The Extra Strategist’s Royal Road Chapter 117

The Extra Strategist’s Royal Road Chapter 117

It was the evening of the next day when I finished grading.

Having sacrificed the entire weekend for this competition, I gathered my vassals again, hoping that this would be a meaningful endeavor.

Ferge and Julia didn’t come to check their scores since they had participated just for fun, but Bisketa was different.

She had come to my mansion, putting aside her busy work.

‘She probably didn’t come to check her own score.’

It seemed she came to check Eo’s score.

“It might be too late to say this now… But please don’t take this too seriously, everyone.”

I gave a warning before announcing everyone’s scores.

  1. Biscetta Kren – 600 points
  2. Olaf – 583 points
  3. Rutger Rosenberg – 521 points
  4. Lysithea Dearwind – 504 points
  5. Ferge Elaine – 448 points
  6. Anton Quinter – 439 points
  7. Ilya Anfei – 374 points
  8. Yumir – 364 points
  9. Julia Elaine – 353 points
  10. Gaspar – 341 points
  11. Eonia Mirabel – 291 points
  12. Estelle Diante – 262 points

The winners were Team 2 consisting of Olaf, Gaspar, and Yumir, with a total of 1,288 points.

Second place was Team 1, which Rutger belonged to, with a total of 1,287 points.

It was a shocking… No, at that point, it was already an expected result.

“Wow! A perfect score. As expected, Madam Bisketa is amazing.”

Olaf, who joked like that, also got perfect scores in all subjects except for socializing. Apparently, he had forgotten social etiquette due to being cooped up at home for a long time.

There wasn’t much reaction to the top rankings as they were decided without much excitement.

The focus was undoubtedly on the battle for last place.

Both Eo and Estelle had cheating issues, but since it was mutual, we decided to disregard that aspect.

“Ahaha…” Eo didn’t know whether to be happy or sad.

It seemed she didn’t feel bitter seeing Anton, whom she considered a rival, so high up.

As for Estelle, she was watching Rutger’s reaction. Veins were popping on Rutger’s forehead.

“Estelle. Starting today, come to my room after your duties are over. I’ll tutor you.”

“Study…?” Estelle frowned, genuinely disliking the idea. Rutger, rarely showing a stern expression, pressed Estelle.

Bisketa was the same. “Eo, you too, come to my mansion after your work is done.”

“What? But my growth…”

As Eo pleaded with her eyes, saying at least she wasn’t last, Bisketa replied that it was out of the question.

“You think we can stay idle after losing to a human from Florand? The Holy King in heaven will weep!”

“Ugh, I understand…” Eo nodded glumly.

Feeling sorry for her, I decided to deliver some good news right away. “As I mentioned before, I’ve created a salary system based on these results. Wages will be paid weekly, so please take note.”

The salary rankings were completely different from the test scores.

  1. Eonia – 120,000 sillan
  2. Rutger – 100,000 sillan
  3. Ilya, Yumir – 95,000 sillan
  4. Gaspar – 90,000 sillan
  5. Olaf – 80,000 sillan

Eo was speechless at these rankings.

“I’m… I’m first? Me, who was always second?!”

“Always second? Were you worried about that?”

“Ah, Lord Ars! W-why am I…!”

“You’ve improved a lot in your specialization.”

While others missed some battles, Eo strangely participated in all wars and performed well. I couldn’t ignore the evaluation based on those achievements.

“Yes, yes, yes…!!” Eo roared quietly with an expression as if she could fly.

Olaf smiled bitterly. “Haha, I’m last here, huh.”

“I’m sorry, but it can’t be helped. You have less seniority. We decided not to reflect your results in this test’s evaluation.”

“Well, I’ll aim for the next opportunity. Since it’s come to this, I’ll aim for first place next time.”

In reality, the salary ranking was a more meaningful indicator than the test scores.

It’s like professional sports. Just as annual salary often reflects skill, this has a similar meaning.

