Chapter 217
‘Is that the Sea God’s island.’
The island they found after passing through the whirlpool was quite large, but being completely surrounded by fog gave it an eerie feeling.
Zeke told the captain to steer the ship toward the coast.
The terrified, trembling captain drove the ship close to the island while mumbling prayers again.
When the ship docked at the shore, Zeke ordered Nahuel to guard the ship.
“If anything seems off, flee immediately.”
URURURURURU!
Zeke took a small boat and entered the island with his companions.
CHAAAAAAAK!
The waves were rougher than expected even right in front of the island.
When the boat finally reached the island, Zeke surveyed the surroundings as he stepped onto the beach.
‘The atmosphere is gloomy, just as it looked from outside.’
It wasn’t as bad as the demon realm they saw in the Inverted Tower, but the fog surrounding them felt like it was weighing heavily on their bodies.
That’s when something caught his Spirit Eye’s senses.
KURURURURUK!
Black shadows suddenly sprang out from the forest beyond the beach.
Zeke shouted to his companions.
“Enemies! Everyone prepare for battle!”
Zeke and his companions drew their weapons.
Shortly after, something jumped out of the forest.
KKEUREURUK!
Spider monsters approached, moving their eight long, massive legs.
“Ugh, what is that?”
Felix stumbled backward at the sight of the creepy spider monsters, but got hit by Clonne and regained his stance.
The spider monsters instantly surrounded Zeke’s group.
Zeke held Bahamut and observed the spider monsters’ movements.
‘Giant Spiders. Not a common monster… I’ve never seen so many of them before.’
Even in the Forest of the Forgotten, these were high-level monsters that could only occasionally be seen in the depths of flood damage.
They were clever creatures with armor-like hard shells covering their bodies, using their spider webs to completely immobilize their targets and take them to their nests as long-term food sources.
‘These creatures are weak to fire.’
Zeke recalled his past life memories and used the Fire Field to create flames.
HWARURURURUK
The spiders retreated as flames rose around Zeke’s group.
KEEEEEEK!
But that was only momentary; excited by prey they hadn’t found in a long time, the monsters tried to charge through the flames.
CHAJAJAJAK!
A large spider, trusting only in its hard armor, charged straight toward the flames.
That’s when Zeke concentrated elemental power to change the quality of the flames.
HWARURURURUK!
White flames that burn everything melted through the hard shell and turned the spider to ash in an instant.
KEEEEEEK!
The spider disappeared with a single scream.
When one of their companions vanished in the flames, the other spiders suppressed their instincts and retreated.
Being intelligent creatures, they had excellent learning ability.
Nevertheless, the spiders watched Zeke’s group while staying back, waiting for the fire to go out.
‘Persistent creatures.’
Since he couldn’t maintain pure fire forever, Zeke also needed to devise a plan.
He opened his map to search for a suitable location for a base camp.
‘Is this some special fog? The terrain features aren’t showing up properly on the map.’
There was no choice but to look around personally.
Zeke thought of a strategy and spoke to his companions.
“As you can see, these creatures are weak to flames. I’ll attach sacred fire to each of your weapons, so target their undersides as much as possible when you get close. That’s their weak point.”
Zeke activated the special skill Sacred Fire.
Then sacred fire rose from not only Zeke’s sword but also his companions’ weapons.
“Wow, what is this, my lord?”
Zeke looked at Felix and said.
“Think of it as fire that can deal multiple times the damage to monsters and demons. While you deal with the spiders here, I’ll go inside the forest to look for a place for our base camp. This white flame will last for an hour, so if more monsters gather, come inside and send up a flare.”
After giving instructions to his companions, Zeke quickly came out of the white flames.
KKEUREUREURUK!
The spiders instantly swarmed toward Zeke as he left the white flames.
Zeke ran toward the forest using wind Step, distancing himself from where his companions were.
KEEEEEEK!
The spiders shot webs at the running Zeke.
At that moment, Zeke swung his sword with the power of Sacred Fire.
A mass of light fell like an explosion between the spider swarm.
KWAKWAKWAKWANG!
KIIIIIIIIK!
The spiders caught in the sacred fire screamed in agony.
Zeke was gradually getting a sense of Sacred Fire’s abilities.
‘The Mace of Light and Shield are also combined in this. Then…’
Zeke used Sacred Fire while imagining a light shield.
The sacred fire then swelled up and transformed into something like a light shield.
‘So this is how it works. Perfect.’
Zeke threw the sacred fire shield toward the approaching spider monsters.
KUGUGUGUGU!
The massive shield blocked the spider monsters like a wall.
KEEEEEEK!
The blocked spider monsters shot webs at the sacred fire shield, but it was useless.
That’s when Zeke spread his hand toward the sacred fire shield.
“Explode!”
WOOOOOONG!
The sacred fire shield split into dozens of pieces, with the fragments flying in all directions.
KWAKWAKWAKWAKWANG!
The fragments transformed into spears of light and devastated the spider swarm.
KEEEEEEK!
The spiders hit by the light spears scattered with horrific screams.
But that wasn’t the end.
“Die!”
Clonne was waiting for them, charging in with crazed eyes while wielding a mace imbued with Breath of Light and Punishment of Light.
PUCK!
Clonne’s mace effortlessly shattered the hard armor of the spider monsters.
The other companions with sacred fire power also hunted the spider monsters calmly.
Having hunted every monster in Troy under the pretext of training, after some time they were able to skillfully handle the spider monsters.
“Die, die!”
Clonne’s crazed screams shook the beach.
The Giant Spiders, predators of this island, unconsciously trembled at that madness.
* * *
Having entered deep into the forest, Zeke quickly moved around to grasp the overall scale and terrain features of the island.
While doing so, Zeke discovered a cave in the forest.
