The Extra Strategist’s Royal Road Chapter 126

The Extra Strategist’s Royal Road Chapter 126

The enemy forces numbering around 6,000 are approaching my side. I tried to think of a tactical meaning in my head, but there was nothing that came to mind. This was a tactical misstep.

Yet I instinctively felt that the enemy was moving with a clear purpose.

“Don’t panic, respond!”

The first to face the enemy forces was General Feradin.

“How dare you charge out so foolishly! I’ll bury you all here!”

He enthusiastically met the enemy. In terms of numbers, the allied forces were clearly superior. So he thought that if he gradually reduced the enemy’s numbers, he could win.

However, he failed to calculate the destructive power of the enemy.

“Aaaargh!”

Crack! Crack! Crack! Whenever the protagonist swung his sword, the soldiers were sliced to pieces.

The protagonist had an individual strength of 97, making him one of the strongest in the game. His character grade was SSR, but would become the highest grade of UR by the time of academy graduation.

Following closely behind the protagonist were his vassals.

First, Riserl Haldras.

Using a slender polearm, he utilized the unique range of the polearm to completely deny the soldiers’ approach, guarding the protagonist’s side.

He too was a powerhouse with an individual strength of 93, and his character grade was SSR.

But that was not all.

“I’ll help too!”

“Don’t rush ahead, Cassius!”

There were twin female warriors named Tena and Rina.

As the protagonist’s childhood friends, one wielded a sword and shield, while the other used a rapier.

Tena, the younger sister who used the rapier, had a strength rating of 85, which was SR grade.

Rina, the older sister who used the sword and shield, had a strength rating of 87, which was SSR grade.

A flood of game characters.

Additionally, there was a mysterious giant.

‘Ah, that’s…’

He was the man who had guarded Prince Eldric in the past.

‘His name was Claus, I think?’

I somehow managed to remember it.

“I’ll take down the enemy commander! Follow me, everyone! Sir Claus, please make a path towards the target!”

“Understood.”

The protagonist’s group began to stir up our camp.

‘Oh no!’

From my perspective, it was a vulnerable situation.

There was nothing I could do in this situation, since the actual command of the right wing was being carried out by General Feradin.

‘This is dangerous!’

The enemy’s momentum was not ordinary.

I decided to do the maximum I could in response. “Olaf! Get ready to counterattack the enemy! Brother Ferge, support the troops from the rear!”

However, I was just a bit too late.

I thought that we were the attacking party in today’s battle. That’s why I hadn’t particularly prepared for this kind of situation.

I never even dreamed that the opponent would make such a tactical misstep and do this.

But whether the opponent’s move was a misstep or not, it no longer mattered much.

“Ugh!?”

By the time General Feradin was killed by the protagonist, it was too late.

Feradin, like me, thought that we were the attacking party.

That’s why he was unnecessarily positioned at the front, which became his undoing.

“General!”

“These guys…!”

The soldiers were splitting up. Cassius seemed to have expected the soldiers’ morale to drop with the general’s death, but Feradin was a renowned general, albeit lacking in ability.

The soldiers were instead enraged and tried to kill the protagonist’s group.

“Tch! I’ll hold this place! Sir Claus! And everyone else! Target the objective!”

As Cassius stayed behind to bind the other soldiers’ feet, all the enemy officers’ attention was focused on me.

‘Am I the target?’

I had little guess as to why they were targeting me.

‘Is it for the revenge of Christian Peltz?’

If Peltz had a close relationship with the protagonist’s group, that could be the reason.

‘Or does Prince Eldric remember me?’

Whatever the case, since the enemy was targeting me, I had to respond. “Dorofei, go to the central army right away and call for reinforcements.”

“Uh, okay!”

I sent the non-combatant Dorofei as a messenger, then faced the enemies.

“Haaaa!”

Tatatatatattak! The sound of Tena’s rapier piercing through the soldiers’ heads.

