Chapter 155
WOOOONG!
Dragon’s Sense automatically activated while holding the chalice.
In an instant, fragments of the ark’s past memories flooded into Zeke’s mind like waves.
“KUGH!”
As the tremendous memories flashed by in an instant, Zeke felt like his head was about to explode.
[Sturdy Mental Defense activates.]
Thanks to the skill, Zeke was barely able to regain his consciousness bit by bit.
When he came to his senses, Zeke was already swimming through a vast sea of memories in his soul state.
‘Is this Dragon’s Sense in its mastered state?’
He could examine the past memories much more freely than when he used it before.
Enormous fragments of memories flashed by quickly.
CHWARARARAK!
At that moment, one of the memory fragments flew toward Zeke.
‘What is this?’
In that instant, the sea of memories was dyed completely in light with a flash.
* * *
When Zeke opened his eyes, a completely different scene was spread out before him.
‘Where is this…?’
It was in a dense forest, not the ark.
Zeke recalled when he became Terakan Draker through past memories in the Bird Tribe temple.
‘Is this situation similar to that time?’
Zeke examined his surroundings and his body.
He was running urgently through the forest dressed like a mercenary.
It seemed he was being chased by someone.
“HUU! HUU!”
Then someone appeared from behind.
“Siegfried! Stop! There’s nowhere left to run!”
Knights wearing armor engraved with elaborate patterns and luxurious cloaks were chasing Siegfried while floating above the ground like mages, gliding smoothly.
Siegfried drew the sword on his back and created an Aura Blade, swinging it toward the knights.
KWAKWAKWANG!
The sword strikes flew toward the knights.
WOOOONG!
Translucent hemispheres generated around the knights’ bodies, blocking all of Siegfried’s sword strikes.
They freely glided through the air and soon surrounded Siegfried.
“You think you can face us with moldy techniques like Aura?”
The knights who were floating in the air planted their feet on the ground.
When they waved their hands, swords appeared from empty space.
Swords decorated as elaborately as their armor.
Siegfried knew well how many spells were cast on those swords.
He smiled bitterly and said.
“As expected of the Knights of Jiemens. Everything splashed with money.”
At Siegfried’s words, the knights’ expressions twisted. As if their anger was erupting, blue lightning burst forth from their swords.
PAJIJIIJK!
The power of the lightning swords that the Jiemens Magic Knights boasted was beyond imagination.
Siegfried grinned while holding his old arming sword and looking at the Jiemens knights.
“I can see your equipment is good, but you don’t know how to handle those good swords.”
As if provoked by Siegfried’s taunt, the knights charged in with their lightning swords.
PAJIJIIJK!
Powerful lightning poured toward Siegfried.
In that instant, the Aura Blade from Siegfried’s sword shot up over 3 meters.
WOOOONG!
The Aura Blade tore through the pouring lightning.
At the same time, Siegfried took a basic sword stance.
True Dragon Sword Technique
4th Form Moon Slash
‘True Dragon Sword Technique?’
Zeke, who was peering into Siegfried’s consciousness, was surprised to see the swordsmanship he was displaying.
It was the original sword drawing technique from the True Dragon Sword Technique, not the common dragon slaying technique .
Siegfried swung his sword widely and cut down all the surrounding knights at once.
CHWAAAK!
“KUHEOK!”
Siegfried’s Aura Blade cut through not only the blue flame swords but also the magic armor of the Jiemens Knights in one strike.
One knight who was grazed by his attack crawled away while muttering.
“Im-impossible… how could mere Aura have such power…”
Siegfried slowly approached and stabbed the knight’s neck.
“KUGH!”
The Jiemens knight died with a short groan.
Siegfried searched the dead knights’ possessions and gathered valuable items that could be sold.
Then someone appeared from the other side of the forest.
“Sigfried.”
Siegfried raised his head to look at the woman who called him.
Zeke, who was in his consciousness, was shocked.
‘Mother?’
A woman who looked very similar to Laura Agamemnon from the photos walked out from inside the forest.
She too seemed to have been in an intense battle, with blood on her face and clothes.
