Chapter 16 Briefing session
Yurik arrived at a room following a beautiful female mage.
While he was briefly looking around the room, a middle-aged man with a bushy beard hurriedly entered.
He briefly introduced himself as Francis and immediately spread out a circuit diagram on the round table.
“Can you explain what this is?”
It was likely a simple verification to determine whether it was genuine or not.
Yurik readily explained the principle of the circuit the middle-aged man had pointed to.
He wanted to explain the effects that occurred when combined with the surrounding circuits, but it seemed that even a full night wouldn’t be enough, so he stopped at an appropriate point.
When he finished explaining and looked up, Francis’s face was filled with uncontrollable excitement.
It must have been the joy of discovering the real deal.
“It really is you. It’s you! The real one has come!”
He immediately rushed over to Yurik, grabbed both of his hands, and laughed heartily while shaking them up and down like crazy.
“Thank you so much for coming! It’s an honor to meet you! ……Ah, I shouldn’t be acting like this. Could you wait here for a moment? I’ll be right back.”
Francis glanced toward the young lady.
She nodded lightly, indicating that she would stay here.
After the middle-aged mage left, only Yurik, the female mage, and someone who appeared to be her escort remained in the room.
“I’m late to introduce myself. I’m Yurik.”
“……I’m Angel.”
As an awkward atmosphere lingered in the room, a crowd of people soon rushed in.
Yurik was suddenly confused about what was happening.
“Are you, are you really the mage who drew this circuit diagram?”
“Indeed, it matches the eyewitness accounts! Young and handsome!”
The mages, excited, surrounded Yurik.
The branch manager shouted at them to calm down.
“Everyone, calm down and step back. We have urgent matters to attend to first!”
Ah, right—. The rational mages suppressed their excitement as much as possible and stepped back.
Then, they gathered around the round table and stared intently at Yurik and the circuit diagram.
“Sir, may we know your name?”
“I’m Yurik.”
“Yurik…!”
The mages nodded and firmly engraved Yurik’s name in their minds.
“We have quite a few questions for you.”
“Yes, I’ll answer as much as I can.”
Questions poured out from all directions, but the branch manager waved his hand at them, signaling them to calm down.
“Everyone, quiet. We won’t get anywhere like this. I’ll start by asking the necessary questions step by step!”
After calming the mages down, the branch manager wiped the sweat from his forehead and, as the representative, asked Yurik:
“When did you start improving this circuit? Was it from the moment the circuit diagram was posted? Or sometime later? And did you work on the improvements alone? Or was there someone else?”
Yurik answered each question one by one.
“It took a total of three days to improve the original circuit diagram. It was indeed a complex and difficult circuit. I struggled quite a bit to improve it. And I worked on it alone.”
The mages looked as if they couldn’t believe what they had just heard.
Francis, standing right behind the branch manager, asked again.
“Did you just say… It took three days? That? ……Alone?!”
“Yes.”
Everyone was astonished. Frankly, it was hard to believe.
However, they didn’t immediately conclude whether it was true or false.
If someone made a claim, as mages, they could prove it themselves!
“Then, can you explain the principle behind this circuit diagram? If possible, we’d like a full explanation of why you made these changes.”
“Of course. But explaining everything will take quite a while.”
“That’s fine. No matter how long it takes, it’s no problem. Right, everyone?”
At the branch manager’s question, everyone present nodded without hesitation.
They had all been eagerly awaiting the appearance of the real deal!
And so, Yurik began explaining the circuit diagram on the spot.
While the explanation was in full swing, the branch manager interrupted briefly to ask for understanding.
“I’m sorry, but I don’t think this is the right place for this. Let me arrange a different location.”
The other mages had been hoping for the same.
Although it was called an explanation of principles, it was almost like a lecture.
His explanation was groundbreaking and unconventional.
By that point, the truth had already been decided.
They were all convinced that everything he had said was true.
“Let’s move to the conference room!”
The mages rushed to the conference room.
They took their seats, prepared to take notes on the important details, and waited for Yurik’s explanation to resume.
“Ahem, let’s begin again.”
And Yurik’s explanation began anew.
The reason for the circuit, how it interacts with surrounding circuits, and further, the combinatorial effects created by dozens of circuits intertwining….
“It’s hard to understand with just words. Here, take a look at this.”
Yurik, who had been explaining while pointing at the circuit diagram on the wall with a pointer, placed it on the table and took two steps forward.
Then, he tilted his hands slightly, gathered mana in his palms, and scattered it over the large round table in the conference room.
—!
The mages’ eyes widened as they saw a magic circle filling the round table.
Ah.
Yurik had drawn the circuit diagram to visually show how the circuits harmonized organically.
As mana entered the input, it traveled along the circuits like veins, activating the diagram.
The mages were speechless at the artistic precision of the process.
Meanwhile, Yurik’s explanation continued.
Showing it visually was far more effective and intuitive than just explaining with words.
“So that’s how it works…!”
“I had no idea those four parts could create such an effect.”
Circuits are infinite.
Naturally, their combinations are also infinite.
Yurik had merely plucked one small possibility from that vast, infinite harmony.
He didn’t consider his circuit diagram perfect.
In that infinite expanse, there must surely be even greater possibilities hidden.
As Yurik’s explanation progressed, the mages tapped the table or their knees with their palms, exclaiming in awe.
Everyone was so focused that they lost track of time.
“Even outdated circuit diagrams can find new uses if improved. So we shouldn’t dismiss them as useless just because they’re old.”
“You’re right. Your thinking is correct, junior.”
Of course, there has been research into reusing outdated designs.
But none had yielded such meaningful results.
Perhaps this occasion would reignite the retro trend that swept the southern magic community decades ago.
The explanation of circuit principles, accompanied by magic circles, continued tirelessly throughout the night.
Honestly, a more detailed explanation would have taken days, so Yurik refrained from going too deep.
After all, everyone here was an expert in their respective fields, so he believed this level of explanation would suffice.
The conference room door, closed since evening, finally opened the next morning.
The mages, exhausted from waiting, woke up at the sound of the door opening and rushed toward those exiting the conference room.
The mages who had directly heard Yurik’s explanation of the circuit diagram were physically tired, but their eyes burned more intensely than ever.
“Let’s head back to the research building right away! There’s a mountain of work to do.”
“Yes, senior!”
The branch manager instructed his subordinate to provide the handsome mage, who had worked so hard, with a comfortable place to rest.
“Make sure he lacks nothing in his accommodations. He’s an honored guest.”
“Understood, Branch Manager.”
Yurik, exhausted from pouring mana and talking all night, also wanted to rest immediately.
The mages gathered in the hallway, having heard rumors that Yurik was the one who drew the circuit diagram, swarmed around him.
However, with the young lady Angel and the branch manager’s subordinate firmly by his side, they could only watch without being able to speak.
Yurik was guided to a VIP accommodation prepared in Section 2.
Having always stayed in cheap inns, he felt an inexplicable itch in his soles and back upon seeing the luxurious room.
“Then, please rest comfortably.”
After the guide left, Yurik was alone in the room.
He threw the bag he was carrying onto the floor and flopped onto the soft bed.
The plush carpet and blankets instantly transported him to heaven.
This must be what it feels like to lie on a warm, fluffy cloud.
He thought to himself that he must buy a good blanket once he earned a lot of money, and slowly drifted off to sleep.
Yurik had a dream.
He was giving his first presentation in a conference room filled with executives.
He completely messed it up and woke up.
Yurik buried his face in the pillow.
A groan escaped him.
It was the first time he recalled a past life memory he didn’t want to remember.