“Sis Rina!”

“Leave it to me!”

Behind Tena, her sister Rina approached the approaching soldiers, striking their heads with her shield, causing them to groan in pain and collapse to the ground.

The incapacitated soldiers were then methodically dealt with by Dalmore Sting.

“Whew! Tena! Don’t get too excited, you’re making a mess!”

“Hehe, Dalmore, you just need to take care of us as usual.”

“Ugh, you two are really impossible to handle.”

In addition to them, Riserl Haldras and Claus displayed their overwhelming might, pushing forward.

‘At this rate, the casualties will become too great!’

There was no other choice now.

“I’ll counterattack with full force! Let’s go!”

The showdown between the protagonist’s vassals and my own vassals.

An event that would normally only occur at the climax of a game was unfolding.

The vassals of Ars and the protagonist’s vassals clashed.

Tena and Rina, who were rampaging first, were engaged by Aggert and Gaspar, as well as Lysithea.

“Uraaah!”

Clang! Aggert forcefully parried Tena’s rapier, causing her to stumble back.

“So the core forces have finally appeared…”

“Hehe, what are you talking about, ma’am. I’m just a humble guy who’s in your debt, not some core force.”

“Ma’am!? Such impudent words…”

“What, if you’re older than me, you’re all sir or ma’am to me.”

“Hmph, your spirit is impressive! Let’s see if that attitude holds up after you’ve tasted my rapier!”

“Alright, bring it on!”

In the close quarters, Gaspar was facing off against Rina.

Gaspar narrowed his eyes.

“A shield and sword, huh. Could it be you’re one of Woodmore’s children?”

“Do you know my father?”

“Know him? That stubborn fellow was a pain. Was your mother a rapier user as well?”

“My mother too…!? Are you perhaps…”

“What’s with that look? Did you perhaps think I was some friend of Woodmore’s? If so, you’re mistaken. I wasn’t on good terms with Woodmore’s spawn, you see!”

Kwang! The crash of Gaspar’s great sword as he strikes his shield.

Rina was pushed back with a slither.

A light atmosphere flowed between Dalmore and Lysithea.

“Whoa! An older sister to my taste!? Would you please take off your helmet!?”

“What are you?”

“Ahaha, if you ask me that way, I’ll have something to answer… I’m just a lowly minion. Just pass me by.”

Tena and Rina got angry, saying “Do it properly!”, so Dalmore reluctantly raised his sword to Lysithea. Lysithea shook her head and also aimed her weapon.

The group with Rina and Tena, their feet stuck.

Regarding Riserl Haldras, Eonia took charge.

“What, you.”

“…”

Eonia wanted to loudly proclaim that she was Rania, a loyal vassal of Ars, but after the previous battle, she had been scolded for that, so she held her tongue.

“I don’t need to know. You’ll soon die by my spear.”

“Hah! Good, let’s see your skills!”

Their duel was at a standstill.

Finally, Yumir and Ars stepped forward regarding Claus.

“Please step back, young master!”

“That’s impossible.”

I was feeling a prickling sensation.

The oppressive presence emanating from the one called Claus was much greater than I had expected.

‘This guy is beyond even Fischer Partin!’

Judging from this, he may be slightly below Anton, but he seems to be on par with or slightly above Master Ilya.

The estimated combat power is 96. If I’m not careful, I could lose my life right then and there, so I had to wield both sword and spear from the beginning.

“Chester, is it? That Guderian fellow. Spreading martial arts all over the place.”

It seems he is one of Eldric’s subordinates. He also seems to be well-versed in the affairs of the West.

“You were Prince Eldric’s bodyguard, weren’t you?”

“Haha, you remember, do you? Well, I remembered you too. The presumptuous brat who dared to talk back to the Prince!”

Whooosh! It was as if a huge iron bar was swung.

“Ugh!?”

The halberd he swung targeted my neck.

