Chapter 100
Extreme Heaven Sect.
One of the Seven Evil Heavens, is located in Henan.
In Henan, where the Shaolin and Beggar Sect stood tall, the Extreme Heaven Sect had been deeply rooted, and its influence was widely known throughout the martial arts world.
Though the current Sect Leader might not compare to the previous one, who was considered one of the greatest masters of the era, he was still a formidable peak expert, fully worthy of his position.
“Hwasan Sword Devil!”
The furious roar of the Extreme Heaven Sect’s Leader, infused with internal energy, echoed loudly through the canyon.
The canyon trembled under the reverberating shout, causing small rocks to crumble and fall.
Mu Hwi raised his gaze.
Behind the crowd of warriors filling the narrow, elongated canyon stood the Leader of Extreme Heaven Sect.
“Did you enjoy the last banquet?”
Ignoring the Leader’s words, Mu Hwi scanned the faces of the warriors lining the cliffs.
Their measured steps, sharp gazes, and imposing auras indicated that these were Extreme Heaven Sect’s elites.
Their slightly differing uniforms suggested that all three of Extreme Heaven Sect’s martial divisions had been mobilized.
Beyond them stood the Leader and three elders, likely the highest-ranking figures of the sect.
Mu Hwi’s eyes narrowed as he calmly assessed the situation.
“Did you think this would be enough to kill me?”
“If anything, it’s excessive. We spared no effort to ensure your death.”
Three elite martial divisions, the pride of Extreme Heaven Sect.
Three elders who had reached the peak level.
And the Leader himself.
This was the calculation of Extreme Heaven Sect’s Leader—even a monster like Mu Hwi, with his unparalleled martial prowess, would not survive this.
“For all your talk of being one of the seven Evil Heaven of the evil sects, you’ve brought this much just to kill a mere late-stage foundation level disciple? How pathetic.”
Xian Zhu spat out the words without hesitation, but the Extreme Heaven Sect Leader only snorted in response.
“You’re still naive to the harshness of the martial arts world. That’s why you can speak so carefreely.”
The Leader’s voice was low but carried clearly through the canyon as he stared at Mu Hwi and Xian Zhu.
“Kill them.”
Though softly spoken, the command reached every warrior present.
The Extreme Heaven Sect fighters raised their hand halberds—shortened, dual-wieldable polearms resembling spears, the signature weapon of their sect.
As eight halberds thrust toward them from all directions, Mu Hwi prepared to draw his sword—but Xian Zhu stepped in front of him.
Kkeo-geo-geong!
A golden sword slash, unleashed with a twisting motion of her waist, swept horizontally, deflecting the halberds.
“Brother Mu Hwi. Let me take the front. You need to deal with the big shots behind us. Save your strength.”
“Can you break through to the end?”
“If I can’t even do this, I wouldn’t deserve to fight alongside you.”
The warriors of the Seven Evil Heavens didn’t give Xian Zhu time to wait for Mu Hwi’s answer.
From the sides, they swung their halberds like axes, while three from the front thrust the spear-like tips forward.
In an instant, twelve attacks—each from different angles and styles—rained down.
As expected of a seasoned martial division, their coordination was flawless.
Xian Zhu’s pupils darted rapidly, tracking the movements of the twelve halberds.
Her sword painted the air gold as it moved in sync with her gaze.
Amidst the golden flashes, streaks of purple began to spread.
The momentary openings were created as the Extreme Heaven Sect warriors blocked Xian Zhu’s strikes.
The slight disruptions in their stances as they withstood the force of the Thirty-Six Swords of the World.
The Plum Blossom Sword exploited every gap.
Pa-pa-pat!
A vertical slash sent blood spraying from a warrior’s chest.
Mu Hwi’s swordplay was exquisitely precise.
As if he could see through Xian Zhu’s every move, his blade curved from her flank, or pierced through the tiny openings she created.
Yet Xian Zhu remained unharmed.
Chwa-ja-jak!
