Chapter 11
Zeke was momentarily taken aback by the drunk man’s words.
‘He noticed the Healing Factor?’
His pupils contracted and muscles tensed at the sudden situation.
However, he soon regained his composure as his ‘Sturdy Mental Defense’ skill activated.
“I don’t understand what you’re talking about.”
He didn’t know who the man in front of him was.
It seemed better to pretend not to know rather than speak carelessly.
The drunk man smacked his lips while checking if there was any alcohol left, then dusted off his hands.
“Hmm… going to deny it?”
That’s when it happened.
Suddenly, the drunk man lunged at Zeke.
‘An attack?’
Before he could see the attack, the man’s sharp hand strike flew toward his face.
Zeke rolled his body and fell under the bed to avoid the strike.
Simultaneously, he kicked up the mattress to block the man’s line of sight.
Then, as he landed, he extended his leg under the bed to attack the man’s knee.
Bang!
The attack was futile as the drunk man jumped into the air.
Zeke went completely under the bed and kicked the bed upward.
Clang!
The metal bed frame flew into the air.
Whoosh!
Zeke rolled his body and moved straight toward the door that led outside.
He grabbed the claymore that had been standing beside him as he got up.
SHING!
Zeke was surprised as he drew his claymore.
‘That’s…?’
He saw the man performing what looked like an acrobatic trick, balancing on the corner of the bed frame while doing a handstand in mid-air.
The man made a stable jump and gently pushed the frame with his foot to return the bed to its original position.
This wasn’t the movement of an ordinary knight.
Zeke pointed his claymore at the man and spoke.
“Which assassin sent you?”
He could have been an assassin placed by other direct bloodline members to keep him in check.
The man tilted his head while picking his ear after hearing Zeke’s words.
“The more I look at you, the more peculiar you seem.”
The man ignored Zeke’s question and slowly approached him.
In response, Zeke closed the distance with Flash steps and thrust his sword in a single fatal strike.
WHOOSH!
It was a strike that combined the momentum of Flash steps, a fatal blow, and the strength of a mighty warrior.
However, the man simply reached out and caught Zeke’s sword between his fingers.
“Hmm…”
Zeke tried to pull his sword free from between the man’s fingers, but it wouldn’t budge.
‘He’s not just an ordinary assassin.’
Zeke immediately released the sword and stepped back.
The man looked at Zeke curiously while examining the claymore caught between his fingers.
“A Draker abandoning his sword and retreating?”
His voice was closer to curiosity than criticism.
SWISH!
When the man turned his hand, the claymore was suddenly in his grip.
Zeke changed his attitude and asked the man.
“May I ask who you are?”
With this level of skill, he had to be at least a Blue Knight.
At first, he had suspected him to be an assassin disguised as a healer.
But watching his actions, it didn’t seem like he intended to kill Zeke.
‘If he had decided to kill me, I would already be dead.’
That’s how big the gap in ability was between Zeke and the man.
The man scratched his unkempt beard and threw the claymore he was holding to Zeke.
THUMP!
Zeke easily caught the heavy claymore.
That’s when it happened.
The man’s figure in front of him disappeared.
‘Behind?’
In an instant, Zeke found himself caught from behind by the man.
‘At this level, he might even be a Red Knight.’
Cold sweat formed on his forehead.
The man grabbed Zeke’s shoulder and spoke.
“My name is Dexter.”
It was a name he had never heard even in his previous life.
Dexter whispered to Zeke.
“Kid. If you feel like talking, come find me at the greenhouse west of the academy.”
With those words, the man’s presence vanished.
When Zeke turned around, sure enough, the man was nowhere to be seen.
‘Just who on earth is he?’
Cold sweat beaded on his back.
This was the first time since his regression that he had felt such frustration.
He had only felt this way once in his previous life.
‘First time since my master.’
Even considering that his current state was far from his previous life’s abilities, Dexter’s skills were extraordinary.
As Zeke sheathed his sword, he tried to recall if there was any information from his previous life that matched the man.
‘There’s nothing that exactly matches this Dexter…’
Then a piece of information flashed through his mind.
‘Wait, if it’s that person…’
If his thoughts were correct, he could also understand why Andrei was at the academy now.
Zeke’s eyes flashed.
***
A week had passed since Zeke met Dexter.
During that time, Zeke quietly focused only on attending classes, not even looking towards the western greenhouse as if nothing had happened with Dexter.
During basic dragon-slaying training hours, he practiced meditation in the Platinum Floor’s private training room, and only came out when there were other classes.
Right now, Zeke was in the large lecture hall to attend one of the few lecture-style classes at the academy, Magic Theory.
In the tiered lecture hall, the instructor was enthusiastically teaching the theory about magical properties and the principles of magic manifestation.
Other students weren’t very interested in theory classes. After all, what mattered was practical application.
However, surprisingly, Zeke was diligently listening to the magic theory lecture while even taking notes.
Other group students who disliked Zeke were looking at him with curiosity.
‘I didn’t realize when I heard it before, but listening to it again, there’s a lot of useful content.’
In his previous life, he was bullied so much and had difficulty keeping up with practical classes that he couldn’t afford to focus on theory classes.
After leaving the academy, he learned almost everything through practical experience by stumbling through it himself.
He never had the opportunity to take systematic theory classes separately.
Now that he was looking at systematically organized theory with practical experience ingrained in his body, he naturally understood things he had known only intuitively.
‘Ah, so that’s why when a magician constructs a magic formula, simply striking with a shield can actually cause damage due to the reaction force.’
Zeke guessed that the lecturing instructor was no ordinary magician.
