The Extra Strategist’s Royal Road Chapter 22 part 2

The Extra Strategist’s Royal Road Chapter 22 – Part 2.

A full-scale war unfolds, and the battlefield becomes chaotic.

I began to set up the game while observing the entire battlefield.

The enemy’s movements, our army’s movements. The course of the war.

I calculate all of this in an instant to create a path leading to checkmate.

‘First, I need to deal with that.’

It’s Karl Maxman, searching for openings while fighting in the turbulent battlefield.

Instinctive type, intuitive type. Call him whatever you like. In any case, this abnormal type of general was hunting for prey in this chaotic battle.

‘They say that in their eyes, strategic points on the battlefield appear to be engulfed in flames or shining brightly.’

I deliberately created tactical openings mixed with traps to test this, but Maxman didn’t fall for them.

He instinctively sensed the smell of the trap and didn’t enter.

‘What an absurd type.’

He only bites the prey that’s good for him and never falls into traps.

At a glance, he seems invincible.

‘But there’s definitely a weakness.’

Because he moves so erratically, his soldiers can’t properly keep up.

As a result, soldiers at the tail end of his troops are dying meaninglessly.

Of course, he’s not at a loss overall because he’s achieving as much at the front.

“Ars, I’ll step in. We need to stop that guy quickly.”

My master said, gripping her weapon tightly, feeling a sense of crisis, but I shook my head.

“No, Master, please stay here.”

“…Is that a tactical choice? Or are you just worried about my safety?”

“Yes, that’s right. I’m much more concerned about you, Master. Though there are tactical reasons too.”

I didn’t want to put my master in danger in a war between Crossing and Beckavia, kingdoms that weren’t even closely related to me.

Instead, I planned to actively utilize Crossing’s personnel.

I called Anton, the red knight who was on standby, and said, “Anton, now’s the time. Put a leash on that guy.”

“Yes! I’ll move as you ordered!”

Anton, who received my order, quickly reached Maxman and struck him with his large sword.

“Huh!”

“…!?”

Clang!! The clash of weapons that can be heard even from afar.

Maxman, now facing Anton, finds himself pinned in place.

It seems Maxman’s individual power is around 90 to 95. It’s similar to or slightly higher than Master’s or Eo’s level.

Indeed, he’s a fierce warrior fit to be a great general of a kingdom. But even so, he’s no match for Anton with his power of 99.

“Huh!”

“Damn it!”

Clang!! Maxman is barely holding on.

Pinned down like this, he loses his spark. An instinct that has lost its spark is just a futile struggle.

With Maxman pinned, his army was rapidly losing troops.

And because of this, I was able to finish setting up the game leading to checkmate.

***

Sophia swallowed hard as she watched the orderly movements of Crossing’s army.

Even in the midst of chaos, the opponent was calmly countering without losing discipline.

There was a meticulous tactical design behind it.

‘No way…!’

The opponent’s tactical movements were beyond the norm.

‘Commanding all units in this chaos…!?’

The units that Ars had divided into groups of 3,000 each.

This was a kind of unit division operation.

Ars was treating these 3,000 as individual pieces, maneuvering them tactically.

It’s easy to say, but controlling all of this in such chaos was something only a great general or strategist could even attempt.

“Commander! General Maxman’s movements have been restricted by the red knights! If this continues, the General will be isolated!”

“Ugh!”

Maxman, acting independently, was causing dissonance for Sophia, who was somehow keeping up with Ars tactical movements.

This showed just how effectively Ars was dealing with the situation.

In other wars, the Beckavia army had rarely experienced such dissonance.

The combination of instinct and orthodox tactics achieved by the Beckavia army was nothing tp Ars.

Ars was sneering at such attempts, exploiting the gaps as if mocking them.

‘Wade…. That guy’s intention is clear.’

It was to gradually isolate and annihilate Maxman, whose movements were restricted.

All the tactical movements being taken now were pointing to this.

Currently, Maxman’s army is undoubtedly the main force of Beckavia. If they are annihilated, the battlefield will immediately lead to defeat.

‘Then what I need to do is one thing.’

Sophia immediately shouted. “Amarti! I’ll give you 5,000 troops! Hold back the red knight!”

“Yes! I’ll go right away!”

Sophia dispatched 5,000 troops from her main camp to the front.

This was to detach Anton and give freedom to Maxman.

The enemy’s special forces, rushing out from their main camp to catch Anton.

I felt my strength draining.

‘I had quite high expectations….’

The enemy’s commander-in-chief, Sophia Veron.

She was a character who appeared as the main heroine in the game.

She appears as an aide in the process of the protagonist pacifying the Beckavia region and plays an active role as a military officer.

Like Liu Bei obtaining Zhuge Liang, she assists the protagonist who was frustrated by Ars’ antics, showcasing divine military tactics.

Her character rank was SSR.

But the impression of facing her directly was underwhelming.

‘I didn’t expect it to end so trivially.’

The special forces dispatched from the main camp to give freedom to Maxman.

I had been waiting for this moment.

The moment Maxman is given freedom, slash! I lay a bait through tactical movement. I showed an attack route towards my main camp.

Maxman takes this bait. He rushes in, saying that flames have risen, that a ray of light has appeared on the battlefield.

“Hah! There’s good prey. I’m going!”

Maxman was beautifully caught.

The reason why he moved according to my intention, even though he’s capable of detecting the scent of a trap, is simple.

Because this wasn’t a trap. This was truly a tactical mistake. The officers’ expressions were filled with bewilderment, and the soldiers were confused.

Exposing the main camp like this was an absolutely unacceptable bad move.

