Chapter 6: An Aunty’s Love
Song Yulan looked at her with a face full of concern.
“But you’re pregnant now, it’s too exhausting to run a street stall!”
Song Chi smiled.
“Auntie, don’t worry. I’ll pace myself and won’t push too hard.”
Once Song Chi made up her mind about something, it was very hard to change it.
Song Yulan knew her temperament well and didn’t try to persuade her anymore.
“Then have you thought about what you’ll sell?”
“Handmade goods.”
Song Yulan lowered her head, deep in thought.
Song Chi glanced at the time and added,
“Auntie, I should get going now…”
Song Yulan nodded.
“I’ll walk you out.”
As the two of them exited the café and were about to part, Song Chi seemed like she had something more to say.
“Auntie, if you had money, you could get far away from that *****d. You wouldn’t have to be afraid of him finding you again!
Have you thought about going into business with me?”
Song Yulan stammered,
“I can’t… I’m not cut out for business…”
Seeing her aunt’s self-deprecating expression, Song Chi’s heart ached.
“Auntie, you have strengths too. Think about what you’re best at and develop from there. I believe in you—you can do it!”
Song Yulan gave a bitter smile. Li Chengwei always berated her, saying she was only good for housework and totally out of touch with the world.
“Xiao Chi, take this!”
She looked around nervously and hurriedly stuffed something into Song Chi’s hands.
“Auntie, what is this?”
“Xiao Chi, if you want to start a business, you’ll need investment. I don’t have much ability, but I’ve given you everything I can. This is just between us. If your uncle finds out I’ve been secretly saving money, he’ll beat me to death…”
Song Chi opened her hand. It was a stack of money, around two thousand yuan. That amount might not mean much to others, But Song Chi knew—it was all her aunt had saved over many years. She had given it all to her!
Song Chi’s nose stung, and tears began to fall uncontrollably.
Song Yulan pushed her toward the car.
“Xiao Chi, let’s keep in touch later. Hurry and go now, your uncle will be back soon.”
Song Chi didn’t even have time to say anything before being pushed into the car.
Song Yulan pulled out her last ten yuan and handed it to the driver.
“Sir, please take her home.”
Song Chi couldn’t hold back anymore and began sobbing.
“Auntie, I can’t take your money…”
She tried to hand the money back through the car window.
Song Yulan pushed her hand away.
“Xiao Chi, I know your temper, you definitely don’t want to use your husband’s money, and you don’t have any of your own. How are you supposed to start a business? Be good and take this money. Just think of it as my investment in you.”
Suddenly, the two thousand yuan felt unbearably heavy in Song Chi’s hands.
She sobbed harder.
“Auntie, thank you. When I start earning, I’ll pay you back with interest!”
But Song Yulan never intended to ask for repayment. She waved her hand.
“Go now. Keep in touch!”
Song Chi nodded hard.
As the car drove away, tears blurred Song Chi’s vision. Through the rearview mirror, she looked back at her aunt, clear as day.
Though her aunt had little ability, in Song Chi’s eyes, she was as mighty as a mountain.
Suddenly, out of the corner of her eye, she caught a familiar figure. It was Li Chengwei!
At the same time, someone crossed the road, and the car slowly came to a stop.
Inside the car, Song Chi clearly heard his curses.
“That b**** Song Chi, where the hell did she go? President Wang is breathing down my neck for the money! If I don’t pay up soon, I’ll get my hands and feet chopped off! Once I find her, I’ll break her d*** legs!”
Song Chi’s expression turned cold. That pig head Li Chengwei was still trying to come after her! She instantly became alert.
Just then, Li Chengwei saw Song Yulan and started shouting.
“Song Yulan! You must know where Song Chi went, tell me now!”
“I don’t know.”
“Bullsh**! If you don’t tell me the truth, I’ll beat you to death!”
He raised his foot and kicked Song Yulan, knocking her to the ground. Then he rushed forward, grabbed her by the hair, and began beating and kicking her.
“You ugly old hag! Not talking, huh? I’ll beat it out of you today!”
No matter how much it hurt, Song Yulan didn’t scream. She endured the abuse like a walking corpse—her eyes held no pain, no hope.
The commotion quickly drew the attention of onlookers. People whispered and pointed, but no one stepped forward to stop it.
Seeing this, Song Chi told the driver to stop. She jumped out of the car and stormed toward them furiously.
“Li Chengwei, you b*****! Don’t you dare hit my aunt!”
She was just about to step in when… A black van screeched to a halt beside Li Chengwei.
Several burly, intimidating men stepped out quickly. The leader said,
“Li Chengwei, you owe our boss five million. The boss said: Either pay fifty thousand in interest today to show some good faith, or we chop off your hands.”
