the spot Bastian was targeting.
‘Is Sister Kali there?’
Bastian and the pirates drew their weapons and waited for an opportunity.
The knights in the camp were already exhausted and there were many wounded.
When Bastian signaled to the pirates, they stealthily moved down.
‘Even the White Silver Knights would struggle in this situation.’
Pirates and cartel members were used to these kinds of rough skirmishes and close combat.
Zeke quickly ran toward the camp location.
That’s when Bastian threw a magic bomb at the camp.
BOOOM!
The sound of the exploding bomb shook the entire forest.
The White Silver Knights, startled by the magic bomb, hurriedly got to their feet.
“Enemy raid! Everyone, disperse!”
The White Silver Knights were warriors where each individual possessed the strength of a hundred men.
It must have been their judgment that fighting independently and displaying their skills was better than awkwardly grouping together.
However, in the current situation, that judgment was wrong.
‘It doesn’t matter when there are forces supporting from behind, but in a defensive situation like this, it’s far more disadvantageous.’
Moreover, Zeke had another worry.
SWISH! SWISH! SWISH!
Zeke’s ominous premonition wasn’t wrong.
Giant spiders began gathering at the sound of the magic bomb.
GROWL!
Though startled by the sudden influx of spider monsters, the knights calmly pointed their swords.
“HAAH!”
True to their reputation as White Silver Knights, each individual’s skill was beyond compare.
They pierced through tough armor with their swords or cut off legs to reduce the spiders’ mobility.
However, on the battlefield, sword skills alone don’t determine victory or defeat.
While the knights were dealing with the spider monsters, pirates hiding nearby launched an attack from behind.
WHOOSH!
The pirates threw hand axes toward the knights’ backs.
THWACK!
The moment the knights turned briefly to deflect the attacks they had anticipated, the spiders seized the opportunity and spat out their webs.
Originally, these creatures would shoot webs at fleeing prey or use them as a last resort. But the Giant Spiders, having faced the knights several times before, had learned how to deal with them.
SWISH!
“UGHK!”
When the sticky webs attached to their armor, they couldn’t properly move their hands and feet.
GROWL!
The spiders sprayed even stronger webs toward the web-entangled knights.
The knights struggled but became completely immobilized by the hardened webs.
The spiders took the knights they had cocooned in their mouths and retreated.
The White Silver Knights couldn’t get their bearings between the spiders’ attacks and the pirates’ raid.
“Retreat! We must escape this place!”
When the retreat order was given, the White Silver Knights withdrew in perfect unison.
The problem was the wounded.
Those who had their feet bound by webs or were caught in the pirates’ attack couldn’t retreat.
One of the knights shouted.
“Go ahead! I will hold them back!”
He shouted that he would sacrifice himself for his comrades.
The other White Silver Knights clenched their teeth and evacuated with their injured comrades.
The last remaining knight raised his aura and stood against the spiders and attackers.
“HAAAH!”
As if trying to burn his final flame of life, a brilliant aura blade rose from the knight’s sword.
The knight’s sword moved following the dragon-slaying sword technique. The sword cut through not only the charging spiders but also the pirates behind them in one stroke.
THUD!
The spider bodies and pirate bodies completely shattered under the aura blade’s destructive power.
“HUFF, HUFF.”
The completely exhausted knight barely managed to support himself while catching his breath.
That’s when Bastian revealed himself from behind.
“Ha, these Draker bastards. They’re really tough, aren’t they?”
He drew his long, pointed sword and twirled his wrist.
The knight charged at Bastian with a battle cry.
“HYAH!”
But Bastian skillfully avoided the knight’s sword and thrust his blade.
STAB!
“UGH!”
As the knight stepped back, blood seeped from where the sword had pierced him.
Bastian whistled as he approached the wounded knight.
“Let’s finish this quickly and go catch those who ran away. We need to find out where Kali is.”
The pirates giggled at Bastian’s words.
That’s when it happened.
SLICE
The head of the pirate who had raised his axe to strike the immobilized knight’s neck rolled off.
“W-what?”
The pirates looked around in confusion.
They searched for any remaining knights, but there were none.
SLICE!
Another pirate’s head fell.
Bastian’s expression hardened.
Then he grabbed the neck of one of his subordinates beside him and shoved him forward.
“HUH?”
THUD!
The subordinate’s head was cut off as he fell.
“Shit!”
Bastian rolled to the side to dodge.
SWOOSH!
A cold sensation brushed past his nape.
Bastian slowly stood up.
“A hitman? I don’t know which side you’re from, but you’re damn good.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Zeke revealed himself before Bastian.
Using the Stealth skill along with the Will of Silver combat spirit meant that pirates of their level couldn’t even sense his presence.
However, it seemed Bastian had instinctively felt Zeke’s killing intent.
Zeke appeared holding Anexi’s dagger.
He threw a potion from his chest to the wounded knight.
“Drink that and go to where your companions are.”
The knight, not knowing Zeke’s identity, hesitated while holding the potion bottle before drinking it down.
It must have been a high-quality potion as the wounds healed quickly.
The knight didn’t hesitate to get up and immediately darted into the forest.
Bastian watched this and shouted.
“What are you doing?! Catch that bastard!”
Just as Bastian’s subordinates rushed to chase the knight, Ghost warriors appeared from behind and blocked their path.
Zeke spoke to Bastian.
“Bastian of the Favela Cartel. Tell me why you’re here. Then I’ll at least give you a more peaceful death than Don Juan.”
Bastian’s eyes widened at Zeke’s words.
“Don Juan! So you were the one who killed that cursed old pig!”
He glared at Zeke intently and said.
“I was wondering who could have taken down Mekein and the Favela Cartel simultaneously, and here I meet you.”
At Bastian’s signal, the pirates slowly approached Zeke.
Then Zeke said to Bastian.
“Don’t waste time. If you save me time, I’ll give you a less painful death.”
Bastian grinned and said to Zeke.
“I can tell how skilled you are. But hitmen shine brightest during assassinations. You shouldn’t have revealed yourself to me.”
Then Bastian pulled something from his chest.
He pointed what looked like a long metal rod at Zeke.
Zeke knew what Bastian was holding.
‘A magic gun… Did he get it from the Jiemens bastards?’
It was shorter than the magic gun possessed by Aaron, the Knight Killer.
Bastian grinned and said to Zeke.
“You probably can’t even imagine what this thing is.”
Zeke sighed briefly and replied.
“You think you can kill me with that?”
“Of course. It’s a weapon faster than any magic or sword. With this alone, conquering the continent isn’t just a dream.”
As Zeke listened to Bastian’s absurd imagination, he took one step forward.
Then Bastian fired the magic gun at Zeke.
BANG!
The bullet lodged into the ground at Zeke’s feet.
Right after, the circular chamber attached to the magic gun rotated with a click and reloaded another bullet.
‘He can fire the magic gun continuously?’
In his previous life, the biggest reason magic guns became mere nobles’ playthings was that they took too long to reload.
The heat generated from firing condensed magic bullets was so intense that if not properly cooled, the barrel would warp, causing bullets to misfire and risk explosion.
‘Did Jiemens succeed in mass-producing magic guns? Then why weren’t they used in the war in my previous life?’
While Zeke pondered this question, Bastian aimed the gun with a vicious smile.
“Just die.”
BANG!
The bullet flew toward Zeke.
THWACK!
In an instant, Zeke drew the sword from his back and swung it, cutting the bullet in half.
“What? H-how?”
Seeing Zeke slice the bullet with his sword, Bastian realized he had made a mistake.
“N-not a hitman… A k-knight?”