The ever-shifting, mesmerizing swordplay of Hwasan was already dazzling enough.
With Mu Hwi’s strikes supplementing her movements, the Extreme Heaven Sect warriors fell with unsettling ease.
With every step Mu Hwi and Xian Zhu took, blood spilled around them.
The canyon turned red as the two advanced, but the warriors refused to let them pass.
“Don’t try to kill them in one strike!”
“Focus on draining their energy!”
These warriors knew how to fight stronger opponents.
Rather than attempting to wound Xian Zhu and Mu Hwi directly, they aimed to prolong the battle.
They were waiting for their stamina and internal energy to deplete.
They knew how to leverage their numbers.
“Gahk!”
“Behind! Watch the Sword Devil more than that girl!”
Still, Xian Zhu and Mu Hwi’s advance did not stop.
Mu Hwi was well aware of their strategy. His countermeasure was simple,
Kill them instantly with sharp, ruthless strikes before they could endure even a single blow.
Screams and groans filled the air.
After cutting down two warriors blocking her path, Xian Zhu’s sword briefly lowered.
“Haa…”
Her breathing grew slightly ragged.
Just as the warriors intended, her stamina and internal energy were being drained.
Moreover, these were not mere foot soldiers—they were elites of the Seven Evil Heavens.
At the very least, they were first-stage foundation level disciples.
Those holding officer positions had naturally reached even higher realms.
Under normal circumstances, breaking through such a force would be impossible with just a slight edge in skill.
But Xian Zhu’s innate talent and Mu Hwi’s support made it possible.
“You’re rushing. Your breathing is uneven. Speed doesn’t matter—what matters is whether you can reach the end of this canyon.”
Puhak!
Mu Hwi’s voice was calm, almost like reciting scripture.
Yet purple sword slashes raced left and right, tearing through flesh in dissonance with his serene tone.
Heads flew above, bisected bodies rolled below.
Mu Hwi’s sword, stained with thick droplets of blood, was uncharacteristically brutal.
Making them bleed profusely was more effective for breaking morale than killing them cleanly.
“Huu…”
Following Mu Hwi’s advice, Xian Zhu relaxed her muscles slightly and exhaled deeply.
Chwa-reu-reuk!
In that moment, a new group of warriors appeared—some wielding halberds in one hand and iron chains in the other.
The chains lashed through the air like whips, entangling toward Xian Zhu and Mu Hwi’s bodies and swords from all directions.
And that wasn’t all.
Cheol-geu-reok!
Three layers of iron nets descended from above.
Their dark color and sharp edges left no doubt—they were made of metal.
“Focus on the chains.”
At Mu Hwi’s instruction, Xian Zhu lowered her gaze and slowly extended her sword.
A golden flash erupted, deflecting the chains.
Ka-ka-kang!
Some chains coiled around her blade, but Xian Zhu vibrated the sword swiftly, shaking them off.
Behind her, five purple sword beams shot vertically.
Teo-teo-teo-teo-tung!
The iron nets shuddered under the upward slashes, lifting back into the air.
Mu Hwi, now airborne with the Dark Scent Flutter technique, hovered at the nets’ height.
‘Poison too, huh.’
The nets were lined with spikes, their tips glistening with dark liquid.
Teo-reong!
Mu Hwi’s left palm struck out, unleashing a massive wave of Plum Blossoms Scattering Hand.
The nets billowed like sails, changing direction and crashing into the Extreme Heaven Sect forces below.
“Agh!”
“Dodge!”
Kwa-ang!
The weight of the triple-layered nets crushed those too slow to evade.
Mu Hwi, still midair, locked eyes with the stone-faced Extreme Heaven Sect Leader before flipping backward.
Twisting his body, he swung the Plum Blossom Sword in a wide arc—scattering petals of purple sword energy in all directions.
The canyon filled with violet light.
Chwa-ja-jak!
Wherever the petals landed, blood bloomed like crimson flowers.
“Graaah!”
The storm of sword energy was enough to shatter the Extreme Heaven Sect formation.