Siegfried’s mouth opened.
“Claudia.”
Zeke realized who that woman was.
Claudia Lubern.
She was the Light Mage who became the founder of the Lubern dynasty.
Soon after, Siegfried and Claudia who got up went deeper into the forest to avoid other pursuers.
Finding a cave, Siegfried settled inside and dug the ground to make a fire.
Then he took out dried jerky from his clothes and chewed on it.
Looking at Siegfried roughly tearing at the jerky, Claudia said.
“Sigfried, more pursuers are catching up.”
At those words, Siegfried snorted and replied.
“I’m not scared of those bastards at all.”
“You should escape alone at least. There’s no need for you to die needlessly too.”
Then Siegfried shook his head and said while looking at Claudia.
“You owe me your life once. I can’t leave until I collect on that.”
“How foolish! Are you going to throw away your life to collect the debt?”
He grinned while finishing the rest of his jerky.
Claudia sighed looking at Siegfried, then contemplated something. After a moment, she took something out from her clothes.
A plain wooden cup.
It was the Holy Grail.
Siegfried looked at the Holy Grail and smiled saying,
“I thought it would be something amazing since they said it was a holy relic made by the Fairy King. It looks really shabby.”
The seven kingdoms started a war over this one wooden cup. It was because of rumors that the Holy Grail grants immortality.
Siegfried asked Claudia.
“But can this crude-looking cup really give immortal power?”
To that question, Claudia shook her head.
“The Holy Grail has the ability to draw out human potential. It shows completely different effects depending on what potential that human has. The problem is… you could die if you can’t properly handle its power.”
Hearing those words, Siegfried shook his head.
“Sheesh, but why are the kings so desperate to get this? Let alone immortality, they might die.”
At Siegfried’s words, Claudia’s gaze turned fierce.
“It’s always been like that, humans. Always ruined everything because of that greed. That’s why I’m trying to get rid of this. So humans can’t misuse it. Only then will fate change.”
Claudia’s voice was full of disillusionment and contempt for humans.
Siegfried was used to seeing Claudia like this, as it wasn’t the first or second time.
That’s when it happened.
“Damn, it’s the pursuers.”
Siegfried held his sword toward the cave entrance and awakened his Aura to examine the surroundings.
He sensed over dozens of presences around the cave.
Siegfried clenched his molars.
“Looks like knights from all seven kingdoms have gathered.”
Claudia put the Holy Grail in her clothes and got up.
“We need to escape from here right now.”
Siegfried nodded.
“Yeah, I’ll hold them off while you hurry away. Once you reach the Ice Mountains, they won’t be able to follow anymore.”
Claudia was shocked at Siegfried’s words.
“What are you saying! You want me to go alone?”
“Would you rather we both die side by side?”
Looking at Siegfried spinning his sword, Claudia bit her lip hard.
She said to Siegfried.
“Why are you going this far? You said you’d collect on the life debt, but throwing away your life doesn’t make sense!”
At her cry, Siegfried looked at Claudia and said.
“You said it yourself. Humans ruin everything because of greed.”
Siegfried looked at her with serious eyes.
“I’m just another human who can’t help it.”
“What does that mean?”
Claudia looked at Siegfried as if she couldn’t understand.
He grinned at Claudia. Then he rushed out of the cave with his sword.
WOOOONG!
He raised his Aura Blade and swung his sword toward the presences hiding in front of the cave.
“KUHEOK!”
Siegfried’s Aura Blade cut right through thick armor and magic weapons.
When Siegfried appeared, the hidden knights revealed themselves.
A knight from Thebea, the newest of the seven kingdoms, stepped forward and shouted at Siegfried.
“Criminal Siegfried Draker who stole the holy relic, hear this! Hand over the holy relic immediately and end yourself honorably! Then your house, the Drakers, may survive!”
Siegfried smirked at those words.
“Haven’t heard that in a while. Draker, huh? Guess you haven’t heard how those bastards beat me to a bloody pulp when I was young and threw me in the corpse incinerator?”
