The Extra Strategist’s Royal Road Chapter 180

The Extra Strategist’s Royal Road Chapter 180

I was momentarily in a panic.

Seeing Erina next to Princess Rosa, I could somewhat guess the situation.

‘So that Erina was really Erina!?’

To think we were attending the same academy.

If that was the case, I truly had been completely oblivious. Well, I had never actually seen the person called Erina, so the expression ‘it’s darkest under the lamp’ might be appropriate.

‘I was completely fooled.’

Because she said she had a husband and was even a 10-year friend of Princess Rosa, I naturally thought it couldn’t be her.

She was looking at me with tears in her eyes.

‘Well, I’ll be. There really was one more at the academy. Dorofei was right.’

I gave a nod to Erina and then turned my gaze to my opponent.

Rinoa asks, wondering what’s going on.

“What is it? Did something happen with Princess Rosa?”

She seems to think I exchanged glances with Princess Rosa. Although I had revealed to Rinoa that my real name was Ars, the name Wade seems to be strongly imprinted in her mind, as she apparently didn’t register Erina’s cry just now.

“It’s nothing. Let’s just get this over with quickly.”

“…? Alright. You just keep up with your opponent appropriately.”

Rinoa faced Prince Joseph, and I faced Dayan Kiros.

Usually, it’s a 2 vs 2 match, but sometimes there are cases like this.

By mutual agreement, it’s conducted in the form of individual matches.

This often happens in duels involving royalty. In 2 vs 2 fights, the royalty doesn’t stand out as much, and when commoners are mixed in on the opposing side, it’s said to be mismatched.

So Joseph will duel with Rinoa, and Dayan will take care of me.

“Then, begin!”

As the announcer’s signal dropped, everyone took their stance. However, like last time, no one moved first.

They were waiting for Prince Joseph to make the first move.

But Joseph was staring blankly towards where Princess Rosa was, with his eyes wide open.

“Ars… You say?”

Joseph seemed shocked for some reason. Then Dayan whispers, “Your Highness, what’s the matter?”

“Ah, it’s nothing. I must have misheard.”

Having forcibly composed himself, Joseph pointed his rapier at Rinoa. Magic swirled at the tip of that rapier, and an air bullet was fired as if from an air gun.

“Hah!”

Rinoa countered that attack and entered the duel.

Dayan also approached me and said, “I hear you subdued a royal guard?”

“Something like that might have happened.”

“Hmph, don’t get cocky. That’s not such a big deal.”

This guy also said he had taken down a royal guard. I was curious about his skills too.

There was also Rinoa’s request to recruit one of my classmates.

‘Wait a minute.’

I thought that bringing Erina might be enough.

‘What, there was nothing to worry about after all.’

I was reluctant to accept new people other than my vassals, so this was perfect timing.

The immediate team can be composed of Lucretia, Rinoa, me, and Erina.

It’s a bit awkward that I’m the only man, but it should be fine when friends like Dorofei, Gunther, Ash, and Aggert join later.

As I made a refreshed expression, Dayan seemed displeased and pointed his broadsword at me, saying, “I’ll personally confirm those skills. If you don’t stay alert, it’ll be over in an instant, so be prepared.”

“You really do talk big.”

“Hah!”

Tap! Dayan dives in with a heavy step in an instant.

His swordsmanship was similar to that used by the royal guards. Linear and heavy.

A swordsmanship that shows the will to crush the opponent in one go.

‘…Not bad?’

I didn’t realize it well when facing the royal guard last time, but this swordsmanship was clearly made to deal with humans.

Well, that’s because monsters don’t intentionally target the king.

If the kingdom is on the brink of destruction, there might be occasions to fight monsters, but by then, the situation itself would already be over.

For kings and royalty, the direct threat is none other than humans. Therefore, the martial arts of the royal guard developed with the assumption of dealing with humans.

“Don’t be so brazen!”

The guy raised his sword diagonally and swung it towards my neck and both sides of my waist.

An attack aimed at vital points.

I tilted my head back to avoid the first attack aimed at my neck, then did a side tumble to avoid the attack aimed at my waist while simultaneously moving to the guy’s side.