Eo, full of herself, stared at Anton and raised the corner of her mouth mischievously. Anton couldn’t stand it and asked me.

“Lord Ars. I’m not on the list.”

“That’s because you’re already receiving a generous salary from Crossing. So we considered you separately.”

“That’s… But still.”

It seemed he was quite annoyed by Eo’s showing off.

“Then from now on, I won’t receive a salary from Crossing!”

A shocking declaration.

Master Ilya tried to dissuade him, but judging from Anton’s determined expression, it seemed he was intent on getting his name on the list for the next wage calculation.

Eo, for her part, showed a positive attitude towards studying with Bisketa, determined to keep her first place in wages.

The first Academic Competition ended amidst such commotion.

‘Next time, I should hold a martial arts competition.’

Although I’m not sure when that will be.

* * *

Having concluded the study competition, I headed towards the highest administrative office of the Crossing, accompanied by my master and her husband.

That guy Juras was waiting there.

When he saw me and grinned, I felt like ants were crawling up my back.

‘No matter how many times I meet him, I can’t get used to it.’

Still, I was a gentleman.

In my master’s case, she always takes a battle stance in front of Juras.

I asked Anton for some refreshments and then sat down facing him.

“You came early. I thought you’d be busy governing the Beckavia region, but I guess not?”

“I had something to report to the godfather and was on my way to Cross Horn. I stopped by on the way. So? What is it that you want to consult with me about?”

“It’s about the West.”

At my words, Master Ilya’s body flinched.

Juras stared at my master as if there was nothing to see.

“Did you tell him? That you were in that training facility.”

“…!?”

My master was startled.

“You… How on earth did you…!”

“What? You still haven’t told him? This conversation is going to get boring at this rate, so let me just tell you everything.”

Juras started explaining as if it was trivial information.

The gist of it was this.

Apparently, there’s something called a warrior training facility in the West.

It’s an institution operated by each of the three powers of the West, where they gather war orphans and children with nowhere to go and subject them to harsh training.

The harshness doesn’t just stop at being difficult.

Out of the initial 500 children, barely 10 remain by the time they become adults. The rest all die during the training process.

“The institution you belonged to was Hanneman’s direct subordinate, the Sleeping Dragon, wasn’t it? Fischer Partin was one of your peers. But you caught Guderian Chester’s eye and left the institution. Your peer Fischer Partin became the leader among your cohort and became one of Hanneman’s Five Dragons. I’m probably not wrong about any of this.”

“That’s why I’m asking how you know all this!”

It was clearly top-secret information. Even Anton, who could handle Crossing’s Level 1 information, had an expression like he was hearing this for the first time.

However, Juras just sighed as if it was trivial. “This is nothing but insignificant information. Don’t get worked up over every little thing. It’s noisy.”

“Ugh…!”

Waaah! Gawain started crying.

Even the baby who supposedly never cried started wailing, sensing that his mother had lost her composure.

“Hahaha! What a loud cry this child has.”

My master turned her body to hide the child from Juras’s gaze.

“Hmph, Anton. What’s the child’s name?”

“It’s Gawain.”

“A good name. …Well, since we can’t continue our conversation with the child crying, you two can see yourselves out.”

Anton, as if not wanting to leave me alone with Juras, only sent my master outside.

Juras took a sip of tea and asked.”Let’s get back to our conversation. What is it that you want to consult with me about?”

There were two things I wanted to consult Juras about. One about the Kuravel Holy Kingdom, and the other about the advice Guderian Chester gave me.

Today, I decided to ask about the latter.

“I happened to meet Guderian Chester recently.”

“That’s… Interesting. Looking at you, it doesn’t seem like you got into a fistfight. Did you get any information from him?”

“That’s right, he told me. Be wary of Western spies, be careful of Tetora Anistri, and… That there will be a war in Calliper.”

“A war in Calliper…?” Even Juras focused on the last part. “There shouldn’t be any reason for a war to break out in Calliper.”

