I Killed the Demon King. It Was a Mistake. Chapter 157

I Killed the Demon King. It was a mistake.

Chapter 157

Caesar saw Raven apologizing for the first time in his life.

Even when he lived with Barre, Raven was always right, and even when she was wrong, she never revealed her own mistakes due to pride.

Others also didn’t try to expose or make an issue of Raven’s mistakes.

Most of the time, people didn’t even know what mistakes Raven had made, and even if they discovered something, there was a strong tendency to keep quiet because Raven was the next tower master of Gale Magic Tower and a great wizard.

Therefore, for Caesar, seeing Raven apologize was beyond novelty, it was bizarre.

“I’m sorry as well. If I had known about the relationship between Raven and Lord Mitchell beforehand, I wouldn’t have been rude to Raven.”

“That was a correct judgment. Everyone can see that Mitchell and I are on good terms. So let’s stop the apologies.”

Raven drank tea to hide her reddened face.

“Ouch!”

Of course, she ended up burning her lips in the process.

Caesar handed Raven a handkerchief, and Raven accepted it with an even more embarrassed expression.

“…Thank you.”

After wiping her mouth with the handkerchief, Raven spoke.

“Ahem! So, what are your plans?”

“I actually came here because of that very issue.”

Caesar took out a golden dagger and placed it on the table.

“While I’m on a reconnaissance mission, I want to transfer command of the wizards to you.”

“…To me?”

“Yes. Raven, you’re not particularly close to Lord Mitchell, nor are you intimate with Margrave Elijah. There’s no one more neutral than you.”

Although a temporary truce had been reached through Caesar’s mediation, just moments ago, Mitchell was trying to attack Elijah, and Elijah was also preparing for Mitchell’s plan.

In this situation where a single wrong move could reignite the civil war, Raven was the only one who could protect the wizards.

“…You came here to give me this from the beginning.”

“Yes, that’s correct.”

“What would you have done if I were close to Mitchell?”

“I would have moved the wizards to Luxhope and then gone on my mission. First, we need to get out of the civil war’s sphere of influence.”

“In other words, you had no other alternative.”

“Well, yes.”

Raven stared at the dagger, lost in thought.

Could she properly manage the wizards while Caesar was gone?

Did she even have the qualifications?

She thought about it from every angle, but the answer was always the same.

She must do it, even if she couldn’t.

Raven gripped the golden dagger.

“I will manage well until Lord Caesar returns.”

“Thank you.”

“But don’t exceed 3 weeks under any circumstances.”

Raven tucked the golden dagger into her chest.

“Because if you don’t show up for 3 weeks, this command will be transferred.”

“Come to think of it, there was such a special provision.”

By law, if the person holding imperial command goes missing for more than 3 weeks, the imperial command passes to someone else.

In Caesar’s case, it was set to pass to the current allied commander, ‘Elijah’.

He had heard that this special provision arose from the dissatisfaction of some generals and nobles who had been unable to use wizards for a long time due to the crown prince’s prolonged seclusion.

The Redfield family had probably raised a big fuss about it.

“I will absolutely return within that time.”

Having resolved the command issue, Caesar flew in the sky on Whitey, feeling light-hearted.

“Dobby is free!” [TL/N: Harry Pothead reference which I am referencing to Billy&Mandy]]

Oh, those damned guys!

If you’re soldiers, then fight a war like soldiers instead of playing politics!

I wish I could just be physically exhausted instead of dealing with these headaches.

Caesar looked at the clouds illuminated by the reddish moonlight.

The clouds were moving in unison from east to west, like well-trained soldiers.

Damn, it looks like rain is about to fall again.

Caesar began looking for a place to land.

“Found it.”

Caesar discovered a perfectly round clearing in the middle of the densely wooded beast people forest, as if a patch had been cut out.

But the clearing already had occupants.

Caesar glided Whitey as quietly as possible.

“It’s them.”

Orcs creatures with a single black horn protruding from their heads were visible.

These were the black horn tribe that Arang had mentioned.

Occasionally, goblins could be seen, but most were Orcs.

The peculiar thing was the presence of beast people among them.

The beast people were huddled together like dust in a corner of a house, resting their weary bodies.

