Chapter 11

Before going house-hunting, I took a bath and cleaned my body, which was completely covered in mud and sweat from a fierce battle.

Then I went out wearing a neat casual suit that I had purchased at the department store earlier.

My final goal is to create my own paradise on earth by combining several large islands located in the South Pacific.

Currently, small uninhabited islands in the South Pacific are usually traded around 8 billion won. As the island’s size increases, the price would jump significantly, but an appropriately sized small island would be around that price.

Of course, this is just the land value of the island itself, and building various facilities there would cost a fortune. If my heart’s desire could be fulfilled quickly, I would like to create a ‘Kang Shin-hwa Land’ with money in the billions, no, trillions. But if that were possible in a short time, I would have done it long ago.

For now, how I live currently is much more important. After all, the future can only exist if today exists

‘The underdeveloped area near Junghwa Station on Line 7 seems good. The prices are relatively cheap compared to other places, and it’s convenient for moving between Gangnam and Gangbuk.’

I decided to look for a house in the area I had already marked.

I wasn’t thinking about buying, just finding a suitable monthly rental.

A reasonably spacious apartment located on the top floor would be perfect.

The deposit was easily covered by the money I earned today, and I was confident I could afford the monthly rent as long as it wasn’t an astronomical amount.

Two hours later.

While looking around real estate near Junghwa Station, I discovered an apartment with good options.

Whether by coincidence or inevitability, the apartment was even named ‘Shin-hwa Areum Palace’.

Conveniently, a top-floor unit was available. While not quite a super luxurious penthouse, it came with usable furniture and various facilities as basic options, except for the bed.

In other words, all I needed to do was sign the lease.

There was an interesting point that an A-rank Awakener had lived here until a week ago, leaving their training facilities intact.

“Would you like me to restore the interior to its original state?” the real estate agent asked.

“No, that’s fine. I can see traces of thorough training. In fact, I’m quite interested,” I replied, shaking my head.

I enjoy home training, and even in my previous life, I mainly exercised at home. This place had exactly the kind of facilities I would want.

“Do you like it?” the agent asked.

“Yes, this is excellent. Since I don’t plan to stay long, let’s proceed with a one-year contract,” I said.

“The deposit will be quite high,” the agent noted.

“That’s not a problem. Money isn’t really an issue for me,” I answered casually.

It wasn’t bravado, but my genuine feeling. For me, the method of earning money was important, not whether I could earn it or not.

The contract proceeded smoothly.

Deposit: 1 billion won.

Monthly rent: 20 million won.

Considering the soaring prices in the White Zone, this was a relatively cheap contract.

Moreover, it wasn’t an ordinary apartment but a penthouse occupying the entire top floor.

The area was over 100 pyeong, with balconies on both sides offering a panoramic view of Seoul’s cityscape.

On days when I do nothing, there couldn’t be better conditions for lounging around.

‘I’ll live like this for a year. Later, when I earn more money, I’ll buy the entire Tower Palace in Dogok-dong or something.’

I smiled contentedly, imagining my future wealthy self that hasn’t arrived yet.

It wasn’t just a vain dream; I had concrete future plans in my mind.

All I need is for time to flow naturally. Preparations will proceed step by step.

“The unit is vacant. Would you like to move in right away? The move-in cleaning was done this morning,” the agent said.

“Sure,” I replied.

“You won’t regret this contract. Just in passing, everyone who’s lived in this apartment has been successful!” the agent added.

“Even if it’s just lip service, it sounds nice,” I said.

“Yes! I hope you succeed, sir,” the agent concluded warmly.

We finished the contract in a warm atmosphere. Though 1 billion won was deducted from my balance, I felt great.

It was a truly big reward for my past self, who used to nervously sleep in a single room in the Red Zone.

It was like a gift from my future self to my current self, just like in a movie or novel.

After completing the contract, I lay down on the warm marble floor and fell asleep.

The fatigue from the morning’s fierce battle suddenly overwhelmed me.

I fell into a deep sleep.

A sleep without dreams.

Until the sun in the mid-sky slowly set in the west, I slept soundly, unaware of the passing time.

* * *

Late afternoon.

After waking up, I quickly shopped for necessary items like lightning.

A bed that would be responsible for a third of the day’s sleep, a beam projector for watching my long-time hobby of movies, and a super notebook that’s excellent for various information searches!

I opted for the highest quality in everything.

It wasn’t an impulsive, thoughtless extravagance.

Sleep, leisure, and information gathering are very important for Awakeners and also welfare for myself.