‘That cave might work well as a base.’
Zeke carefully approached the cave to check if it would be safe to use.
That’s when it happened.
KEURURURURU!
He detected signs of a monster from inside.
‘Another spider?’
What appeared before Zeke as he prepared to use Sacred Fire wasn’t a Giant Spider but a different monster.
KUNG! KUNG! KUNG!
A powerful monster with a massive body, strong jaw, and sturdy tail.
“Huh? That’s a Shark Dragon!”
Though much larger than the ones Don Juan raised on his farm, it definitely had the appearance of a Shark Dragon.
KEURURURURU!
Shark Dragons were extremely aggressive and hostile monsters.
But surprisingly, the one that discovered Zeke showed signs of fear.
“Since it’s a dragon-type monster, is it sensing dragon energy from me?”
Zeke approached the Shark Dragon to confirm his theory.
[You have induced fear in a dragon-type monster.]
[Unique authority Dragon-kind Domination activates.]
[Do you wish to subjugate the target?]
Since Zeke didn’t feel the need to make it a summon, he used the skill ‘Taming’ instead of subjugating it.
KRURURURU.
When he used Taming, the Shark Dragon approached Zeke and rubbed its cheek against him.
“To think I could tame a Shark Dragon. Don Juan would’ve been sick with envy if he saw this.”
Zeke chuckled and entered the cave with the tamed Shark Dragon.
The cave was wider than expected and seemed to be a Shark Dragon habitat.
The one Zeke tamed must have been the leader of the pack, as the other Shark Dragons also showed submissive attitudes toward Zeke.
“Good, other monsters won’t come here.”
Zeke decided to make this his base camp. After quickly setting up a campsite in one corner of the cave, he summoned Richmond.
TSUTSUTSUTSU!
Richmond popped out from Zeke’s shadow.
“Gasp!”
Surprised by the sudden summoning, Richmond looked around in confusion.
“M-Master! Where is this?”
“An island in the South Sea.”
“S-South Sea island… Have you been here for months?”
“No, that’s not it. The past events are complicated to explain so I’ll tell you later, but for now, release your minions and clean up the surroundings since we’re making this our base camp.”
“Ah, understood. But are those really Shark Dragons?”
“Yes, they are.”
Richmond’s eyes sparkled as he looked at the Shark Dragons, and soon he muttered softly.
“The scale color and tail shape seem a bit different from regular Shark Dragons. Maybe a different species from the Southern Continent? I should examine and research…”
“Want to taste purification after so long?”
“EEK, no sir!”
Richmond finally came to his senses and quickly summoned skeletons to set up the campsite and inspect the surroundings of the cave.
While waiting for the campsite to be set up, Zeke took out items obtained from the tower from his inventory and handed them to Richmond.
“W-What are these, Master?”
“Things I obtained recently. They’re from Royal Vampire and Balrog, so research them.”
“What? Royal Vampire and Balrog?”
Zeke kept bringing things that were impossible to obtain otherwise.
As Richmond was examining the items Zeke brought with sparkling eyes.
“HUH?”
Sensing that one of the skeletons had sent a signal, he called out to Zeke.
“Master, seems there’s something deep inside the cave.”
Zeke took Richmond and went toward the skeleton that had sent the signal.
Going deeper, they found the cave split into several paths.
Zeke discovered the signaling skeleton quite far from where the Shark Dragons were.
Before approaching further, Zeke sensed something ahead with his warrior’s intuition.
‘This breathing is human. More than five people, two of them severely injured.’
Zeke left Richmond and the skeleton behind, entering alone.
As he went deeper, the smell of blood grew stronger and the sound of rough breathing became louder.
Using his stealth skill, Zeke slowly approached while concealing his presence, blending with the darkness.
He held Anexi’s dagger in his hand.
After getting close, Zeke confirmed the presence of people inside the cave.
‘These people?’
Surprisingly, those hiding in the cave were members of the White Silver Knights led by Kali.
Zeke dropped his stealth and approached them, revealing himself.
The knights were startled by Zeke’s sudden appearance.
“S-Sir Zeke Draker?”
The knight who appeared to be in the best condition among them recognized Zeke and got up in surprise.
Zeke looked at that knight and asked.
“Where is Lady Kali?”
The knight shook his head at Zeke’s question.
“We don’t know the Commander’s location either. Our ship was wrecked in the whirlpool and everyone was scattered. We barely made it to the shore but suddenly encountered monsters and fled here.”
“How long have you been here?”
“Almost over a week.”
Looking at the knights’ condition, they seemed in poor shape, likely unable to eat or drink properly.
Zeke first took out water from his inventory and handed it to the knights. Then he examined the condition of the wounded knights.
Having been attacked by spiders, their wounds were poisoned and turned dark blue, with parts becoming necrotic and flesh rotting.
Zeke took out antidote and potion from his inventory.
“This will hurt a bit.”
He poured both antidote and potion on the wounded areas.
CHIIIIIK
“UNGH!”
Bubbles frothed up from the wounds.
He poured antidote and potion on the other injured person’s wounds as well, but given the severity of their injuries and their weakened state, it was impossible to heal the necrotic areas completely.
‘It wouldn’t be good to take them to the campsite with skeletons and monsters around, better move them to the ship.’
Zeke said to the knight.
“There will be limits to treatment here, so it would be better to move to the ship.”
Even in their weakened state, the White Silver Knights were elite knights who had achieved top ranks among the Draker knights to join.
Agreeing with Zeke’s suggestion, they carried their injured companions out of the cave despite their poor condition.
Zeke headed toward the shore where the ship was anchored with the White Silver Knights. Fortunately, they didn’t encounter any monsters along the way and could reach the shore easily.
And when they arrived at the shore, an unbelievable sight was unfolding there.