‘So it’s true that they’ve enslaved the beast people.’

Caesar assessed the situation.

First, these creatures were sleeping without setting up any guard.

This meant there were no more potential attackers of the black horn tribe in the beast people forest.

There were approximately 100 of them, and true to orc nature, they were sprawled on the ground without properly setting up tents.

In the center, there was a properly erected tent with a yellow flag fluttering.

Among the Orc, a yellow flag signified a single ‘village’ and was not typically used under a red flag.

But when separated like now, they used the yellow flag.

This meant there were no other black horn tribe members nearby.

“Hmm…”

Caesar honestly didn’t know how strong the black horn tribe was.

It wasn’t even in the game as a special case.

But the situation looked too good.

They were completely off-guard, sleeping, and scattered.

If he launched a surprise attack, couldn’t he kill them all?

‘No. Don’t be reckless.’

It would be foolish to fight without properly assessing the enemy’s combat power.

He had found their location, so he could set up nearby and observe their activity patterns.

“Hm?”

A strange movement was detected in the forest.

Hidden by the densely packed trees, when viewed from a low altitude, something was sparkling like fireflies.

While fireflies did exist in the demon realm, they typically didn’t inhabit such dense forests.

So what could these be?

Beast people.

From red fox beast people to gray wolf and mountain tigers, they quietly emerged from the forest and headed to the clearing.

They were so silent that the sleeping Orcs  creatures didn’t detect any sign of their approach.

They drew prepared daggers right at the creatures’ necks and then…

Phew!

Mercilessly stabbed the daggers into their throats.

“—-!”

If these were humans, they would have died without moving a finger.

However, despite the daggers in their throats, the creatures twisted their entire bodies and caused a commotion.

The fact that they didn’t scream was likely because the daggers were properly lodged in their windpipes.

The beast people didn’t stop there and strongly pulled the daggers to sever the creatures’ necks.

No matter how devilized  the orcs were, they couldn’t survive with more than two-thirds of their neck cut off.

But due to the creatures’ thrashing, the sleeping black horn tribe members were awakened.

“Attack!”

The beast people simultaneously used magic to burn and crush the half-dreaming Black Horn tribe.

The mountain tigers quickly dug holes with rock magic, dropping the enemies into these holes and then covering them with earth.

The wolf beast people burst the wind, blinding and deafening the Black Horn tribe members who were trying to rise.

Finally, the fox beast people used illusion magic to multiply their numbers more than threefold, causing confusion.

Naturally, the Black Horn tribe was swept away without even mounting a proper resistance.

But the beast people expressions were not good.

“Quickly evacuate our fellow tribesmen! Hurry!”

The beast people knew this situation would not last long.

While young beast people were guiding the captured beast people, a massive troll burst out by breaking through the tent.

The troll had two horns on its head, and notably, it was holding a skull staff in its hand.

“Warriors! Heaven shall descend upon this place!”

The black energy flowing from the troll’s skull staff seeped into the dying Black Horn tribe members.

Then, the Black Horn tribe members who seemed definitely dead, with necks more than half cut off, began to move.

Wounds that were cut and crushed were rapidly filled with flesh and bone, as if a potion had been used.

An orc whose neck was twisted 90 degrees was regenerating with the neck still bent.

A goblin with spilled intestines rose with its guts hanging out.

An orc with broken knee joints stood up with its legs still twisted.

“Everyone run away!”

The beast people who had attacked with such momentum now judged they had no chance of winning and began to flee with all their might.

Caesar, watching this entire scene, muttered in disbelief:

“What an impossible ability.”

Black fanatics began rushing towards the beast people.

“Uuuuuuuugh!”

The Black Horn tribe members ran like zombies using their bizarrely regenerated limbs.

And they were incredibly fast.

They caught up to the fleeing beast people in an instant and drove clubs and axes into their spines and legs.

“Aaaaaargh!”

The beast people caught while escaping were brutally torn apart.

The beast people tried to buy time somehow by using magic.

However, the Black Horn tribe members under the troll’s strange curse continued to charge, drooling blood-mixed saliva, seemingly unable to feel pain even when their bodies were burning, falling into holes, or having limbs broken.