As he expected, Feinan, the Magic Theory course instructor, was a scholarship graduate from the National Magic University of Delpoa, known as the birthplace of magic.
However, Feinan himself was tired of working in the academy, a space by knights, for knights, and only for knights.
The reason he came to work as an academy instructor despite being famous as a genius at Delpoa Magic University was because of the stable research environment.
That’s why he took the job as an academy instructor despite many seniors trying to dissuade him.
‘Sigh… there was a reason why seniors tried to stop me.’
Since the magic theory class was conducted almost purely as a formality, it was nonsensical to expect enthusiasm from knight-aspirant students.
And following that atmosphere, he too had unconsciously begun teaching mechanically.
But that’s when it happened.
“Professor, I have a question.”
Feinan thought he had misheard something.
‘Haha, now I’m even hearing things.’
But then the voice came again.
“I don’t quite understand the magic conversion operation formula you just explained.”
Feinan turned around in surprise.
There really was a student who asked a question during class.
Turning his head, Feinan adjusted his glasses and stammered.
“Ma-magic conversion operation formula? Which part?”
Zeke clearly articulated the part he was curious about.
“Ah, for this one. You need to adjust the magic constant value.”
Zeke nodded in understanding at Feinan’s kind explanation.
Feinan was moved seeing Zeke understand his explanation after just one explanation.
“Per-perhaps do you have any other things you don’t understand?”
At his words, Zeke asked several more questions about parts he was curious about.
Feinan was slightly surprised while listening to Zeke’s questions.
‘Considering he doesn’t know the basic formulas, these are quite in-depth questions?’
Before they knew it, the class was being filled almost entirely with the Q&A between Feinan and Zeke.
DING! DING! DING! DING!
As the bell rang and theory class ended, students stood up for their next practical class.
Zeke only stood up after asking Feinan a few more necessary questions.
“Ju-just a moment, student Zeke.”
Feinan called out to him, and Zeke turned around.
“If you have any more questions, feel free to come to my research lab anytime. It’s in the last room on basement level 2 of the research building.”
“I understand, Professor.”
Zeke left the lecture hall while receiving Feinan’s affectionate gaze.
“Maybe because he’s a young professor, he’s full of passion.”
Although he wasn’t sure if he would have more questions, Zeke’s principle was that there was nothing bad about becoming friendly with a mage.
‘There’s nothing as useful as a mage as a companion.’
Mages were quick with calculations and excellent at handling situations, adapting flexibly anywhere.
In contrast, knights often became burdens in crisis situations due to their lack of flexibility from focusing only on sword training.
Zeke was recalling the content he had learned from Feinan as he walked out of the building.
But someone was lying on a bench in the courtyard outside the building.
‘That person is…’
As Zeke came out of the building, Dexter slowly got up from his seat.
He scratched his scruffy beard and said while looking at Zeke.
“The more I see you, the more interesting you are, kid.”
Zeke spoke towards Dexter.
“What brings you here, your excellency?.”
Dexter said as he rose from his seat.
“Hey kid. Didn’t you hear what I said back then?”
Zeke looked at him straight and answered.
“No, I heard you.”
Dexter looked at Zeke as if in disbelief.
“Huh… Then why didn’t you come to the greenhouse?”
Zeke spoke in a calm voice.
“I was busy with personal training.”
At his words, Dexter’s mouth gaped open.
Then, after closing his mouth a moment later, thinking about something, he pondered for a while before raising his head and looking at Zeke.
“Is that so?”
In that instant, Dexter’s body vanished.
Even though Zeke was on high alert with his combat senses, he missed Dexter’s movement in front of him.
Then Dexter appeared behind him and lightly tapped Zeke’s neck.
“This……”
Well damn.
Zeke couldn’t finish his words and collapsed right there.
Dexter took the fallen Zeke and disappeared somewhere.
* * *
“Mmm……”
Zeke barely regained consciousness.
As soon as he opened his eyes, he saw intense grass scent and green leaves.
Zeke quickly got up.
‘Have I been kidnapped?’
He looked around his surroundings.
“Where is this?”
Inside a building made of glass windows, numerous grasses and trees were growing.
“Kid, are you coming to your senses?”
When he turned his head, Dexter was watering the trees.
After finishing that, Dexter gulped down a potion mixed with alcohol.
“Ugh!”
A strong smell of alcohol wafted through the air.
Zeke spoke towards Dexter.
“Did you kidnap me?”
Then Dexter put down the water container and said.
“Yeah. That’s right. Kidnapped.”
At his words, Zeke calmly scanned his surroundings.
‘There’s one escape route in the back, one in the east, and one across.’
After instinctively identifying the escape routes first, Zeke began to move his body little by little.
Seeing this, Dexter grinned.
“Why are you trying to run away?”
His figure disappeared again.
Zeke instinctively rolled his body to the side.
“Oh my, I’m over here.”
Dexter appeared from the direction where Zeke had rolled.
Zeke maintained his posture while being wary of Dexter.
“Just who are you?”
Then Dexter grinned.
“I’ll tell you if you can catch me just once.”
Dexter gestured at Zeke as if telling him to try and catch him.
Looking at Dexter, Zeke was actually thinking something else.
‘Good. He took the bait.’
While he appeared to be a thirteen-year-old kid on the outside, inside he was a seasoned warrior who had been through everything.
‘Dexter is an alias.’
Zeke already knew who he was.
That’s why he deliberately didn’t go to the greenhouse and induced him to come looking for him.
‘His real name is the Knight of the Windstorm. Duke Draker.’
Zeke gulped while looking at him.
‘In the past… he was a Draker Black Knight.’
