I Killed the Demon King. It Was a Mistake.
Chapter 59
Harrison opened and closed his eyes slowly.
“I cannot access Lord Caesar’s assets either.”
“What do you mean by that?”
“According to my contract with Lord Caesar, I cannot access or execute his assets without Lord Caesar’s permission.”
“This isn’t fun, Harrison. If you want to receive a proper retirement package later, wouldn’t it be better to cooperate?”
“Then why don’t you go to Parker Bank directly to view the assets? You came to me because you couldn’t do that, right?”
Harrison put a cigar in his mouth.
And he crossed his legs arrogantly, just like Caesar.
“If you really want to view them, try convincing the Homigraph council members. They might have a way.”
Swoosh.
A sword came to Harrison’s neck.
It was Gideon’s sword.
“Don’t you know your head could fly for the crime of irreverence if you act so arrogantly in front of nobles?”
“This is not Vex Province. This is Wizard Province. There is no province law saying it’s disrespectful to smoke a cigar in front of nobles.”
“A knight’s duel is governed by Imperial law, which supersedes provincial law. Surely you must know that your life could be forfeit if I challenge you to a duel?”
“Then go ahead and try. But Lord Aldo, it seems you’re not controlling your dog very well. Drawing a sword without being ordered to. Even if it’s in front of fellow brothers, isn’t it too disrespectful to draw a sword in front of nobles?”
Eric smirked at Harrison’s words.
“You’ve got good eyes. Gideon has always been famous for being a mad dog who bares his teeth without thinking. Usually, a dog that bites anyone should be put down by its master.”
Gideon glared at Eric once before finally withdrawing his sword.
Aldo stood up from his seat.
“I’ll give you two days. If Caesar doesn’t show up by then, we’ll declare him dead and confiscate his assets, so keep that in mind.”
“According to Homigraph law, declaring a missing person dead requires 2 weeks from the date of disappearance.”
“Caesar was born in Vex Province. He should follow Vex Province law.”
“According to Imperial law, province law is determined by the resident’s location. So it’s 2 weeks.”
Harrison cut his cigar.
“After 2 weeks pass, I’ll cooperate then.”
Eric nodded.
“Well, might as well take it as a vacation until then. Brother, do rest well.”
“…”
Aldo glared at Harrison before speaking.
“You’d better hope Caesar returns by then. Otherwise, I’ll make sure to punish you for your insolent attitude.”
Aldo left while patting Eric’s shoulder, and Eric whispered quietly while looking at Harrison.
“Don’t forget that I helped you once.”
When the study was empty, Harrison let out a deep sigh.
“Lord Caesar, where on earth are you…”

Gregory had been smoking cigars more frequently lately.
“Only today do I realize that even that man of steel was mortal.”
Miles also lit a cigar.
“It was Andromalius, the Demon of Flaying, not just any demon. It’s strange that Lord Joseph even survived.”
“Why did Lord Joseph live while Lord Caesar went missing? I don’t understand.”
Miles exhaled cigar smoke before speaking.
“If by any chance Lord Caesar is dead, what kind of aftermath do you think there will be regarding this customs bill?”
“Nothing except public security.”
Public security.
While it’s currently a problem in almost every city, it’s barely an issue in Homigraph.
Not only did Caesar clean up all the major mafia organizations in Homigraph, but his enlightenment of corrupt police officers and civil servants also had a big impact.
In conclusion, it wasn’t expected that public security would face major issues even without Caesar.
“Then there won’t be any problems?”
“You’re quite calm about this.”
“Rather, it’s Councilman Walterwood who’s being sensitive. Knights originally die protecting their lords and innocent people. Lord Caesar also died protecting citizens from demons, and that’s all there is to it.”
Miles inhaled cigar smoke and exhaled it like a sigh.
“But I still feel uneasy all the same. There have been few people in my life who left such a strong impression on me.”

Two weeks had passed since Caesar’s disappearance, and sure enough, Eric and Aldo appeared.
Harrison bit his lip as he watched the two men enter the yard.
Jake looked at Harrison and said.
“…What should we do?”
“I don’t know either.”
Though they managed to hold out for two weeks, there was no way to stop them now.
Eric said with a grin.
“Two weeks have passed as promised. I hope you don’t have any other excuses prepared?”
Harrison closed his eyes.
“…No.”
“Good. I was worried you might try to make things messy again. Then…”
“No.”
