Chapter 4
“After careful consideration, Hero Reyno still agreed to the Demon King’s invitation and went to the opera house.”
“Although the Demon King before his eyes was indeed utterly evil and nearly the culprit who caused the destruction of the entire Haila Kingdom, the hero could not detect the slightest hostility from her, as if she was still that old acquaintance from his youth.”
“Mission:Before 3 PM, keep the appointment and go to Haila Opera House to meet with the Demon King has been completed.”
“Reward: ‘Elemental Magic Affinity’ can now be claimed!”
Hearing the continuous announcements from the system in his mind, Reyno felt a surge of joy.
The ‘Keen Perception’ he had received earlier showed quite obvious effects on him. As for ‘Basic Sword Technique,’ Reyno hadn’t had a chance to try it yet, but he estimated the effects wouldn’t be too bad either.
As an adventurer, Reyno’s ability in unarmed combat wasn’t bad. But embarrassingly, he wasn’t skilled in using weapons and magic, making it difficult for him to grab enough commissions in the fierce competition of Haila Royal City.
Having just completed a few missions and already having multiple aspects of his abilities improved, the future was definitely promising!
“Reyno!”
Reyno came back to his senses and found that Kleya had already tilted her head, looking at him with those brown eyes. Behind her was the entrance to Haila Opera House.
There was still some time before the opera performance began, and there were only scattered people around the theater, not many at all.
“Are you spacing out?”
Kleya extended one hand and waved it up and down in front of Reyno’s eyes.
Reyno shook his head and replied: ‘Nothing, I slept a bit poorly last night.’
“Ah, then why don’t you go home and rest?”Â
A faint trace of worry appeared on Kleya’s face.
“If I go to rest, who will accompany our young lady to watch the play? You’d be so pitiful all alone and lonely.”
“Who, who said you have to accompany me! I can be quite comfortable watching plays by myself!”
Upon hearing Reyno tease her, Kleya’s cheeks immediately began to puff up slightly, and her small face, whether from the sun or other reasons, showed traces of crimson from within.
“Alright then, I’m leaving.”
Hearing her say this, Reyno turned around to leave.
Anyway, the mission reward had already been settled just now. Leaving now would let him check the commission wall at the adventurer’s guild to relieve some of the economic pressure on him.
“Hey! Are you really leaving?!”
Seeing Reyno actually making a gesture to leave, Kleya immediately grabbed his jacket sleeve.
This sleeve-grabbing action was completely unthinking, her body moving subconsciously. So it was quite forceful, leaving Reyno completely stunned.
When she realized what she had done, she immediately reduced the force in her hand, making it just enough to stop Reyno without tearing his clothes or making him uncomfortable.
“You came all this way! You’re already at the theater entrance! How can you just leave like that!”
Seeing Kleya like this, Reyno helplessly shrugged his shoulders.
If I really wanted to leave, you wouldn’t be happy about it.
“Who was it that just said watching plays alone was no problem at all?”
Upon hearing Reyno say this, Kleya gripped Reyno’s sleeve even tighter, creating a large patch of wrinkles on his black shirt.
“If you really leave, all magical materials in the shop will be sold at original price from now on!”Â
Kleya glared at Reyno with those brown eyes, the stubbornness and dissatisfaction within them almost overflowing.
“Hey hey hey, I’m not leaving, not leaving. Young lady, you absolutely must not cancel the discount!”Â
Upon hearing that Kleya wanted to cancel his ‘lifetime membership,’ Reyno immediately stood at attention.
“Really? When you were about to leave just now, you didn’t hesitate for even a second.”Â
Kleya’s eyes narrowed into slits, staring at Reyno with traces of resentment.
“Oh my! Just now was just now, now is now! I’m feeling great now!”
“Fine fine, let’s hurry inside. There are many audience members for this afternoon’s play, if we don’t go in soon we’ll have to queue.”
After Reyno’s series of coaxing words like those used on children, the resentment on Kleya’s face finally mostly dissipated, returning to that gentle and approachable state.
“So…”
Reyno lowered his gaze, shifting it to Kleya’s hand.
“Can you let go of my sleeve now? Young lady?”
Only after Reyno’s reminder did Kleya realize, immediately withdrawing her hand that had been tightly gripping his sleeve. Embarrassedly blushing, she rubbed the corner of her skirt, then said: ‘Oh my, let’s go, hurry inside, hurry inside!’
Haila Opera House was quite large in scale, with as many as four ticket checkpoints.
After Kleya and Reyno entered one of the ticket checkpoints, she took out two tickets with dark gold borders and handed them to the ticket inspector.
Upon seeing the style of these two tickets, the ticket inspector’s face immediately filled with smiles, cordially welcoming the two inside.
“Young lady, what kind of tickets are these? They look quite impressive.”
“Hmph, membership tickets. You’re getting quite a bargain.”
