I Killed the Demon King. It Was a Mistake. Chapter 57

I killed the Demon King. It was a mistake.

Chapter 57

It was truly a stroke of luck that Caesar blocked the creature’s muzzle with Thunder.

The creature’s flash of light couldn’t penetrate Thunder, made of solid terra, but Caesar flew through the air as if in a traffic accident as the price for blocking its attack.

Caesar nearly lost consciousness for a moment, but barely held onto his senses and landed in nearby bushes.

Caesar first caught his breath.

“Huff… Huff…”

How long has it been since he looked this exhausted?

Caesar hid deeper in the forest and looked at the creature.

In its right hand was a purple muzzle, three horns on its head, and bizarre machines attached to its arms and legs like blood vessels.

‘That appearance looks familiar.’

It couldn’t help but be familiar.

This is the demonic version of Viscount Duken that appears in the final boss battle of Homigraph’s sub-quest.

Of course, the appearance is quite different, but having demonic artifacts attached all over the body is exactly the same.

Viscount Duken shed a single purple tear.

“I want to live.”

Whoosh!

The creature disappeared.

Did it run away?

No.

It’s behind Caesar.

Caesar instinctively ducked.

Swish!

A purple flash of light grazed horizontally at Caesar’s waist height.

The ground it met exploded, creating a cloud of dust.

Caesar quickly used Riding the Wind to move to where Thunder had fallen and picked it up.

Flash!

A sharp blade of light approaching Caesar’s side.

Caesar used Noisy Silence.

Kwaaang!

As the air burst out, the dust that had filled Caesar’s surroundings cleared in an instant.

Caesar looked at Viscount Duken.

His right hand had already turned into a sharp blade.

“I want to live.”

The creature’s sword moves.

A speed that Wind Reading could never follow.

Caesar sharpened all his senses and received the creature’s chaotic attacks with Noisy Silence.

Swish!

The wind flowing from Caesar’s Noisy Silence slashed the creature’s body.

But it wasn’t an effective hit.

Even when sharp wind grazed the creature’s eyes, it recovered instantly, and its skin only got scratched.

It was a meaningless war of attrition.

‘Damn, if only I had eaten the White Tiger’s Heart.’

Professor Smir said it takes quite a while for the potion to be made, so Caesar only consumed the potion made from the honey of the Big-Horned Bee.

Thanks to that, the amount of aura increased greatly, but due to the long-lasting effect of Berserk’s Double Stack, Caesar’s aura was running out.

A shield wrapped around the creature’s left hand.

It looked like wearing a thick glove.

Whoom!

With that hand, the creature grabbed Caesar’s axe blade.

Crack!

As the shield shattered, it dug into the creature’s left hand, but the axe got stuck on the hard bone and couldn’t be pulled out.

Taking advantage of this gap, the blade aimed for Caesar’s heart.

Caesar avoided the incoming blade with minimal margin and then increased the size of Thunder.

It’s now or never.

“Uriaaaa!”

Berserk Triple Stack.

Caesar’s merciless Thunder roared and cut off the creature’s left arm.

The smell of burning flesh terribly tormented Caesar’s nose.

The creature swung its blade, unperturbed.

‘What a monster.’

Although Caesar had grown enough to handle Berserk’s Triple Stack now, it’s impossible to use it for a long time.

10 seconds.

He had to settle this within 10 seconds no matter what.

Caesar pulled out the axe stuck in the creature’s left arm and stepped back.

The creature persistently chased after him again.

The reason for widening the distance was for a technique not yet perfected.

It was to use the 6th form of Path of the Wind, ‘Steel Wind’.

Thunder became smaller again.

Caesar threw the shrunken Thunder.

Strangely, Thunder didn’t fly far but circled around Caesar and then flew towards the creature’s side.

At the same time, Caesar used psychometry.

He could feel in which direction and at what timing the creature would deflect Thunder.

The direction the creature swings its blade is from the lower left diagonal to up.

Clang!

As the creature’s blade deflected Thunder, Caesar swung his axe.

It was Wild Wind.

Caesar’s Wild Wind tried to bite into the creature’s side.

However, it blocked Caesar’s axe with its left hand that had already regenerated.

Clang!

Caesar’s axe dug into the shield activated on the left hand.

And the wind flowing from the roughly dug-in axe changed the path of Thunder flying far away.

Thunder, like a falcon hunting a rabbit, struck down on the creature’s spine in one breath.

“Kuaaaaaah!”

The lightning rising from Thunder made a mess of the creature’s nervous system.

The core of Steel Wind is to constantly create wind with Caesar’s left side to change the path of the circling Thunder in the desired direction.

It’s such a difficult technique that consumes a lot of aura that he had never succeeded even once until now.

But he thought it was time to take a gamble now, and Caesar’s gamble hit the mark perfectly.

The creature stiffened and shuddered.

Caesar didn’t miss that timing.

“Uriaaaaaaa!”

Berserk Quadruple Stack.

As Caesar’s aura was scraped to the bottom, even pain blocking became meaningless.

