The Extra Strategist’s Royal Road Chapter 57 Part 2

The Extra Strategist’s Royal Road Chapter 57 – Part 2

Burek was a city located in the northwest, situated in the border area with Crossing.

Our Calliper was planning to organize troops in Burek and move to the front lines.

As it was a major clash between 420,000 Western Allied forces and 400,000 Central and Eastern Allied forces, the battlefield was extremely wide.

There were 8 major fronts. Our Calliper was decided to be in charge of one of them, the Galarn Mountains.

“Third son of Baron Elaine. I am Ferge Elaine. I command 500 regular troops, and I’ve brought an additional 500 private soldiers from the territory.”

In response to Brother Ferge’s words, the military officer in charge of the gate showed an indifferent expression.

“500? Ha, I see. Receive your processing and organization at the integration barracks. No, with this number, you probably don’t need to go to the integration barracks.”

“…Understood. Then I’ll go directly to the formation barracks.”

“Hurry inside. It seems there’s a big guest coming behind you.”

He was looking behind us.

A large force forming a sea of people.

The joint forces of 20,000 from Duke Saleon’s and Marquis Millias’s houses had arrived.

A large army 40 times the size of our private soldiers.

At the forefront, Casper was standing proudly, wearing shiny gray armor.

“This isn’t even funny. Let’s go, Ars.”

“Yes, brother.”

***

We went to the formation barracks to process.

If we had a large number of troops it might have been different, but since that wasn’t the case, it was decided to simply merge with Brother Ferge’s unit, and the formation was finished in the blink of an eye.

Thanks to this, it seemed we could get some personal preparation time, but whether it was because time was delayed in making personal uniforms, soon after, all military formations were completed.

An order came to attend the general military council meeting.

At the military conference hall located in Burek, all of Dunan’s close associates were gathered.

General Dunan was sitting at the head seat, and in front of him, his aides and soldiers were densely seated according to their ranks.

As for me, I was squeezed into a corner with Brother Ferge.

We were so far in the corner that we could barely hear the voices, so we had to concentrate fully to listen to Dunan’s words.

The content was a briefing about the Galarn front where we were heading.

“The army we will be facing is the forces of the Tunkai Kingdom. Their number is 70,000. It’s about the same as our forces.”

Since our Calliper forces are also 70,000, the outcome of the battle could be said to depend on the strategy.

“The higher-ups have judged that the possibility of a full-scale war is low, but we on the field shouldn’t think that way. March with the mindset that a battle could occur at any moment.”

─Yes, General!

After that, a briefing on the local terrain followed.

The Galarn front took the form of gentle mountainous terrain.

The height of the mountains was not high, but the terrain was quite wide and trees were growing densely.

“I will provide each officer with a terrain map of the Galarn Mountains. Make sure to familiarize yourself with it before arriving at the site. There are strategic points marked by mountain specialist officers throughout the map, so it will be convenient to focus on remembering those parts.”

This was also the reason why the Bülang Alliance entrusted the Galarn front to Calliper.

The Calliper Kingdom, with many mountainous areas within the kingdom, traditionally had weak cavalry but strong infantry. Mountain combat was their specialty among specialties.

“On the other hand, the Tunkai Kingdom is traditionally a kingdom with strong cavalry. The opponent has entered a death trap.”

This seemingly mismatched confrontation. I felt an inexplicable uneasiness.

‘General Dunan’s words are right. But…’

There’s no law saying you can’t use cavalry in mountainous areas.

Although this Galarn mountain range had many trees, the terrain itself was gentle, so skilled riders could sufficiently operate on horseback.

‘Well, I’m sure they’ve taken that into account too.’

At that moment. Casper raises his hand and speaks.

Unlike me, he was sitting quite close to the head seat.

“General. Has the identity of the enemy commander been determined?”

“Not yet. Intelligence should come in soon.”

It was then. An officer enters the conference hall busily.

It was the gatekeeper who had embarrassed Brother Ferge.

He rushed over and whispered something to Dunan. Hearing the content, Dunan frowned.

“What? Is that true?”

