“Formally introducing myself, I’m Alf. I’m the leader of Serpent. That person earlier was Mario the Magician. I already introduced Leaf the Archer, right? The request, as Mario said, is to join us as an escort. Usually, Goblins don’t appear in places like this. Something might be happening. So, I’d like someone as skilled as you with a Magic Iron sword to lend us your strength. What do you say?”
“I’m not that skilled, but that’s fine. I can consider it as a fare for riding in the cart, right?”
“No problem. I appreciate it. Now, I’ll introduce you to Ms. Marny. Mario, sorry, but could you handle the collection and disposal of the Goblins that Tenma defeated?”
“Understood.”
Mario walked toward the Goblins that Tenma had defeated.
“Tenma, this way.”
Alf jerked his chin, signaling Tenma to follow him when Tenma went to the back of the cart—
“Ms. Marny. We’ve taken care of the Goblins. Everything’s safe now. Actually, there’s something I’d like to ask.”
Alf called into the cart. An elderly person poked their face out.
“Is it over? Are you all alright?”
They stuck only their face out from the canopy, looked left and right.
“Yes, it’s finished. Now, Ms. Marny, my request is: Could we add this person to our escort? Mario has already confirmed he’s not suspicious.”
Tenma, who was introduced by Alf, didn’t understand what Mario had confirmed, but he said:
“Alf asked me to join the escort in exchange for letting me ride in the cart. I’m Tenma.”
“I’m Marny, who hired Serpent for protection. If Alf said so, it’s fine. But there won’t be any additional payment, Alf.”
“I understand. So, we’re good. Tenma, ride with me on the driver’s platform.”
“Understood.”
Tenma was about to ride in a horse-drawn cart for the first time in his life.
As he went around to the side of the cart, a burnt smell wafted over. He thought ‘What’s that?’, he looked ahead. What Tenma saw was flames rising in front of Leaf and Mario.
“Are they burning the Goblins?”
“Yeah. Wild beasts might come around, or rarely, they might become Undead. It’s just a precaution.”
Alf answered the question Tenma had voiced.