His two eyes, swollen to the limit, were on the verge of bursting, and all the joints and bones in his body were on the verge of breaking due to the excessively pressing muscles.

But Caesar’s time of relentless training wasn’t in vain.

Although his consciousness had already half-flown away, a sharp streak of wind wrapped around Caesar’s axe.

It’s Single Wind.

“I don’t want to die.”

Viscount Duken blocked Caesar’s axe with his blade with amazing reaction speed.

Snap!

Viscount Duken’s blade was cut off like a reed, quietly grazing his neck as it passed.

“Ah.”

Viscount Duken’s head flew into the air.

Caesar used his last bit of strength to grab the flying head and slam it into the ground.

The creature’s head was crushed into a pulp, then melted away like its collapsed body.

Caesar released Berserk.

Whoosh.

Like a steam engine filled with water, his body returns to its original state with tremendous steam.

“I won!”

There’s not a single place that doesn’t hurt to the point of insanity.

The only difference from before is that he didn’t faint.

That’s how much Caesar has grown.

“Indeed, impressive.”

Caesar gripped his axe again at the presence he felt behind him.

But two black tentacles flew in and knocked away both axes.

Caesar turned around.

There was a demon with bandages wrapped around its face and…

Joseph, helplessly hanging from the tentacles coming out of the demon’s hand.

“That child was quite precious to me.”

“Grrrk!”

As the tentacle around his neck tightened even more, Joseph foamed at the mouth.

Caesar looked at Joseph.

Joseph moves his mouth.

Run away.

With those final words, Joseph lost consciousness.

Caesar glared at the creature, taking a deep breath.

“Normally, I’d tear you apart right now and it wouldn’t be enough, but I have a proposal for a capable person like you. How about becoming a new human?”

New human.

The term the demon alliance ‘Niflheim’ uses to call themselves.

Hearing about the bandages covering the creature’s face, the tentacles, and the mention of new humans, Caesar was reminded of one particular being.

“Right. I finally know who you are.”

“Oh, you know me?”

“I do. Viscount Andromalius.”

Caesar staggered to his feet.

He had no weapons in either hand, his aura was depleted, and he had no strength.

There was no chance of winning.

However, instead of begging for his life, Caesar’s mouth spouted words to provoke the creature.

“Aren’t you the guy who became a demon because of syphilis?”

“…!”

“So why did you have sex with the test subject you killed, you dirty necrophiliac bastard?”

“You son of a bitch!”

The creature lashes out with its tentacles.

There was no strength left to avoid it.

Honestly, it’s incomprehensible how he’s even standing.

But Caesar’s hand moved nimbly and caught the creature’s tentacle.

Andromalius tried to pull back the tentacle.

But strangely, it wouldn’t move.

“How did you…”

Surely, after dealing with Viscount Duken and the Eternal Predator, both his physical strength and aura should be depleted.

So how can he withstand Andromalius’s strength?

The answer came sooner than expected.

Creak. Crack.

Caesar’s body twisted strangely and transformed into a giant.

His red hair and pupils turned black, and his skin turned bronze.

Andromalius was shocked at Caesar’s transformation happening in real-time.

“Do… doppelganger.”

“No.”

Rough steam spews from his mouth.

“Barre.”

As Caesar transformed into Barre, flesh regrew on his wounded side, aura gushed out like a spring, and his depleted stamina moved vigorously like a train filled with coal.

How is this possible, you ask?

How should I know?

It just works because it works.

Caesar, no, Barre has only been a doppelganger for about 4 years now.

It’s an age where there’s more unknown than known.

“…With such power, why did you hide it until now?”

“Why? Feeling upset because you thought I was a weakling but turns out I’m fucking strong?”

Barre cracked his neck.

“Don’t try to live life the easy way. You idiot.”

“You bastard… huh?”

Barre pulled on the tentacle he was holding.

Andromalius was dragged in without resistance.

Barre delivered an elbow to the creature’s face.

Thwack!

Andromalius’s head burst like a balloon.

But Barre didn’t let his guard down.

This guy isn’t dead.

Just as Barre was about to stomp on the creature’s heart, its body suddenly shed its outer skin, leaving only the husk as the core slipped out.

The headless body staggers to its feet.

Then tentacles sprout from the neck, coiling together to form a new head.

“What an annoying ability.”

When they have about 4 horns, creatures that don’t die even when their heads disappear start to show up.

Of course, they don’t come back to life without any cost.

Barre looked at the skin in his hand.

It’s not ordinary human skin, but demon skin.

The creature has the ability to shed its outer skin and be reborn anew when it dies, like a crab molting.

It’s an ability that doesn’t make sense logically, but there are more incomprehensible things in the world than comprehensible ones.

Demons are a prime example, and so is Barre.

Creak.

Andromalius regenerated and realigned his oddly twisted jaw.

After taking one hit, he gets a feel for it.

…Let’s run away.’

