I Killed the Demon King. It Was a Mistake. Chapter 27

I killed the Demon King. It was a mistake.

Chapter 27

Caesar shook hands with Joseph.

“Nice to meet you. I’m Joseph, a demon exterminator who serves the benevolent Goddess Dre.”

“Nice to meet you. I’m Caesar Sylvatil.”

How should I describe Joseph’s first impression?

Isn’t there a character you often see in comics?

He’s very sturdy, smiles well, eats a lot, and works hard – the number one son-in-law candidate that village elders are aiming for.

That’s right.

He’s exactly like a country bumpkin type.

Shall we take a look at what’s inside his mind?

-To recover from aura exhaustion in just four days. He must have been born quite robust.

-If he comes to serve Goddess Dre, he could be greatly useful.

-It would have been better if he used a greatsword instead of an axe… But that can be changed gradually.

‘What’s this.’

Why is this guy targeting me?

You… Don’t tell me you’re here to…

No, are you here to evangelize?

I don’t see any ulterior motives, but I don’t want to get close at all.

The nun next to him opened her mouth.

“Nice to meet you, Sir Caesar. I’m Tina, serving the pure Goddess Royder.”

Her face is too beautiful to be hidden as a nun.

Even with the black veil that applies a ‘not pretty’ debuff, she’s this beautiful.

If we changed her into a white dress and dressed her up a bit, everyone would nod if we introduced her as a saint.

Caesar quickly let go of Joseph’s hand and extended his hand to Tina.

“Nice to meet you. I’m Caesar. I’m deeply indebted to you.”

“It’s nothing. Rather, we should all be grateful for what Sir Caesar has done.”

She even speaks so beautifully.

Shall we take a look at what’s inside her mind too?

-I haven’t had many chances to experiment with tank knights… It’s a shame he left after just three days.

-I’d like to poke around his insides with a stake, not just his skin or hair…

Caesar let go of her hand in shock.

“What’s wrong?”

“Ah, it’s nothing. Must have been static electricity.”

I wondered why such a pure woman was doing such harsh work like an inquisitor…

This woman is a severe psychopath.

I’ve met countless socialized psychopaths hiding their base desires, but I’ve never seen such a beautiful psychopath before.

‘She’s the number one person to be wary of.’

I’ll have to be a bit more cautious about making deals until I understand what mechanism Tina has been living by.

If I’m not careful, I might get backstabbed.

“Please, have a seat. I’m not sure if the tea and refreshments I’ve prepared will suit your taste.”

Caesar and the two sat facing each other.

Joseph and Tina tasted the tea and their eyes widened in surprise.

“It’s been a while since I’ve had such high-quality black tea. Don’t you agree, Sir Joseph?”

“Indeed. It’s been about 3-4 years.”

Caesar took a sip of tea and said,

“Those mafia bastards had been messing with all the tea coming into Homigraph. But that won’t happen anymore.”

“Really? Why is that?”

“I’ve decided to involve myself with most of the tea coming into Homigraph. As long as I’m in Homigraph, there will absolutely be no one messing with the tea.”

“That’s wonderful news.”

Even better news is that Vito had raised the tea prices in Homigraph so much that even if I markup the price 2-3 times, people praise me while shedding tears.

Money is just!

Money is just pouring down from the sky!

I’m rich now!

“I’ll especially take thorough care of the tea going into the Dre and Royder orders.”

“Thank you. Now we can enjoy our tea with peace of mind.”

Good, I’ve secured two business partners.

If I advertise that it’s tea supplied to religious orders, sales will double.

Maybe I have a talent for business too?

The atmosphere has heated up, so shall we slowly reveal our cards now?

I didn’t invite these precious people just to have a tea tasting session.

First, my business.

“By the way, may I know how you disposed of the body of the demon I caught?”

“Ah, that’s right.”

Joseph took out a small document from his chest.

“This is a contract stating that the unicorn-type demon Sir Caesar caught will be handed over to the Dre order.”

Caesar quickly scanned the contract while listening to Joseph’s explanation.

“Anyway, within the Empire, only the Dre order, the Royder order, and the Empire itself can dispose of demon bodies. It’s impossible for individuals to do so.”

“So what exactly is the compensation? It’s not written here.”

“That’s what we’re going to discuss now. To be honest, I’m not sure what Sir Caesar wants.”

Caesar used psychometry on the contract.

-Money is meaningless.

-I heard that Sir Caesar already has a lot of money.

-Instead, repairing his damaged weapon or buying him a new one would be good.