‘Sometimes emotional luxury is okay, right? Nicholas will take care of preparing for the great disaster anyway.’

I had some trust in him.

In his previous life, Nicholas put in a lot of effort to build a global system to prepare for the disaster.

So even though he earned money like sweeping it up, he was extremely frugal.

He was so economical that he even reused disposable potion containers, earning criticism from his colleagues.

Anyway, for him, the greatest challenge on earth was preparing for the disaster, and money was a necessary means to that end.

But my priority is different from his – early retirement and building my own paradise on earth.

So there’s no need to feel guilty about occasionally buying luxury items or driving a nice sports car.

I returned home and immediately used my laptop to do some searches.

The first information I checked was the stock price of a company I vividly remembered from my memory.

[Gorim Chemical: KR710191]

[3,250]

[Down 1,390 from previous day]

[Decline rate -29.96%]

“That’s right. During this period, a CEO scandal caused bad news, and the stock hit the lower limit.”

I recalled memories about Gorim Chemical. The stock, which hit the lower limit before the Lunar New Year, continued to fluctuate up and down throughout February.

In February 2020, a leap year, Gorim Chemical was just an ordinary company until the 29th.

But on the morning of the 29th, Gorim Chemical made a public announcement that would surprise E-rank and lower Awakeners.

They successfully commercialized a drug that reduces the combat abilities of Cobolt, an F-rank monster, by over 50%. This was a drug that had received official sales approval from the Korean Awakeners Association.

“It precisely recorded daily upper limits, with the stock price jumping exactly six times. While speculative forces caused some volatility, it was a surge until then.”

The trading price, which had been around 3,000 won, repeatedly hit the upper limit and rose to 18,000 won.

While I don’t remember all stock information, I clearly recall the memory of a company like Gorim Chemical that caused a sensation.

“I just need to buy stocks by February 28th. There’s still over a month left, so I have plenty of time.”

Time was ample. Future investment knowledge was screaming in my mind, begging to be used!

But there’s an order to things. After securing a living space, the next important thing for me is equipment.

Magos challenged with confidence, but in fact, the preparation wasn’t perfectly complete.

I needed a top-tier reinforced suit that could protect my body as much as possible against rapidly changing dungeon situations and monster ambushes.

I know someone skilled in creating reinforced suits – an old man named  Hwang No-in, a true master craftsman.

His suits are expensive, but because they’re precisely tailored to the wearer’s body, their safety is 100 times higher than standardized supply suits.

I remember they were typically produced around 200 million won. Considering standard reinforced suits cost 20 million won, that’s a 10-fold price difference.

“You can’t buy life with money.”

If there’s one thing you should never scrimp on, it’s safety.

In my previous life, I saw too many Awakeners quickly heading to the afterlife while trying to save a few pennies.

A happy post-retirement life can only be enjoyed if you’re healthy; otherwise, you’ll end up in a nursing home.

“Since I’ll mainly be soloing, dungeon camping equipment is essential. Ideally, equipment that can establish a Safety Zone using dimensional stone cutting would be good.”

Dungeon camping equipment is necessary. Not just a space for eating and sleeping, but equipment that can buy time if monsters launch a surprise attack. A device that can form a defensive barrier for about 30 seconds to protect those sleeping inside is crucial.

Because dungeons always have variables.

These typically trade around 500 million won. With various options, it would be around 700 million won.

Of course, most Awakeners carry standard camping gear, just a regular tent. Porters would just waste their breath arguing.

“And I’ll need a gauntlet.”

I stared at my left arm.

By an old habit, I mainly used my right arm for physical transformations similar to weapons. When I killed Magos, I transformed my right arm.

So what was the left arm primarily used for?

Highly concentrated magical power and releasing it forward. A kind of magical shockwave.

The problem is that without separate equipment, using only the hand causes about 50% energy loss when generating a shockwave. An enormous waste of combat power.

To compensate, a gauntlet that protects the hand while allowing 100% utilization of condensed magical power is absolutely necessary. And it should be an artifact.

These three items were absolutely essential for me.

Without them, attempting dungeons above my rank level would become much riskier.

There’s a huge difference between a prepared adventure and an unprepared reckless attempt.

I want to thoroughly pursue the former! I don’t even want to dream of a life where I’m forcibly retired and become half-disabled in a dungeon.

“Preparing carefully now ensures a more prosperous future.”

A motto I adopted after numerous trials and errors in my previous life.

This remains unchanged now that I’ve returned. In fact, I must be even more meticulous and thorough in my preparations.