For Maxman, who had been frustrated with his movements being restricted by Anton, this was prey he couldn’t pass up.

“Wade! He’s rushing in this direction quickly!”

My master shouted urgently. It looked like he was completely maneuvered tactically.

But due to a single method, the situation completely reversed.

Bang!! Suddenly, the enemy’s right wing collapsed.

“What…!?”

Only then did Maxman sense an ominous smell, his eyes widening as he looked in that direction.

There was Anton, who had rallied the left wing army.

Anton, who was thought to have been restricted by the enemy’s special forces.

Following my instructions, he had rallied 10,000 troops from the left wing.

“Let’s go! We’ll annihilate the enemy’s main camp without leaving anything behind!”

He began charging towards the enemy main camp where Sophia was.

“What did you say!?” Sophia had no choice but to be shocked.

Restrict Anton’s movements to give freedom to Maxman.

Ars has read from the beginning that she would make this judgment.

Therefore, I used that in reverse.

It was a kind of change in perspective.

The fact that Maxman was given freedom meant that Anton also gained freedom.

And Anton, who gained freedom, obtained an efficient assault route to the enemy’s main camp.

The defensive line heading to the main camp had been loosened because Sophia had dispatched special forces from the main camp.

“Princess! Please step back!”

4th General McCauley Coon tried to block Anton by commanding the forces of the main camp, but Anton’s prowess was not easily controllable.

“Uooooh!”

“Hah!?”

Kwaddeuddeuk! The Beckavia soldiers who saw Anton crushing through the defensive line were terrified.

“He’s crazy….” Sophia muttered in bewilderment.

To her, Ars tactics seemed like playing chess with people.

As if saying that it would be over if you could take the opponent’s king somehow, he boldly aimed for the main camp, accepting massive sacrifices of soldiers and tactical losses.

‘That’s why he deliberately gave Maxman a gap…!’

Maxman, who had taken the bait and dug deep into enemy territory, became unable to retreat to block Anton.

However, that doesn’t mean the overall situation was bad.

Maxman was also in a position to aim for the opponent’s main camp.

Elimination game.

It turned into a form of chicken game with each other, to finish each other’s main camps.

Ars was threatening, saying ‘If you’re scared, just die’.

‘Even if we suffer serious damage now, we can retreat!’

Sophia didn’t want to go along with that chicken game.

Even if there were losses, she wanted to retreat with Maxman, clear the threat to the main camp, and reestablish the system.

‘According to the information, there’s a high possibility that Eonia Mirabel and Ilya Anfei are in the enemy’s main camp!’

One is the captain of the Royal Guard of Kuravel Kingdom. The other is an S-class mercenary.

Maxman and his lieutenants might be able to handle them, but they could also be defeated.

It means the situation couldn’t be certain.

‘But knowing Maxman’s personality, he won’t retreat now…!’

The opponent knew this and chose this strategy.

In other words, it means they were confident in protecting their main camp from the beginning.

“There’s something else. Send a retreat signal to General Maxman right now! That place is a death trap!”

However, as she predicted, Maxman did not retreat. He broke through and aimed for the main camp where Ars was.

Bang!! The guard soldiers were thrown out.

Maxman, who arrived in front of me after defeating those guards, glared at me with passionate eyes while breathing heavily.

Around him, Maxman’s close soldiers and our troops trying to protect the main camp were engaged in a battle.

Still, being our main camp, we had the military advantage.

“That ash-colored helmet. You must be Wade…!”

“And you must be Karl Maxman. Nice to meet you. How does it feel to enter a death trap?”

“Hah! Not a bad feeling.”

Maxman gritted his teeth after glancing at master Ilya and Eonia standing on either side of me.

These two are skilled enough not to lose even in a one-on-one battle with Maxman.

This was the reason why having a master by my side was a tactical choice. Even if the opponent reaches my main camp, the best guards are protecting me.

“I’d like to ask one thing, but how did my main camp look to you? Did you see flames? Or did you see light?”

“At first, it looked like an appetizing light. But it gradually turned black. Like an abyss. I’ve only had this experience when facing Zemuto.”

“Hmm, I’ll praise your courage for coming in knowing that.”

“Even if I hadn’t come in, you would have chased after me. Am I wrong?”

“You’re not wrong. I’ve already prepared a pursuit and annihilation operation anticipating that you would try to escape. You’ve saved me the trouble by coming in.”

In fact, coming this far might have been the right answer from Maxman’s perspective.

Because there was at least a slim possibility of victory.

Maxman says to me, “Kuhah! My blood is boiling. How about it, Wade? Want to have a man-to-man battle with me?”

“Unfortunately, I have no such dream. What about you? Don’t you want to surrender? You could save your life.”

“I refuse.”

Maxman takes his stance without further ado.

He seems to think that he and his lieutenants can handle master and Eo, but we have two more forces including myself.

Whirl! I rotated my ..mmm….

Behind me were master, Eo, and Yumir.

Maxman widened his eyes at Yumir’s ominous aura.

“Your mistake was underestimating me too much. In war, don’t be overconfident in yourself and don’t look down on your opponent. That’s the basics of military tactics.”

“You talk too much! Come at me!”

Maxman enters a desperate battle.

There were no variables. No matter how excellent a general he was, he couldn’t overcome this difference in power.

His five close lieutenants were instantly dealt with by master and Eonia.

Maxman, who was engaged in a one-on-one battle with Yumir, was soon surrounded and while he was blocking attacks from the other two, kwak! Yumir struck his neck, killing him.

In the first engagement on the first day of the war, Beckavia suffers a fatal blow by losing their great general, and was defeated.