“It seems you don’t have any ideas either.”

This means that even Juras’s intelligence on the West isn’t perfect.

“Hmm.”

“First, can you tell me about Tetora Anistri?”

“She’s the leader of the faction that controls the southern part of the West. She’s the military strategy master of Klaus Forkner, whom you faced before. Other than knowing that her military strategy is quite unique and that her temperament is cruel, I don’t know much else.”

Juras groaned softly.

“From the context of the conversation, it sounds like Tetora Anistri is going to invade Calliper.”

“Do you think that’s possible?”

“No. The West can’t directly attack Calliper. They won’t use sea routes. If it wasn’t Guderian Chester who said this, I would have dismissed it as false information.”

“I still have doubts about that part too. There’s a possibility it’s false information. Or maybe Guderian was misinformed.”

“No, Ars. We can’t dismiss Guderian’s words as a mere misunderstanding. The reason he told you such things is probably because you’re his fellow alumnus, isn’t it?”

“That’s right, he even called me his disciple.”

“Then it can’t be false information.”

Juras smiled innocently as if he had found a new toy.

“Ars, right now is a period without any justification for war.”

“That’s true.”

If there were any, it would be between Bülang and Svenner, or Tunkai and Beckavia at most.

“To start a war, you need some kind of justification. The West must have found some way to create that justification. Calliper needs to find what that ‘some way’ is and prevent it in advance.”

“…You mean we need to engage in behind-the-scenes diplomacy?”

“It might have already started.”

“Hmm.”

“About that part, it would be better to ask him rather than me.”

It was clear who ‘him’ referred to.

Coincidentally, tomorrow was the day of Calliper’s regular military council meeting, so it was a perfect opportunity.

* * *

After finishing my conversation with Juras, I returned to the mansion and was planning to go to bed early for tomorrow’s academy classes.

However, there were still guests remaining at the mansion.

It was Rutger and Estelle, father and daughter. Lysithea seemed to have been sent home earlier, as the two were studying in the reception room.

“You’re working hard. Did you miss your chance to go home? It’s fine if you stay overnight today.”

I said that and was about to ignore them, but Estelle approached me with small steps, seemingly having something to discuss.

Then, as if wanting to talk privately, she followed me to my room.

“So this is Ars’ room…”

Estelle looked around curiously, turning her head here and there.

“I’m sorry, normally I could have a leisurely conversation, but I’m a bit tired now. If you have something to say, could you make it quick?”

“Ah… Well. It’s not really anything important, but…”

Estel hesitated, then, “Ars… Are you perhaps disappointed in me?”

“Pardon?”

“I’m asking if you’re disappointed because I’m stupid!”

I answered while hanging my outer clothes in the wardrobe. “I’m not disappointed.”

I already knew that Estelle wasn’t good at studying. I used to help her study back in the Rainpol Academy days.

She had been ill for a long time, barely able to move, so she couldn’t study during the most crucial period. As a result, she lacked the basics of studying.

“Well, I did think it was quite a feat that you got into the high academy with those grades.”

“T-that’s because you helped me study back then.”

“Don’t tell me you haven’t studied at all since entering the high academy?”

“Well… Crossing is… You know, they have a hands-off approach. And I didn’t know the entrance exam for Fensillon Academy would be this difficult.”

“Haha, should I teach you for a while?”

I thought that might be the reason, but Estelle shook her head.

“No, I won’t accept Ars’ help. I’ll prove myself on my own. What I want to ask is something else. Please tell Erina. Tell her that I’ll win in the Fensillon entrance exam!”

It seems she’s aiming high and planning to study hard.

“Erina may not look like it, but she’s quite good at studying. Are you sure you’ll be okay?”

“I’ll be fine. …Probably?”

Eonia, who’s determined to beat Lysithea, and Estelle, who’s trying to surpass Erina.

I decided to cheer, at least in my heart, for the success of the rebellion of the bottom duo.