-Or I could take him as my disciple. It would be best if he became my disciple, if possible…

For now, I like Joseph’s attitude towards Caesar.

He’s not just casually handing over money with an eat and get lost attitude, but he’s ready to listen and grant what Caesar wants.

‘Of course, it’s uncomfortable that he keeps trying to make me a holy knight.’

Caesar has no intention whatsoever of becoming a holy knight.

If you become a holy knight, you have to live a life of celibacy, and how would that be possible?

Absolutely not.

“Doesn’t the Royder Order want the demon’s body?”

“We’re not particularly interested in the body of a unicorn-type demon.”

“I see.”

I tried to subtly create some competition, but it failed spectacularly.

If that’s the case, then there’s no choice.

“I’d like to repair my weapon.”

“Hmm…”

Joseph stroked his beard and said,

“Is there a reason you insist on an axe?”

“After experiencing actual combat, I realized that an axe suits me better than a sword. That’s all.”

“Hmm…”

Joseph tapped the table and then spoke.

“It’s hard to say without seeing you fight, but a greatsword is quite an attractive weapon too. If you’re aiming for a classic knight type, it’s hard to find a better weapon.”

“Unfortunately, I’m not aiming for a classic knight type. To be precise, I’m aiming for a hybrid type that combines tank and technique types.”

“Hybrid? I’ve never heard of such a thing.”

“Isn’t it the mission of knights and young people to pioneer paths that no one has taken before? I’ve even recruited an alchemist to help with my ideal, so I intend to see it through to the end.”

“Hmm…”

Joseph kept stroking his chin and then spoke.

“Have you ever thought about becoming a holy knight? Dre might have prepared a path for you.”

“I’ve heard that Goddess Dre doesn’t discriminate between farmers and knights. Everyone has a path that suits them, arranged by her. I believe the path I’m walking is the one Goddess Dre has arranged for me.”

“Don’t you think that you and I meeting today is also Dre’s arrangement?”

“I think it’s an arrangement, but I don’t think it’s about becoming a holy knight. Instead, I dare to guess that Dre will entrust me with a great task through you, Sir Joseph.”

“Huh…”

So just give up already, you bastard.

Dre or whatever, the god I believe in is the one who tells me to pay less in offerings.

It’d be even better if they told me not to pay at all.

“It’s not easy to meet a knight with such deep faith…”

Tina said with a smile,

“That must be why Sir Caesar was able to exterminate the demon.”

“Indeed, to kill a demon with a weapon that hasn’t been anointed… As Lady Tina said, it seems he killed the demon using his sincere faith in the goddess as a weapon.”

Am I the only one who’s not used to this?

It feels like I’ve gone to church for the first time with a friend and ended up having coffee with the evangelist and the pastor.

Tina chuckled and said,

“By the way, you mentioned recruiting an alchemist. Are you taking any potions?”

“Yes, that’s right. I took a potion made from black twin-headed snakes obtained from the demon realm.”

“Black twin-headed snakes… So that’s why your skin was so tough and firm.”

“…How did you know my skin was firm?”

“Well, that… No, when I tried to insert needles to administer potions, they wouldn’t go in at all. So instead, all I could do was pray every night.”

“Are you saying you nursed me every night?”

“Yes, of course. Although I’m an inquisitor, I usually work as a nursing nun.”

…What on earth did you do to me during the three days I was unconscious?

Wait, does that mean you changed my underwear too?

If you did anything weird to my thing, you better be prepared to have an axe stuck in your head, nun or not.

“By the way, don’t you remember me?”

“Huh? Aren’t we meeting for the first time?”

“This is our second time.”

Sweat trickled down Caesar’s spine.

Damn, I never expected to meet someone the old Caesar knew here.

“I have a bad memory… I’m really sorry.”

“Well, that’s understandable. You jumped out of the third floor in your underwear as soon as you woke up.”

“Huh?”

Caesar finally realized.

“Could it be you were the nursing nun in that hospital room back then…?”

“Yes. I guess you didn’t recognize me because I was wearing a white nurse uniform instead of a veil then.”

That’s a relief.

If she had said she was Caesar’s ex-girlfriend or a nun he met in Vex Province, it would have been really troublesome.

Although I’ve absorbed quite a lot of Caesar’s memories, due to the nature of psychometry, if the time and target I want to know aren’t precise, I can’t absorb the memories.

At least I’m not at the point where I can’t recognize parents’ or siblings’ faces… But I should probably search through Caesar’s memories more often just in case.

Joseph was shocked.

“So the pervert… Ahem! The person who caused an uproar in Homigraph today was Sir Caesar?”