It wasn’t Harrison who spoke.
Eric, Aldo, and Gideon looked toward the house.
A woman was walking out to the yard after opening the door of Caesar’s house.
“Who are you?”
“Gloria Bellum. Lord Caesar’s personal disciple.”
At the mention of Bellum, Eric and Aldo’s expressions stiffened.
The Bellum Viscount family has close ties with the Arch Duke family.
If she’s their youngest daughter, even Baron Sylvatil couldn’t treat her carelessly.
Gloria planted her bastard sword in the ground and spoke.
“Harrison, as far as I know, a disciple can claim inheritance rights to their master’s property. Is that correct?”
At Gloria’s words, Harrison’s mind was struck like lightning.
“That’s correct. There have been cases where disciples inherited their master’s sword and armor. There are such precedents in the Homigraph court.”
Gloria glared at Eric and Aldo as she spoke.
“Therefore, I officially claim inheritance rights to Lord Caesar’s property here and now.”
Aldo shouted in disbelief.
“You think that makes any sense…!”
“Brother!”
“What?!”
Eric felt frustrated with his ignorant brother.
Eric approached Aldo and whispered.
“You fool of a brother. Don’t you know if we say no here, she’ll officially request a trial, and then it’ll take forever to confiscate the property? She came here deliberately planning this.”
Gideon, who was behind them, also nodded.
“That’s right, Lord Aldo. It would be best to give her a portion here.”
Aldo bit his lip.
“Fine. I acknowledge that you also have inheritance rights. Then what do you want?”
“Everything.”
“…What did you say?”
“I said I’m claiming inheritance rights to all of Lord Caesar’s property.”
Eric sighed.
The worst-case scenario he had imagined was unfolding.
Aldo was highly agitated.
“You think that makes any sense?!”
“Why do you think it doesn’t?”
“Isn’t it just common sense?”
“I’d like you to explain what you mean by common sense in a way I can understand.”
“Caesar and we are connected by blood! But you only received education from Caesar for about a month, isn’t that all? Do you think someone like that can claim rights to all the property?”
“Then let’s settle this in court. I’ll make the official request.”
“You…!”
At that moment, Gideon stepped forward and spoke.
“Does the Bellum Viscount family know about this matter?”
“This has nothing to do with Viscount Bellum. This is solely between my master and me.”
“Then you are an aspiring knight?”
“That’s also correct. Why do you ask?”
Gideon spoke to Aldo.
“Historically, when problem-solving was difficult or time-consuming, issues were resolved through fair duels. Miss Gloria may not be a knight, but she is an aspiring knight, and moreover, she’s a noble, so she should understand honor.”
“Ah!”
Aldo seemed to understand what Gideon was saying.
“Ahem! Although you’re not a knight, as a noble who understands honor, I believe you are qualified for a duel. To resolve this property dispute, I wish to challenge Caesar’s disciple Gloria to a duel. Do you accept?”
Harrison was disgusted by the shamelessness of the two brothers and Gideon.
They must be contributing to the decline of noble authority.
Gloria drew her sword.
“I accept.”
Gloria had anticipated this response and had brought her sword for the duel.
Aldo couldn’t hide his smile.
Once this matter was resolved, there would be no chance of that cursed younger brother getting any of the property.
“Then I choose my official champion, Sir Gideon, for this duel. Do you have a champion?”
“I…”
“Of course she does.”
Just then, a familiar voice was heard from behind.
Step, step.
“A man carrying five huge bags made his way through the crowd.
Thud!
As the bags fell in the yard, a man with blood-red eyes drew his axe.
“I, Caesar Sylvatil, Gloria’s master. I am Gloria’s champion.”
Everyone, including Aldo, Eric, and Gideon, couldn’t hide their shock, clearly not having expected this situation.
“Lord Caesar!”
Only Harrison, Gloria, and the household staff were showing joy.
Gloria even ran and threw herself into Caesar’s embrace.
“What’s this grown woman doing? Can’t you see this is a very serious situation?”
“Waaaaaah.”
“W-what? Are you crying?”
“If-if you were alive, you could have at least sent a letter! Why did you make people worry so much! You terrible person!!!”
You were a mafia boss.
Is this something to cry about just because someone disappeared for two weeks?
This doesn’t match your character at all!
Harrison and Jake also shed tears as they spoke.
“Miss Gloria is right. Why didn’t you contact us even once?”
