The sound of clashing metal.
It was the sound of Ars dueling with the Knight of Terror, Cuthbert.
The two were exchanging blows without taking a single step back.
However, the objective advantage was with Ars. Cuthbert’s body was continuously being wounded by Ars’ attacks.
“Uwooooh!”
Unable to bear being on the defensive, Cuthbert swings his halberd wildly. Ars stabs Cuthbert’s thigh with a ‘thunk!’ while dodging the halberd and stepping back.
“Haa! Haa!”
Cuthbert breathes heavily. Ars says with a smirk, “For all your big talk, you’re not much.”
“Hah! You must be the monster here.”
Cuthbert knew Ars’ identity.
‘This must be the disciple that Ilya Anfei was looking for. No wonder he’s a monster.’
Still, compared to Ilya, Ars was manageable enough to fight. For now, he was being pushed back only because of the unexpectedness of Ars’ sword-spear technique. The level of martial arts itself was similar for both.
‘In that case, I’ll win.’
Shlick! The large wound on his thigh that had been inflicted by Ars’ attack healed rapidly as if regenerating.
As Ars stared with wide eyes, Cuthbert smiled, raising the corner of his mouth.
“Now, shall we start round two?”
“Regenerative ability…!? What kind of attribute is this?”
“You don’t need to know.”
The two clash again. An even fiercer battle than the first unfolds. Still, Ars has the upper hand, and Cuthbert barely manages to push Ars away while taking hits to non-vital areas.
Seeing the wounds regenerate again, Ars frowns for the first time.
“Seeing how desperately you’re protecting your head, I guess that’s your weak point.”
“Correct. Then you must know by now. That you can’t defeat me. That you can’t kill me.”
“…What a strange fellow you are.”
Attacking other parts is meaningless. But when he tries to crush the head, the opponent is intensively protecting it. Even if he succeeds in aiming for the head, teleportation scroll will activate before he can crush it.
Cuthbert’s strategy was to fight indefinitely until he understood his opponent’s weakness or until his opponent became exhausted.
Cuthbert stared at Ars with a sinister gaze.
‘I’ll definitely kill you.’
Cuthbert knew about the contract between Ilya and the Article faction. The part where the contract with Ilya would be nullified as soon as Ars was discovered.
As such, he couldn’t let the two meet before this matter was settled.
If possible, it would be best if he killed Ars here and concealed it.
“So even if I crush your head, it only sends you back to the enemy base?”
“Look forward to that moment. After using the teleportation scroll again, I’ll come back to tear you apart as many times as it takes!”
An immortal being that’s hard to kill and can’t be properly killed due to teleportation scroll.
That was Article’s ultimate force, Cuthbert.
Ars tried to fight by first severing Cuthbert’s body parts to aim for his head, but unbelievably, the body parts regenerated from the cut areas, and the severed parts turned to ash and disappeared.
“What is this monster! You’re not human, are you?”
“Hahahaha! Keep struggling!”
Even for Ars, fighting indefinitely was too much.
As such, he tried to make Cuthbert activate his teleportation scroll to send him back to the base, but it wasn’t easy to break through Cuthbert’s defense that only protected his head.
‘This is trouble.’
Even to Ars, Cuthbert’s martial arts skills were top-notch. Although he was overwhelming him now with experience in human combat and unpredictability, these advantages would soon disappear.
‘I need to figure out the secret of that regeneration.’
Initially, Ars thought the regeneration ability would end when magic was depleted, but despite continuous injuries, there was no sign of the regeneration ability stopping.

Ars caught his breath while keeping his distance.

At that moment, Erina shouts as if she’s realized something.
“Ars! He’s receiving support from outside! The dark mage and the Knight of Terror… They say dark mages can control the dead or the living to grant special abilities and transfer magical power. There must be a dark mage nearby granting that regeneration ability!”
“As expected. I thought that might be the case. Even so, there’s no way to find them. At least, not for me.”
Ars wanted to entrust this task to someone else who could do it, but it was difficult to find such a person in this chaos.
“I have a way.”
“Really?”
Erina began to gather her power.
“Haaa!”
She released the gathered power with all her might, as if creating a shockwave.
Then, crackling small streams of static electricity scattered and enveloped Ars and Cuthbert.
Ars felt a pleasant stimulation from this, but Cuthbert winced as if it was quite painful.
And the static electricity streams that enveloped Cuthbert flowed somewhere as if they had found the streams supplying him with magical power.
Erina nodded.
“I found it! It’s over there!”
It was an area where no battle was taking place. A terrain perfect for hiding.
Ars called out to those catching their breath nearby.
“There’s a dark mage controlling undead soldiers over there! Please deal with them and come back!”
About three people headed there at his direction.
“Damn it.”
Cuthbert cursed lightly. However, his composure didn’t disappear. It was because the force Ars sent wasn’t enough to subdue them.
Ars knew this too, so he tried to send additional people, but the battle was so fierce that no one had the leisure to help.
The only option left for Ars was to run away without looking back. Right now, he could still shake off Cuthbert and make a run for it with Erina.
Ars didn’t have much aversion to fleeing itself. Even when the dragon first caused chaos, he fled to the rear with Erina without hesitation.
However, Ars was now in a position to lead people.
Fleeing in this situation meant abandoning those who followed him.
Ars had pride as a commander, as a general. That’s why he was trying to find a way out while facing off against Cuthbert.
“Is there anyone! Anyone who can help us here!”
No one responded to Ars’ cry. Everyone was too busy to help.
At this moment, Erina bit her lip hard.
As Ars was pushed into a defensive position for the first time after taking Cuthbert’s attack, she made up her mind.
“Ars, I’ll go and come back.”
“No, it’s too dangerous! Just stay by my side!”
“It’s okay. I’ll definitely come back alive.”
“Wait, Erina!”
Ars tried to grab her, but his feet were tied up due to the halberd Cuthbert swung just then.