“Amazing, young lady, you even got membership tickets. They weren’t cheap, were they?”
Kleya huffed and stuffed one of the trimmed tickets to Reyno: “Yours, take it.”
It wasn’t until the two figures completely disappeared into the opera house corridor that Molanna, who had been secretly lurking behind them, slowly emerged from the shadows.
Now she was full of bitterness, with anger and jealousy gnawing at her heart like maggots clinging to bone.
She ran –STOMP! to the opera house entrance, about to rush in immediately, and was predictably stopped by the ticket inspector.
“Miss, you haven’t shown your ticket yet.”
“Ticket… ticket…”
Only then did Molanna realize she hadn’t bought a ticket in advance.
“Ah, this play is… how much per ticket? I can buy one!”
“Today’s afternoon performance ticket price is one silver coin. The ticket office is over there.”Â
The ticket inspector pointed in a direction for Molanna, then paid her no more attention.
Silver coin?
One silver coin?
How much?
Hearing this price, Molanna’s head went BOOM.
You should know, the potions she brewed every day could only net about five copper coins in processing fees per bottle on average. This was what Master Reyno had told her.
Moreover, the raw materials were purchased by Reyno at discounted prices from Kleya. Without Kleya’s discount, this profit would be even lower.
She could only brew five or six bottles of potions per day, and sometimes when she wasn’t in good condition, she would fail.
And one silver coin was equivalent to a full hundred copper coins.
Those earned processing fees were almost all given to Reyno to maintain their livelihood.Â
Although Reyno would usually give her a portion as pocket money, she basically spent it all on magic textbooks.
Now asking her to produce one silver coin was harder than asking her to fly to the sky.
She dejectedly walked out of the ticket checkpoint, her mind as tangled as a ball of hemp.
Just give up the tracking like this? But what if that woman made moves on Master!
“Damn… to seduce the Master she actually spent such a fortune!”Â
Molanna bit her lower lip tightly with her front teeth, biting until those originally rosy and tender lips turned somewhat pale.
“No way… absolutely not. No matter what I do, I must follow them!”
Molanna reached her slender white hand into the inner pocket of her robe, pulling out a small glass tube about as thick as a finger.
In that glass test tube was stored an invisibility potion she had brewed a few days ago.
This invisibility potion had very harsh usage conditions. After drinking it, the body would gradually become transparent and invisible, but clothing and other personal items were not affected.
Some adventurers might buy one to carry for emergencies, but basically wouldn’t buy many.
Because of this, this type of potion didn’t sell well and often remained unsold after being brewed.
Looking at the wine-red liquid in the test tube, Molanna’s cheeks showed a faint blush.
Then she turned and left, as if having made some kind of resolution.
Molanna sprinted at full speed to a small alley near the opera house. After confirming no one was around, she pulled off the wooden stopper on the glass tube and drank all the wine-red liquid in one gulp.
After drinking the potion, Molanna felt a cool sensation penetrating from inside her body outward.
Then her skin began to slowly become transparent as if losing color, revealing the blood vessels, muscles, and bones beneath the skin, becoming completely transparent within just five seconds.
Now Molanna had become a walking set of clothes.
“I still need to take off the extra clothes… damn it, for Master!”
Then rustling sounds came from the alley. If a passerby had poked their head into the alley at this time, they would have seen clothing floating in the air gradually falling down piece by piece.
Robe, vest, undergarments, boots and socks.
After stripping off all her clothes, a massive sense of shame came like swords from all directions, stabbing at the completely naked Molanna.
She forcibly suppressed this feeling, then pulled over a piece of discarded burlap from the corner of the alley, covering all her clothes with it.
“Damn… damn, damn, damn, all because of that woman!”
While cursing in her heart, Molanna softly chanted an isolation spell.
Isolation spell, a magic that releases magical power to form a thin film wrapping the entire body.Â
It has various effects like waterproofing and dust protection.
Although Molanna was now invisible, things could still stick to her body—
For example, if her feet got dusty, passersby might see two dusty footprints floating in the air from time to time.
That would immediately expose her.
After everything was ready, Molanna closed her eyes and sensed Reyno’s location—
That’s right, earlier in the afternoon when Molanna was lying in Reyno’s arms, she had used ‘Marking Magic’ on Reyno.
For the rest of today, she could sense Reyno’s exact location.
She tentatively walked out of the alley. The invisibility potion’s effect was quite stable. The pedestrians on the road had no awareness of her at all.
But even so, she still felt shame constantly surging through her body, subconsciously covering her important parts even while invisible—
After all, this was her first time doing such bold behavior in public.
“Relax… for Master, it’s all worth it. As long as I get out and put my clothes back on before the potion’s time runs out, there won’t be any problem…”
After adjusting her state, she held her breath, chose a ticket checkpoint with almost no people, and while the ticket inspector was slacking off chatting with a colleague nearby, she held her breath and footsteps, slipping inside in a flash.