“There were circumstances. Actually, I didn’t expect it to take this long.”
“Couldn’t you have thought to send even one letter?”
“I didn’t think there would be such an uproar just because I disappeared for two weeks. Well, I’ll send letters next time.”
Caesar wiped Gloria’s ugly crying face with a handkerchief and patted her shoulder.
“Let’s clear out the pests first, then we can have a tearful reunion party or whatever.”
Caesar cracked his neck as he looked at Aldo and Eric.
“Three years… No, it’s been four years now. Can’t you even say you’re glad to see your brother who’s returned alive after four years? My dear brothers?”
Aldo, who had been reading the atmosphere, opened his mouth.
“…Welcome back. Are you unharmed?”
“As you can see, I’m fine. By the way, since I came in partway through, why don’t you explain why you challenged my dear disciple to a duel?”
Aldo’s face turned as red as a tomato.
With his green hair, he really looked like a fresh tomato.
“Well, that’s…”
Gideon stepped forward.
“If you had just let us know you were alive…”
“Bastard, stay out of this. Can’t you see I’m having a one-on-one talk with my eldest brother? Who are you to interrupt?”
At Caesar’s words, Gideon’s expression instantly hardened.
“…You’ve changed a lot over the past four years, young master.”
“Yeah. You can’t help but change after going through that hell. Why does someone who was sitting comfortably at home eating hot meals while I was rolling around the battlefield shitting blood have so much to say?”
Caesar clapped his hands and said.
“Ah! Are you worried our brother might misspeak because of his stutter? If you can’t even speak properly at age 35, you should give up the successor position. Isn’t that right, brother?”
Aldo spoke while trembling.
“I-I don’t have a st-stutter!”
“You’re stuttering right now, brother.”
“H-how dare you insult me now? You may be a knight, but you’re a bastard and I’m legitimate! I’m the one who will inherit the baron title!”
“So are you a baron now?”
“…What?”
“I’m asking if you’re a baron now. I’ll treat you like a baron after you get your title. Until then, you’re nothing to me. You idiot.”
“Y-you really want to make an enemy of House Sylvatil?!”
“What can you do to me if I do? Excommunicate me? What would change for me?”
Caesar slowly approached Aldo.
“When I made a name for myself as the Axe of Homigraph, did House Sylvatil send a congratulatory letter? Or when I went to Dre and made my reputation as the Demon Slayer by killing demons, did you send me money to buy something nice? My reputation, my house, and my money, I earned every single thing through my own power, not because I was a member of House Sylvatil.”
Caesar slowly approached Aldo.
Aldo lifted his head high trying not to show fear, but his expression became even stiffer, clearly showing ‘I’m scared’.
“If you remove me from the family register, does that reputation disappear? Do my power, reputation, and connections disappear? To be honest, I don’t know about Vex Province, but here in Wizard Province, my influence is probably stronger than House Sylvatil’s. Want to have a connection battle if you doubt it? Huh?!”
Aldo’s body stiffened under Caesar’s ‘pressure’.
At that moment, Gideon stepped forward.
“Young Master Caesar. That’s enough.”
“Right. Sir Gideon. Since our brother has a stutter, he seems to have trouble explaining this situation. Why don’t you explain, Sir Gideon? Why did you try to duel my disciple?”
“…There was just a minor dispute regarding the distribution of Young Master Caesar’s assets.”
“My assets? Ah, you thought I was dead. Because there was no contact for two weeks.”
“…That’s correct.”
Caesar laughed in disbelief.
“Shouldn’t inheritance disputes happen after the funeral? That’s basic human decency, you shameless ones. And of all people, you challenge Viscount Bellum’s youngest daughter to a duel? Do you have any sense at all?”
“Miss Gloria herself declared she has nothing to do with Viscount Bellum.”
“You think that means Viscount Bellum won’t be angry? Viscount Bellum is one of the few who can meet Arch Duke directly. Do you think you can go home safely after putting a scratch on the face of such a powerful person’s youngest daughter? This is Wizard Province, not Vex Province. If you’re going to cause trouble, do it in your own front yard, not someone else’s.”
Gideon was left speechless.
Caesar looked at the blonde hair.
It was his second brother Eric.
“Ah, I just noticed you were here too, Brother Eric.”
“…Yeah.”
“Does it bother you that a bastard son is acting up?”
“…What?”
“Why? Be honest. You don’t like how I’m openly disrespecting our brother, right?”