“What…!?”

Dayan was astonished.

I jabbed his side with my left elbow, breaking his ribs.

“Ugh!”

Dayan clutched his side and quickly retreated.

“You, you…!”

“Not a bad attack. Your basic stance and mindset are good. You have a good foundation.”

He was more worthwhile to train than Lucretia. Though I had no intention of training him.

“Don’t talk as if you’ve won!”

Dayan kept charging at me. Even though his foundation was good, he still lacked experience and skill.

He eventually mixed magic into his fierce attacks, but I deflected them appropriately while attacking just enough not to kill him.

“Huff! Huff! Huff!”

Dayan was breathing heavily. Cold sweat trickled down his temples.

In one part of the spectator stands, Lucretia, who was watching the duel with a royal guard officer, was shaking her head.

“Not yet… Not yet!”

Dayan’s fighting spirit seemed unbroken as he prepared to charge again.

Just before that, Rinoa declared surrender.

“I admit defeat!”

Rinoa and Joseph’s match had consistently proceeded with Joseph’s superiority.

Since Joseph’s actual skill was about two levels above, Rinoa held out as long as she could before declaring surrender.

The host, who had been anxiously watching my duel with Dayan, seized the moment and shouted.

“The winners! Joseph Divine and Dayan Kiros!”

Joseph, having secured victory, turned his gaze to Dayan. His voice had turned cold.

“I saw everything. Dayan, what kind of disgraceful display was that?”

“I, I’m ashamed. I think I let my guard down.”

“Hmph.”

Perhaps because I didn’t overwhelm him with force, Joseph seemed to judge that Dayan had fallen behind because he hadn’t performed properly.

Joseph glared at me, apparently displeased, but soon lost interest and raised his sword high.

Then, applause and cheers erupted.

Joseph grinned and then pointed the rapier, which had been raised to the sky, sharply towards Princess Rosa’s direction.

The meaning of that gesture was clear.

This victory is for you.

“Woooah!”

“As expected of the prince!”

The spectators couldn’t contain their admiration.

“For Princess Rosa who has been ill…”

“How splendid!”

Princess Rosa gave a bitter smile at the spectators’ cheers and came down to the training ground with Erina.

Joseph’s eyes widened at this unexpected action, but he soon smiled triumphantly.

Princess Rosa urged Erina forward, pushing her back gently.

Tap tap tap! Erina ran.

For some reason, Joseph had his arms spread wide, but ignoring that, Erina ran past him and rushed towards me.

“Ars…!”

“Whoa!?”

Her momentum was so strong that I almost fell over, unable to receive her properly.

Up close, the changes were noticeable. Although it had only been about 3 months, it seemed she had led quite a tough life.

Her long hair, which she usually maintained, was tied in a ponytail, probably because it had become difficult to manage. It seemed she had also exercised a lot, perhaps to build stamina. She looked leaner than when I last saw her.

Though signs of a tough life were visible, she actually looked healthier.

Erina, overcome with emotion, couldn’t say a word as she sobbed. I could only pat her back gently.

Glancing around, I saw various reactions.

Rinoa was perplexed, wondering what was going on. I’ll have to explain the situation to her.

The spectators didn’t pay much attention to me. Their focus was solely on Princess Rosa and Prince Joseph.

After all, they firmly believed that Joseph’s victory celebration was directed at Rosa.

Speaking of Joseph, he was standing frozen like a stone, staring in my direction.

Princess Rosa muttered to him, “I told you, didn’t I? That Erina already has someone in her heart. So, dear brother? Don’t even think about approaching Erina anymore.”

“That’s…”

Princess Rosa growled as she issued her warning, then turned to look at Erina with a warm smile.

* * *

After moving to Rinoa’s mansion, I was able to catch up on the accumulated stories.

“Really. To think we didn’t run into each other even once while attending the same academy for over two months. Is this even possible, even if we were in different classes?”

Erina’s expression clouded at my incredulous reaction.

“That was because of the princess.”

“Princess Rosa….”

There was a mountain of things I wanted to ask about that too.