“Yes. I know you’re in a meeting, but he wanted to convey the message as soon as possible…”

“Tch, we can’t refuse the king’s request. Tell him to come in.”

“Yes, sir!”

The king’s request. At these words, everyone tilted their heads in confusion. The king of Calliper was currently in the capital.

“Hmm, hmm. You’re all working hard, I see.”

An old man reveals himself, saying this.

Some who recognized his identity gaped in astonishment.

“Ah, the King of Crossing…!?”

“Why is he here!”

The conference hall buzzed with murmurs.

Dunan was about to stand up and offer a formal greeting, but King Parain held up his palm to stop him.

“I don’t intend to interfere, so please be at ease.”

This area was close to the border with Crossing.

Crossing was also organizing troops in a nearby area, and King Parain had come down to encourage his soldiers.

“Hmph, as expected, Calliper’s military is impressively disciplined. Well, not that I’m envious at all.”

It was Juras.

He was assisting Parain with a sly look on his face, and as soon as he found me, he flashed a chilling smile.

Brother Ferge, who was right next to me, shuddered, seemingly overwhelmed by this snake-like gaze.

“Your Majesty. What is the urgent message you wish to convey?” General Dunan asked.

“Ah, our intelligence network has detected the commander of the Tunkai army. It seems the Calliper side doesn’t know yet, so I came personally to inform you.”

“You could have used a messenger…”

“Hahaha! I also wanted to see your faces while I was at it.”

“Sigh, very well. Let’s blame our intelligence network for being a step behind. Please, tell us.”

“I like you, you’re straightforward.”

Juras stepped forward in place of King Parain and began to relay the intelligence. “Klaus Forkner. He has appeared on the battlefield. Given his unique tendencies, he’s likely to be the only Tunkai general out there.”

“…!”

The conference hall became noisy once again.

“That demon is coming to the battlefield…?”

“It can’t be…”

The demon Klaus. He was Tunkai’s special operations general, infamous for his notoriety.

He was a thief of Western immigrant origin, known as the King of Thieves before being scouted by the Tunkai Kingdom.

True to his background as a thief, his methods of waging war were utterly vicious.

How vicious? Even after achieving victory, he was internally disciplined for damaging the nation’s dignity and had to undergo indefinite probation.

And now, that very person had broken his indefinite probation to appear on this battlefield.

‘Klaus Forkner. I’ve never heard of him before.’

This was all information that wasn’t in the main story.

The battle between Calliper and Tunkai, and even Klaus Forkner himself, were characters that didn’t appear in the game.

“General Dunan. Tunkai has dispatched Klaus to this battlefield, even going so far as to lift his probation. I’m sure you can guess the reason?”

“…You mean that?”

“Yes. It means the possibility of a full-scale war has increased. So I think it’s about time for the Calliper military to consider that aspect as well.”

“What aspect are you referring to?”

“I hate to say this, Dunan, but your upright nature doesn’t match well with Klaus. You’ll eventually lose patience with Klaus’s provocations and make a mistake. On the other hand… Wade is different. He would calmly discard what needs to be discarded, take what needs to be taken, and in turn, tighten the noose around Klaus’s neck. So, hand over the command to Wade. That’s the best course of action for the Calliper army.”

As expected, this guy is out of his mind. Coming to someone else’s military conference and saying such things.

Dunan, feeling insulted, shut Juras up without a word.

“We appreciate the valuable information, but any further interference is unnecessary! Your Majesty, would you kindly take that fellow and withdraw now?”

“Hmm, I understand. I’ve confirmed what I wanted to confirm as well. We’ll take our leave now.”

As Parain’s group left.

The ripples they caused were not small.

Due to Juras’s last remark, meaningful gazes were now directed at Casper, who was impersonating Wade.

“Ugh…” Casper turned pale and didn’t know what to do.

Even though he had been impersonating recklessly, now that the King of Crossing and his chancellor had mentioned Wade, he seemed to be feeling stomach pains from anxiety.

Oh I see what Juras and Parain’s plan is. Expose Caspar while also forcing Ars into the spotlight before they tell him what he wants to know.