“That’s right. Hehe.”

No, wait.

This is not the time to feel relieved.

I’ve essentially run around in my underwear in front of an inquisitor.

I really can’t complain even if I get oiled up and roasted whole.

“I’m really sorry. I suddenly remembered something urgent.”

“These things happen. I thought it was because I had given you some strange medicine.”

“…Didn’t you say you only prayed?”

“Ah. That was a joke.”

Look into my eyes.

You weren’t joking at all, were you?

What on earth did you feed me!

“Anyway, the Royder Order doesn’t intend to interrogate Sir Caesar about this incident. So don’t worry.”

“…Thank you.”

“If rumors spread that Sir Caesar, who slaughtered a demon, was running around inside the Royder Church in his underwear, it would be quite troublesome for us too. Hoho.”

If I continue this conversation topic, I think my head will go crazy.

Let’s quickly change the subject.

“Then, in exchange for handing over the demon to the Dre Order, would it be alright if I received free weapon repairs and some upgrades?”

“Let’s do that. Ah, since we’re at it, how about visiting the Blacksmith Village?”

“By Blacksmith Village… Do you mean the ‘Shalibi’ village in Dre Province?”

“That’s right. I don’t need to explain the skills of the Shalibi blacksmiths, do I? Take a leisurely trip there and think about what I proposed.”

Your intentions are impure, Joseph.

But it’s an excellent proposal nonetheless.

The blacksmiths of Shalibi are really famous for their skills.

To give you an idea, even the ‘Wilderness’ used by Barre, the ‘Nameless’ used by Yan, and the ‘Kingfisher’ used by Mitchell were all made by the blacksmiths there.

Moreover, since they make and supply all the weapons and armor used by the holy knights following the Dre Order, the quality is reliable.

‘I should entrust the axe to the blacksmith who made Wilderness.’

Caesar nodded.

“I understand.”

Joseph picked up his pen and added the details of the deal he had with Caesar to the contract.

It stated that the Dre Order would cover the axe repair costs up to 100,000 Del.

This saved quite a bit of money.

Caesar also signed after reviewing the contract contents.

“Ah, take this. If you carry this around, it will be extremely useful in Dre Province.”

Joseph handed Caesar a pendant in the shape of a blue flame.

“Is it alright for you to give me something this valuable?”

“It’s because you’re Sir Caesar.”

“Well, this is… I’ll use it well and return it.”

This pendant, known as the emblem of the blue flame, can be seen as a symbol of religious power.

If you show this to anyone in Dre Province, they’ll treat you like a noble, you won’t have to pay the usual offerings, and if you get into any trouble, the Dre Church will take care of it for you.

He probably wants me to experience the power of a holy knight… But I’ll never become a holy knight.

I’ll enjoy all the power it offers and then return it.

Tina took out a small document from her bag and said,

“Now, shall we get to the main point?”

As expected, there’s more to this.

Caesar adjusted his posture and said,

“What is it?”

“Do you know why Gilbert became a demon this time?”

There could be several answers, but after pondering for a moment, Caesar found an appropriate response.

“Isn’t it because he used too much magic with an ordinary person’s body?”

Joseph and Tina looked at Caesar as if slightly surprised.

“Most people wouldn’t even be able to access that information. How did you know?”

“The Sylvatil Viscount family suffered greatly from the Demon of Plague 120 years ago. So I know a bit about it.”

“Come to think of it, Sir Caesar’s hometown was in Vex Province, wasn’t it?”

“Yes, that’s right.”

The Demon of Plague.

One of the great demons that often appear in the game and the demon with the most horns ever discovered.

The number of horns the Demon of Plague had was a whopping 9.

The Demon of Plague once occupied all of Vex Province and even half of Dre and Royder Provinces.

To give you an idea of how powerful this demon was, the ‘Pope’, the highest authority of the Dre Order, fled to Gold Mile Province out of fear, and the ‘Saint’ of the Royder Order died because of it.

“I understand. Then our conversation will be quicker.” Tina showed a photograph. “Do you know about this drug?”

Caesar stroked his chin as he looked at the photo Tina showed.

It showed a drug bottle labeled ‘Bufonemi’ lying on a shabby desk.

“No, I’ve never heard of it.”

Actually, I do know.

“This is a drug that turns humans into demons. Gilbert used this recently.”

Caesar pretended to look at the photo with a serious expression.

‘This is too fast.’

This is a drug that starts appearing in earnest in the main story of the game during the mid to late stages.

Right now, we’ve just passed the middle of the game story.

How on earth is this already circulating?
