Chapter 24: First Town in Another World ~ Fortress City Gomena ~

A fortress city with a size second only to the capital city of Baltza in the Baltza Territory. In both name and reality, it is the second city of the Baltza Territory.

Excluding the royal capital, it is among the five largest cities on the eastern side of the kingdom.

What appeared before Tenma’s eyes upon entering Gomena was a medieval European townscape. Stone buildings, each house had different colored walls and roofs. The pastel-colored buildings, cobblestone roads, and crimson sky created a pleasant atmosphere. Tenma felt as if he had wandered into a fairytale world.

Among the buildings along the main street extending from the gate, some had signs displayed. Various signs such as “Inn Green Breeze Pavilion,” “Shoe Store Rondo,” “Weapon Shop Arts” were visible. Deep into the main street, there was an exceptionally large building with a decorative clock attached.

“So they have clocks here.” 

Tenma felt relieved. He was glad that this wasn’t a world with an ambiguous sense of time.

Looking at the clock face, it was the same as Earth’s. The clock showed 5:40.

As Tenma was looking around curiously with darting eyes, the carriage turned right. It entered behind a blue-walled mansion.

“We’ve arrived” said Mario as he descended from the driver’s seat, urging Tenma to get down as well. After everyone had disembarked from the carriage, a well-dressed woman emerged from the mansion, leading servants.

Alf received a signed paper from Marny.

“Welcome home, master,” the woman in the dress greeted Marny.

“I’m back, Aria. This trip was difficult. It’s thanks to the Serpent and young Tenma here that I made it back safely. Alf, Tenma, thank you.”

“Don’t worry about it, Mr. Marny. We were just doing our job.”

“I don’t need any special thanks since I was merely allowed to ride in the carriage.”

Alf and Tenma responded to Marny’s words.

“It’s late today, so please come to the store tomorrow. I’m sure I can offer some sort of reward. Sebas, please unload the luggage. Well then, until tomorrow.”

With those words, Marny entered the mansion with Aria.

“Well, we should get moving too. Follow me, Tenma.”

Following Alf who was leaving the mansion, Tenma also stepped outside. They returned to the main street and headed toward the large building with the decorative clock. Leaf and Mario followed behind Tenma.

Alf pushed open the double doors forcefully.

“Master, are you here?”

Various gazes gathered at his loud, carrying voice. Interest, anger, hostility. Alf continued walking, ignoring the various stares.

While admiring Alf’s attitude, Tenma thought, 

‘Isn’t it Alf who said my presence would stand out? If the person who said that stands out himself, wouldn’t I also stand out as his companion?’ 

Tenma was perplexed.

As if sensing Tenma’s confusion, Mario said, 

“Alf can be troublesome, can’t he? This is the Adventurers Guild. From here on, Alf and I will be fine. Leaf, please arrange for lodging.”

Hearing Mario’s words, Leaf turned on her heel and silently left the guild. Then, Tenma followed along with Mario, pursuing Alf who was walking toward the counter at the back.