Erina started telling her story from the beginning, one by one.

How she was transferred to the royal palace and taken in as a maid thanks to Princess Rosa, how she entered the academy, and how Princess Rosa confessed that she had done nothing wrong.

“You say it was because of me?”

“That’s right.”

Erina muttered as if dumbfounded, yet also as if it made sense.

“Since I’m not a noble here, I might seem more approachable… I’ll have to keep a close eye on this… If only Estelle were here at times like this…”

After sighing as if complaining, she glanced at Rinoa, who was watching with her legs crossed, and asked, “How did you meet Miss Rinoa, Ars?”

“It’s a bit complicated.”

Now it was my turn to tell my story.

Erina’s eyes widened when I mentioned finding Gunther and Gaspar, and she involuntarily cried out when I said Dorofei belonged to the Alliance Academy.

“No way! Dorofei has the quality to use salvation movement!?”

“Seems he’s getting good treatment because of it.”

“Of course he would!”

Erina emphasized how much of a blessing it was to be born with time and space attributes. It seems she had studied magic much more enthusiastically than I had.

“Come to think of it, what kind of magic can you use, Ars?”

“Light, and arcane.”

“Arcane! It suits you very well.”

“What about light?”

“Huh? Well, light… That is…”

“It doesn’t suit me, right?”

“No, no! It suits you.”

“Haha…. Tell me about yourself too.”

From what I heard, she was born with the lightning attribute, one of the rare attributes.

“Lightning… It feels like it both suits you and doesn’t suit you at the same time.”

“Hehe, I’ll show you later.”

“I’m looking forward to that. I’ll also show you arcane magic…”

That’s when Rinoa interrupted.

“Wait. Weren’t you going to talk about me? Don’t suddenly get lost in your own world.”

“Ah, sorry. So… You’re Ars’ sponsor, Miss Rinoa.”

“In a broad sense, I suppose that’s right. Wade… or should I call you Ars?”

Rinoa asked with her eyes how she should address me.

“You can call me Wade. It’s an alias, but I’m as used to it as my real name.”

“Then, Wade. Are you going to bring her to the club you’re creating?”

“That’s the plan. So, have I met the conditions? I’ve brought two classmates, including you.”

Rinoa smirked and nodded.

“Alright. I’ll sponsor everything. For the dungeon conquest club too. And for finding your vassals. Your claim about having vassals doesn’t seem to be a lie… I’d like to see them too. How amazing these vassals of yours are.”

“It’s not perfect without Anton and Rutger, but… Well, look forward to it.”

With this, the establishment of the dungeon conquest club was settled. The rest was just to proceed with dungeon conquests when we had time.

“But…”

There was one thing I was curious about.

“You said Princess Rosa confessed the truth three days ago, right?”

“That’s right.”

“Then why did you show up today? You could have come to me right away.”

“Well… I needed to prepare.”

“Prepare?”

It was then.

Anduha, the mansion’s servant, appeared with a knock and said, “Miss. Some luggage has arrived in front of the mansion.”

“Ah, that’s mine,” Erina said, raising her hand.

To Anduha’s questioning look, Rinoa shrugged and answered, “Princess Rosa asked me earlier. To let her stay at our mansion.”

Over the past few days, Princess Rosa had been working on getting Erina out of the palace, including terminating her position as her partner student and her maid status. It seems she’s also moving Erina’s class from Class 1 inside the palace to Class 17 where I am.

She had taken measures to ensure Erina could be with me.

While it was a bit of a headache for me, judging from how Erina speaks and acts, she seems to be a genuinely good person.

“Anduha, show her to her room. Give her the room next to Wade’s.”

“Ah, yes!”

Erina went with Anduha to move her luggage to her room.

Rinoa shook her head and said, “Whew, let me warn you in advance, but keep it moderate. If I hear any lewd moans in the middle of the night, I’ll kick you out immediately.”

“Don’t worry about strange things.”

Still, I felt bad about relying on Rinoa even for these aspects.

I decided that if we could secure money through dungeon conquests, I would look into getting a mansion to use as a base.