The most crucial ability that allowed Andromalius to survive against the Holy Knights during his 15 years as a demon was his judgment to boldly escape without clinging to pride when things seemed impossible.

Whatever form it took, he could endure any humiliation as long as he could escape.

Bang!

Andromalius slammed the ground, creating a cloud of dust.

Then he made his body long and thin like a worm and burrowed into the ground.

This was another of Andromalius’s abilities.

The ability to change his body into any desired form.

No matter how powerful Barre might be, he wouldn’t be able to do anything about Andromalius who had burrowed into the ground.

But that was Andromalius’s misconception.

“Uriaaaaaaa!”

Despite having dug deep into the ground, Andromalius’s skin could hear Barre’s thunderous roar.

And Andromalius felt as if his entire body was being compressed by a press machine.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

With a sound that shook heaven and earth, someone was frantically digging and striking the ground.

It was Barre.

Barre dug into the ground where Andromalius was hiding like a mole, and struck down like a giant shaking heaven and earth.

The ground was haphazardly torn up as if it had suffered a massive wound, and finally, Caesar grabbed Andromalius’s long, worm-like body from the middle of the ground.

Andromalius’s body wriggled like a large snake caught in hand.

“Got you.”

Barre pulled Andromalius’s body entirely.

It was pulled out of the ground like a parasite dug into flesh.

“Aaaaargh!”

As Andromalius’s waist shattered and he faced death once again, he shed his outer skin and returned to his original state.

Andromalius looked at Barre while swallowing his saliva.

“Don’t feel like running away anymore? Bug?”

“…Why on earth would a doppelganger side with humans? Aren’t humans the enemy of the demon race? You even killed the Demon Lord.”

“You’re spouting nonsense to try and survive somehow. You tried to kill me. So I’m going to kill you. Isn’t that a simple relationship we have?”

“It was a misunderstanding. If I had known you were a doppelganger, I wouldn’t have fought.”

“What nonsense. It’s not that you don’t want to fight because I’m a doppelganger, it’s because you’re weaker than me. Speak properly.”

Andromalius bit his lip.

To think Caesar was a doppelganger.

No, to think Barre was Caesar.

How could such an absurd thing be possible in this world?

Barre was the companion of the hero Yan.

A war machine that slaughtered demons on the frontlines, standing shoulder to shoulder with Yan.

It’s said that no one could match his pure strength, and his skin and hard skeleton were known to be as tough as ‘For Honor’, the hardest alloy in the world.

Could Andromalius face such a monster?

‘I have to do something somehow.’

Andromalius had experimented on many living beings over the long years.

He had experimented on all living things, from animals to humans, monsters, and even demons.

The conclusion drawn from this was that there is no perfect creature in everything.

There must be a weakness somewhere, and it’s almost always mental attacks or magic.

Andromalius stretched out his fingertips.

Then, a pitch-black wand was pulled out from his index finger.

“Are you ready to fight?”

Andromalius waved the wand.

Then, the magic abundant in the surroundings recombined according to Andromalius’s will and transformed into a toxic gas that would kill with one breath.

“Uriaaaaaaa!”

Barre didn’t start with a Single Stack of Berserk like Caesar did.

Barre immediately cast a Quadruple Stack of Berserk.

Barre blew away all the toxic gas with just a fierce shout and flew towards Andromalius.

Andromalius calmly waved his wand like a maestro.

Then Barre’s body suddenly soared into the sky.

“There’s no way I can lose here!”

Why are magicians great?

Magicians can remove, create, or change the laws of the world.

They can remove the gravity surrounding Barre, turn oxygen into toxic gas, or flip heaven and earth.

The reason all this is possible is because of the great property of magic that can intervene in all things in the world.

If one can properly understand and use the power of this magic, even becoming a god is possible.

“I became a demon of my own will to help enlighten the foolish humans and be reborn as a great new human race.”

Andromalius waved his wand again.

Then all the air around Barre, who was floating in the sky, disappeared, creating a vacuum.

“I’m saying I was born with the fate of being a trumpeter to open a new era!”

Andromalius sweated sticky purple sweat.

There was not a single way for him to escape this state.

Even if he waved his hand, there was no wind to affect, and even if he shouted, it wouldn’t be heard.

Unless he could use gravity magic, this place would become his eternal prison.

At that moment, a shooting star approached through the fierce wind from far away.

No, that’s not a shooting star.

Whoosh Whoosh Whoosh Whoosh.

A giant axe pierced through Andromalius’s vacuum barrier and stuck to Barre’s hand.

Barre’s eternal companion and…

A weapon symbolizing the power that makes the impossible possible.

It was Wilderness.

Barre threw Wilderness towards Andromalius.

Andromalius didn’t even know that Barre had thrown Wilderness.

In the blink of an eye, Wilderness had disappeared from Barre’s hand and was deeply embedded in the ground after cleaving Andromalius’s right shoulder.

“Huh?”

Along the trajectory where Wilderness had flown, the air was momentarily pushed away and then returned.

Andromalius fluttered like a leaf caught in a typhoon from the aftershock.