The Thebean knight who had called for his suicide looked bewildered at Siegfried’s crude words.
That’s when Siegfried took off his gloves.
PAJIJIIJK!
When Siegfried removed his gloves, sparks flew from the knights’ armor and swords around him.
“Wh-what is this!”
The knights panicked as their enchanted equipment showed strange reactions.
Siegfried didn’t miss this opening.
“Come on, you bastards!”
* * *
“UGH!”
Dozens of dead knights lay fallen around where Siegfried stood.
“HUU!”
But Siegfried wasn’t unscathed either, with countless arrows stuck in his back.
He pulled out a spear lodged in his side.
Blood dripped down.
Staggering, Siegfried walked toward the last knight still standing.
Sensing madness from Siegfried, the knight trembled.
“D-don’t come! Don’t come!”
Siegfried threw himself at that knight.
Their bodies tangled as they fell onto the pile of corpses.
Siegfried grabbed whatever weapon he could and stabbed the knight’s neck.
“KUHEOK!”
Soon that knight too stopped breathing like the others sprawled around.
“Damn…”
Siegfried lay on the pile of corpses, panting.
Though he had the nickname ‘Immortal’, even he would die after being cut and stabbed this much.
With trembling hands, Siegfried took out a tobacco leaf from his clothes.
He tried to put it in his mouth, but his lips had no strength left and he dropped it in a pool of blood.
“Damn it… the fortune teller said I’d die because of a woman, and this is how it ends up.”
Siegfried recalled when he first met Claudia Lubern.
Like a noble lady who had just stepped out into the world, she was ignorant yet stubborn and willful.
At first, he traveled with her across the continent simply because she was a skilled mage he had saved, but as time passed, he felt his heart changing.
“…I must be crazy. Really.”
Siegfried’s eyes began to slowly close.
That’s when someone approached him.
“…There was… one still alive.”
Siegfried tried hard to move his body.
He needed to kill even one more so the pursuers wouldn’t go after her and she could safely reach the Ice Mountains.
But what entered Siegfried’s sight was none other than Claudia herself.
“Why. Are you. Here?. Go, hurry…”
Claudia looked down at Siegfried with a face about to cry.
She knelt and gripped Siegfried’s clothes tightly.
Then she looked at him with reproachful eyes.
“Humans are… hateful, frivolous, selfish creatures. I really hate them. But Sigfried, why you…”
“That’s… similar to me. I don’t really… like humans either.”
Siegfried slowly raised his hand to try to pat Claudia’s head.
But his strengthless hand dropped limply to the ground.
Claudia hurriedly took out the Holy Grail from her clothes.
She infused power into the Grail.
WOOOONG!
The Grail emitted bright light and soon began filling with water.
Claudia quickly put the Grail to Siegfried’s lips.
“Sigfried! Quickly, drink this quickly!”
But Sigfried couldn’t swallow it. He had no strength left anywhere in his body.
Claudia took the Grail’s water in her mouth and directly transferred it to Sigfried’s mouth.
With Claudia’s help, Siegfried swallowed all the water contained in the Grail. That’s when it happened.
“Kugh!”
Siegfried groaned in pain.
Claudia held him and shouted.
“Sigfried! Don’t reject the Grail’s power, accept it! If you don’t, that power will kill you!”
Having lost too much blood and being at death’s door, he wasn’t in a state to accept the Grail’s power.
“KUHEOK!”
As Siegfried’s veins swelled black, his eyes became bloodshot.
“No, no! Sigfried! You can’t die!”
Claudia fidgeted anxiously before tightly gripping the Sun’s Emblem around her neck.
The seal that bound her power.
Claudia decided to break the taboo to save Siegfried. She couldn’t let him die like this.
TUDUDUK!
She tore off the Sun’s Emblem that sealed herself.
And shouted toward Siegfried.
“Siegfried! Look at me! Listen to me carefully!”
Siegfried’s breath was almost gone.
In that moment, Claudia’s pupils changed.
The eyes of a great being shining with golden light were revealed.
She spoke to Siegfried.
「My name is Bahamut, Ruler of Sunset.」