I tried to use the one-moon combination to disarm his weapon, but he knew about Chester-style and deflected the attack, slipping away.

“Yumir, don’t rush in recklessly. Holding out is to our advantage.”

“Yes, young master.”

Holding out means victory for our side. If we can hold out, Dorofei heading towards the central army will bring reinforcements.

That time would be at most 30 minutes.

Judging from the increasing impatience on their side, they seemed to be aware of this as well.

At this rate, a decision could be reached on one side or the other.

Aggert and Lysithea hadn’t gained a clear upper hand, but Gaspar’s experience allowed him to pressure his opponent.

Rina’s great shield, which was under attack, was damaged in places.

The protagonists were being pushed back.

That’s when it happened.

“Don’t give in, everyone!”

It was Dalmore, who was fighting with Lysithea.

He seemed to be trying to boost the morale, shouting. “This is not the place for us to die! If we all pool our strength, unite as one and face the enemy, we can overcome any desperate situation! Believe in yourself! Believe in Cassius! Believe in us, your comrades!”[1]

It was a rallying cry straight out of a shonen manga.[2]

“Let’s fight for our brothers!”

“Uoooooh!”

The soldiers of Bülang let out a battle cry.

The protagonists let out a wry smile, but they seemed to have gained strength and renewed their fighting spirit.

Dalmore was that kind of figure in the unit.

He may be frivolous, but he was a man you could rely on. His sense of loyalty was unparalleled. He was the life force of the unit.

‘Dalmore Sting…’

For a moment, I was distracted by that side.

“Where are you looking?”

“…!?”

Clang! Unable to properly receive the force of the attack, I had to roll on the ground.

The halberd came falling down on me again.

I set my spear diagonally and deflected the attack, springing back up into position.

‘Dangerous…’

If it weren’t for the fight against Fischer Partin, I might have died already. The opponent in front of me was that formidable.

Even with Yumir by my side, this was the level. Facing him alone would have been a slaughter.

‘But I can still hold out on this side…’

The problem was on the other side.

Just a moment ago, Dalmore’s morale boost had evened out the situation. Even Gaspar, who had been pressing the attack, was now on the defensive, counterattacked.

A tragic incident might occur.

I was consumed by that anxiety.

That’s when it happened.

“Ugh!”

The fallen officer, just before death, mustered his last strength and stabbed Eo’s calf with a dagger. This caused Eo to lose her balance and start rapidly losing ground.

I shouted towards the unoccupied Lysithea.

“No…! Lia! Go help her!”

“Understood!”

Lysithea created some distance from Dalmore and immediately headed towards where Eo was.

“Oh my, did you think I’d let you do that?”

Dalmore relentlessly pursued Lysithea. Just as Lysithea was about to go help Eo, her feet became entangled, and she was forced to stop.

In the meantime, Eo had lost her spear to Riserl’s precise attack and hastily drew the sword she had at her waist.

She was skilled with the sword as well, but it was no match for her main weapon, the spear.

There was no way she could hold out against the equally capable Riserl with just a sword.

“It’s over, woman. I’ll cut your neck and take a look at that face of yours.”

“Ugh!”

Riserl slowly approached Eo, seemingly intent on finishing her off.

Eo glanced my way, as if sensing her own death.

The meaning in that gaze was all too clear.

She was glad to have been able to serve me, and she was sorry.

“Come at me!!”

Even in the moment of her death, Eo was still trying to at least inflict some damage on the enemy.

‘Eo is going to die…? No, that can’t be!’

I couldn’t even bear the thought of Eo dying.

For the sake of saving her, I could do anything.

I gritted my teeth and shouted.

“…Hornet! Bring out the hidden stinger!”

1] Believe in the me that believe in the you [Gurren Lagann].

2] Shonen manga are generally aimed towards young boys, the likes of Naruto and One piece. Although a debate can be made for the recent works like Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man fit into that category, Jujutsu Kaisen is still the peak of shonen anime.