Xian Zhu charged into the gap, carving a path forward.
Step by step, she pressed onward.
“Where do you think you’re going?”
Mu Hwi landed behind her, cutting down warriors trying to flank them.
“A truly astonishing sight.”
“Now I see why the Leader mobilized all three martial divisions—Gyeonggeuk, Yonggeuk, and Honggeuk—and summoned us as well.”
The elders watched Mu Hwi and Xian Zhu with grim expressions.
Even though they’re at their peak, they can’t predict the outcome of this battle.
Mu Hwi’s skill was beyond their comprehension, and Xian Zhu—though not yet at his level—was teetering on the edge of the peak realm.
A single epiphany could push her over.
“Why does the orthodox sects have so many talents? The next generation may shift the balance of power.”
“If we can crush them here, today’s losses will be trivial in comparison.”
Their conversation halted as the Gyeonggeuk and Honggeuk division leaders stepped forward with their deputies, blocking Mu Hwi and Xian Zhu’s path.
“You brats are something else!”
“Enough talk—just kill them!”
The Honggeuk leader crouched low, crossing his halberds to slash at Xian Zhu’s legs.
At the same time, the Gyeonggeuk leader leaped off his shoulders, descending with a killing technique.
Halberd Heaven’s Twin Halberd Dance
Swinging Twin Fangs
Yellow halberd energy surged from the blades, transforming them into massive axes.
The twin golden axes came down on Mu Hwi.
Knowing Mu Hwi had reached the peak realm, the Gyeonggeuk leader had opened with his strongest move—but the result was futile.
Seo-geuk!
Unlike the elaborate technique, Mu Hwi’s response was simple—a single horizontal slash.
A flawless purple line cut through the air.
The Gyeonggeuk leader’s halberds split in half, followed by his robes—and then his chest, gushing blood.
A single exchange was all it took.
The Plum Blossom Sword twisted midair, descending toward the Honggeuk leader, who was locked in combat with Xian Zhu.
“Kuhk!”
Barely dodging the slash that nearly split his skull, the Honggeuk leader lost his balance.
Xian Zhu didn’t miss the opening—her sword pierced his heart.
“Damn… You…”
She coldly pulled her blade free, letting his body collapse.
Beyond him stood the elders and the Extreme Heaven Sect Leader.
For the first time, Xian Zhu’s footsteps halted.
“Brother…”
Panting, she called out to Mu Hwi, her sword held diagonally.
Despite Mu Hwi’s support, she had broken through the elite forces and carved a path.
Small wounds dotted her body, staining her navy robes with dark patches, but the adrenaline kept her from feeling pain.
All that mattered was that she had opened the way for Mu Hwi.
“Look.”
Mu Hwi placed a hand on her shoulder, turning her to face the path they had carved.
The center of Extreme Heaven Sect’s formation had been torn open.
The blood-soaked road they had walked.
“This isn’t just about being slightly stronger. You did well.”
Xian Zhu smiled faintly at his praise.
“Breaking through… Doesn’t mean it’s over, right?”
She steadied her breathing, forcing out the words.
Mu Hwi nodded.
If he engaged the Leader and elders, the remaining warriors wouldn’t just watch.
They had only opened a path—many elites still remained.
The sole surviving division leader, Yonggeuk, approached with twin halberds.
For Mu Hwi to fully focus on the Leader and elders, Xian Zhu would have to hold them off alone.
“Can you do it?”
“Haa… It’s exhausting travelling together. Really.”
Xian Zhu exhaled deeply and raised her sword.
The trembling blade steadied.
With a determined smile, she tore a strip from her robe to bandage her arm and wiped blood from her face.
“Holding the line—that’s what we Jongnam Sect disciples do best, remember?”
“I’ll trust you with it.”
Mu Hwi stepped toward the Extreme Heaven Sect Leader and elders.
Xian Zhu turned to face the remaining elites.
The two crossed paths, swords raised, stepping in opposite directions.