They even seemed to have high magic resistance, barely taking any damage from magical attacks.

Orcs creatures that don’t fear death are already terrifying, and now they don’t even die.

Now one could understand why the beast people had to give up their forest to the Black Horn tribe.

Caesar carefully assessed the situation.

The reason for their strange movements was the troll’s curse.

So, wouldn’t killing this troll solve everything?

Let’s try it.

Caesar lifted Thunder and Lefty from his saddle.

And then jumped.

Whoooooosh!

Caesar’s red hair flashed in the red moonlight.

Piercing the humid sky and falling to the ground, he looked like a burning shooting star.

Caesar screamed:

“Our waaaaaaaay!”

Berserker double stack.

Caesar’s body swelled, and the aura circulating inside him injected unimaginable strength into his muscles.

Exhaling white smoke, Caesar swung his axe towards the troll.

The moment the troll saw Caesar coming, it raised its staff.

Avoiding the attack was impossible.

Kwaaaaaaang!

Caesar’s axe collided with the staff.

Although he didn’t know what the staff was made of, surprisingly, it withstood Caesar’s axe.

It didn’t seem to be made of ordinary bone.

However, the troll’s two arms could not withstand Caesar’s axe.

Crack!

The troll’s shoulders were not just dislocated but crushed, and its wrists lost strength.

Eventually, it dropped the staff.

Without the staff, there was nothing that could block Caesar’s axe.

Caesar’s Thunder split the creature’s skull vertically.

Even its hard skull could not withstand Caesar’s axe.

Its body collapsed, instantly split into three pieces.

But Caesar did not let his guard down.

The troll’s regenerative ability was truly beyond imagination.

It could regenerate limbs that were cut off in almost a minute.

Of course, with the body so thoroughly destroyed, regeneration would be impossible, but this was not an ordinary troll.

It was a devil troll.

Black energy flowed from the staff and gathered around the three pieces of the troll.

The black energies that had been making the half-dead orcs move also escaped and converged on the troll.

The orcs, having lost their black energy, fell and died with a crack sound.

Instead, the troll’s fragmented body began to stick together as it received the black energy.

“Oh ho.”

Now he understood why the beast people didn’t carpet bomb this tent.

As long as this troll had its staff, it could not be killed no matter how hard one tried.

The troll quickly regenerated and screamed at Caesar:

“Uuuuuuuugh!”

Caesar swung his axe at it again.

The troll did not dodge the axe flying towards it.

Instead, it threw a punch towards Caesar’s head.

Perhaps because it was confident it could regenerate even if its body was cut.

Caesar twisted the axe’s direction and split the troll’s forearm.

The severed forearm flew through the air, then was caught by the black energy and flew back to reattach to the troll.

“Huh.”

He could only let out a bitter laugh.

It was like watching a biological Iron Man.

Normally, a troll would regenerate by having flesh and bone slowly rise at the cut surface when a body part is severed.

Not like this, where severed limbs fly back and reattach.

Caesar looked at the staff lying on the ground.

‘That’s the problem.’

The black energy flowing from that staff.

It must be the driving force making the troll and orcs move.

Caesar decided to conduct an experiment.

He took out the holy oil tied to his waist, hooked his left tooth to the clasp.

And then he smashed the oil container against Thunder.

The troll’s blood on the axe burst into blue flames.

‘It reacts.’

At least he now knew that the Black Horn tribe was a devil and reacted to holy oil.

What about the black energy?

Caesar swung Thunder.

Thunder, glistening with oil, split the troll’s right leg.

“Keuuuuuuugh!”

For the first time, a painful scream escaped the troll’s mouth.

Even as the black energy tried to regenerate the severed right leg somehow, the holy oil was driving out the black energy.

The holy oil was clearly effective.

Caesar struck off the collapsed creature’s head.

Though it tried to block with its arm, it could not stop Caesar’s strength, enhanced by double Berserker stack.

He sliced off both of its arms and cut its neck.

The black energy tried to fly in and regenerate the severed arms and head somehow, but could not due to the holy oil.

Two facts could be learned here:

First, that skull staff was created by a devil.

Second, this troll and that skull staff exist as separate entities.
