Chapter 31

From far away, beings that don’t belong in daylight appeared.

“They’ve come.”

I stored the revolver in my inventory. Let’s see. Red teeth would be a high-grade ghoul.

“Mister! That archer looks different from usual!” 

“You’re right.”

The one I saw before had deep eye sockets with flickering red flames, but now they’re green. It held a long bow made of bone in its hand. Beside it were the usual ghouls and archers.

Kang Ha-rin bit her lip with a tense face.

Even her hands were trembling.

“Miss Ha-rin, don’t be too scared. If you’ve raised your Stamina to 10, you won’t get seriously injured.” 

“Yeah…”

Kang Ha-rin answered with a still pale face.

“Tulip has grown a lot in a day.” 

“I need to get used to this quickly. This is how the world is now.” 

“Getting used to it is good, but don’t lose your tension.”

I continued speaking while throwing a glance at what appeared to be a high-grade archer.

“Moreover, that one hasn’t even been figured out yet. Intermediate ones had poison, but I have no idea what kind of crap the high-grade ones might have.”

My words made Tulip’s expression quite serious. 

I quickly searched through the Constellation Gallery for information.

[Title: Sharing info on high-grade archers] Similar to high-grade ghouls yup. Arrows have curses on them yup. Poison comes as a bonus lol. Plus they shoot three arrows at once lol.

 I might as well consider that I haven’t gained any information. 

The high-grade ghoul information that was posted last time was really spoon-fed to us.

And even that seemed to only tell part of the story. 

Especially from yesterday’s post, didn’t it say high-grade ones have different core locations?

 There’s nothing about that here.

‘Just post where the core is and stuff like that.’

That’s when it happened.

Even though they’re still far away, Tulip shot an arrow.

“What are you doing? Wasting arrows?” 

“I’m measuring the range in advance.”

It was a clear answer that left me speechless. 

Maybe I should check too.

It flew farther than Tulip’s arrow before falling. 

The fallen Manyō’s Tomb returned to my hand.

“I win.” 

“ARGH! Mister, you just raised your strength a lot, didn’t you? I didn’t raise mine and I can shoot that far.” 

“If you’re jealous, raise yours too.”

“What? No, you told me to save gold!” 

“Save to raise it.” 

“But, mister. I feel like my bow range is gradually increasing even though I haven’t raised anything?”

Tulip’s words made me tilt my head. 

She feels her range has increased without raising anything? Is there some kind of level effect?

I sighed looking at the Constellation Gallery.

“You two stay here.” 

“What?” 

“I just realized I don’t know why we should be waiting.”

And I immediately dashed out. 

Quickly closing the distance, I threw my blade like a boomerang.

The enemies were being cut down cleanly.

Then I ducked down just in time, because Manyō’s Tomb was coming back.

‘Shit. If I had tried to catch that, my wrist would have been cut off .’

Who knew the blade I threw like a boomerang would actually come back? The blade that flew all the way behind reappeared in my hand.

In the meantime, the distance had completely closed.

 I started to dance with my blade.

DING! DING! DING!

The sound of gold accumulating is delightful. Even in that moment, arrows are flying from all directions. I duck, lean back, and strike them away.

But perfect defense is still difficult. One shot, two shots, grazing my skin. But I’m already immune to the poison. 

The arrows of these creatures are just like a back scratcher hitting my itchy spots.

That’s when it happened.

Suddenly what? Oblivion Poison?

 My gaze naturally turned toward the high-grade archer.

 Is it that one? 

There’s no one else but that one. 

It’s pathetic to even question it.

‘Let me quickly deal with the remaining ones….’

With each blade swing, a red line is drawn. The crimson blood becomes paint, creating a picture in the air with Manyō’s Tomb as the brush.

“Ju-han! You can stop killing them now! We’ve got plenty of gold already!”

Despite Kang Ha-rin’s cry, I didn’t stop. I had no intention of leaving behind gold that had appeared before me.

BOOM!

Following the tremor in the ground, my gaze turns. The high-grade ghoul was jumping in. I lightly raised my blade.

Its head comes off easily. 

Unable to overcome inertia, the pungent blood splashed down on my head, on my face.

“Wow, you really were a piece of cake?”

Looking at the Pimuk I caught, this is nothing but a snail. Then I came to my senses.

“Right. I’m supposed to stab you here, right?”

Now only one remains. Only the high-grade archer.

While the Constellation Gallery was heating up. I looked at the last remaining high-grade archer.

It had already completely aimed at me. Three arrows fly at once.

I tilted my head slightly. The arrows pass by the side of my face. The sound of air being cut struck my ears.

“Too Slow.”

I rushed straight toward it. 

And then…

 In an instant, the head flew off and the body wobbled.

It collapsed.

‘They made such a fuss, but it’s nothing special.’

I shook off the blade. But something’s strange. The kill alert didn’t appear.

“Ah, shit. I knew this would happen.”

That high-grade ones each have different core locations. That just beheading them doesn’t kill them. I wondered if it might be false information, but it was true.

I looked at the creature’s corpse, no, its not-yet-dead body. Unlike the high-grade ghoul, it doesn’t pretend to be dead but wriggles around. I had no intention of waiting.

I took my blade and tore it to shreds. Once, then again. Arms, legs, torso. I cut it into pieces.

Still, no core in sight.

Still no kill alert.

“Shit, what is it?”

I clicked my tongue lightly and tightly gripped my blade. Just die already. Do I really have to go this far?

‘Strike of Judgment.’

My vision changed. The creature’s body became blurry, and a singular point appeared. 

At the same time, my hand, leaving my will, naturally stabbed that point. 

It was instantaneous.

STAB!

The split ribcage. Inside, a tiny core burst. And finally.

DING!

It was over.

 I put away my blade and collected the arrows. Not only the arrows from Intermediate archers but also the ones that triggered that strange “Oblivion Poison” alert.

This bastard, no, this dependable sponsor, who is it that keeps throwing large sums like this?

 I received a large sponsorship when I saved Tulip too, but it didn’t feel as burdensome as it does now.

‘Doing nothing and getting five digits thrown at me.’

Ah, maybe that’s the psychology they’re aiming for? That feeling like I should repay them for receiving so much.

Tulip and Kang Ha-rin greeted me with sparkling eyes as soon as I returned.

“This is a reward for a cunning person.”

I handed the arrows I’d collected to Tulip.

“Oh? This is a new poison?” 

“You can tell just by looking at it.” 

“Of course! This is a really terrifying one.” 

“Terrifying?”

Tulip nodded and began explaining about the ‘Oblivion Poison’.

‘I’m pretty sure it said the effect couldn’t be explained…’

I got goosebumps and couldn’t tell her to stop explaining.
