The Demon King Always Wants to Surrender
Chapter 2
Marta brought Tyr and followed this mysterious demon race member away from Suixing Town.
Along the way, she was surprised to discover that this demon race member was so out of touch with worldly affairs that he seemed to come from another world. He asked many things that should have been common knowledge, such as a year having thirteen months, the waxing and waning of the moon being due to two demon wolves chasing and gnawing at it, the earth being a flat plane, and the great sea at the edge of the world cascading into the abyss like a waterfall… Every time she explained a piece of common knowledge, Anomis’ expression became more colorful.
Finally, although he already had an ominous premonition, Anomis still bit the bullet and asked:
“There’s no reproductive isolation between demons and humans?”
“Repro… reproductive what?”
“The One Drop Rule – as long as one drop of demon blood flows through you, you’re a complete demon race member.”
Anomis repeated,
“In other words, humans and demons can have children together, and their descendants can continue to reproduce among themselves. Doesn’t this mean that humans and demons are actually the same species?”
Marta was puzzled,
“Aren’t you a demon? How could you not know that demons can give birth to offspring with all living beings?”
“Huh?”
Anomis was shocked.
“As long as one drop of demon blood flows through you, you can inherit the characteristics of the demon race and reproduce with any race of any gender. Reproducing with dragons gives birth to Dragon Demon Women, reproducing with the undead gives birth to immortals, reproducing with…”
As Marta’s narration continued, Anomis was completely shaken. If the flat earth theory could still be explained by insufficient technological development, then this Demon Reproduction Law fundamentally negated his materialist worldview! Working backwards, if this law holds true, does it mean that other common knowledge is also valid?
Speaking of this, Tyr, who had been silently following behind, suddenly kicked a small stone hard. Obviously, the demon race content in the previous conversation was overwhelming, making it unbearable for him who hadn’t mentally adjusted yet.
Anomis even felt a bit sorry for him, like those constantly barking little dogs who bark loudly only because they’re afraid. Alright, from now on his nickname would be Teddy!
Actually, it wasn’t incomprehensible to understand Teddy. Really, hating demons was just too normal! Anomis remembered his first dinner after being picked up. On the plate was an upright human hand with flowers thoughtfully inserted on top! And a circle of eyeballs for garnish! Oh wonderful, they even remembered to garnish his dinner during wartime, so thoughtful… NOT!
Demons were really so damn evil and twisted!
Marta was still continuing that topic about reproduction. She also mentioned in passing that although there was magic to identify demon bloodlines, among the royal family where inheritance conditions were more stringent, “Purity Sacrifice” was still popular. All princes, upon reaching adulthood, would be required to have relations with a ewe, and only if the ewe didn’t become pregnant could they prove the prince’s pure bloodline and have a chance to participate in inheritance.
Anomis: “No, you humans’ preferences are just as twisted as the demons’!”
Anomis: “I don’t understand, but I’m greatly shocked.”
Anomis was too busy being shocked to notice that Marta quietly breathed a sigh of relief. She had thought this mysterious young demon would inquire about Tyr’s father, but unexpectedly he seemed completely uninterested, as if it were just a very ordinary matter.
But just because Anomis didn’t care didn’t mean Tyr wasn’t bothered by it.
Tyr’s lifelong dream had been to join the Imperial Army, hunt demons to build military merit, and make those who looked down on him and his mother get slapped in the face hard. But now, all positions were reversed – he himself was that hateful demon. Now his mother was still casually flirting with that demon as if nothing had happened, which was too unbearable!
He stopped walking, full of resentment, and finally couldn’t help but question:
“Why… why did you give birth to me!”
Marta’s face immediately turned deathly pale, and she uncomfortably averted her gaze.
“You know very well how evil the demon race is! Why would you be with those bad people! If it weren’t for you… if you had been a bit more chaste… it wouldn’t be like this now…”
As he spoke, Tyr suddenly realized something was wrong; looking back, Anomis had already walked far away!
“Hey! You… How could you just walk away like that!”
Tyr immediately chased after him.
No way, he wasn’t good at family drama, and he didn’t like judging others. Anomis quickened his escape pace. Besides, he knew that often when people argued, it wasn’t because of who was right or wrong, it was just… everyone felt wronged.
“You risked danger to come to human territory, was it for that child?”
A raven silently landed on a tree branch, its feathers black as oil, with gold and silver heterochromatic pupils locked onto Anomis, but the voice that emerged was low and full of oppressive male tones.
“…Seleinu.”
Anomis showed no expression, but inside his heart was screaming like a groundhog.
It was this guy! The culprit who made him be mistaken for the Demon King!
Anomis would never forget their first meeting.
At that moment, his memory had been stuck on the comic convention venue the previous second, just opening a bathroom door, and the next second he was standing in the center of an ashen battlefield. A few kilometers around looked like a nuclear explosion site, leaving behind a giant crater still steaming with heat. The trees were charred black, rocks had melted into slowly flowing lava under high temperatures, and there were some human-shaped black shadows imprinted on the ground.
To his left stood a hero in holy knight attire, with pale golden long hair and emerald green eyes, silver armor gleaming in the sunlight, so sacred he practically had soft lighting effects and hallelujah background music. Except his gaze was cold, leaning on his holy sword to barely stand, watching this intruder warily.
To his right knelt a bronze-skinned, dark-haired young man of foreign ethnicity, his medieval noble clothing and cloak already tattered, embarrassed bloodstains covering his body. The unwillingness and despair in his gold and silver heterochromatic eyes hadn’t yet dissipated, but because of Anomis’s arrival, an unusual light emerged.
It was then that Anomis laughed out loud. Because an inappropriate cold joke floated through his mind: “The Holy Roman Empire was neither holy, nor Roman, nor an empire.Roman history enthusiast rage.”
Then, before anyone could react, Seleinu suddenly stepped forward and tightly embraced Anomis. He held so tight, as if that was his entire world, with the smell of smoke, fire, and blood filling the space between them. His voice was almost trembling as he said:
“You’ve finally returned… Your Majesty!”
Anomis also trembled: ‘Holy shit! Gay!!!’
At this moment, the raven with the same heterochromatic eyes stood on the branch, his tone unfriendly:
“Just this? Such a trivial matter could be handled by subordinates. Why would you risk danger personally?”
“…Aren’t you supposed to be blocked by the hero in the Demon King’s territory and unable to come out?”
It was precisely because he was certain they couldn’t come out that Anomis had mustered the courage to sneak away, while internally thanking Hero Noah eight hundred times. Now it seemed, hero, are you reliable or not? How did you let the enemy’s big boss escape!
“My deepest apologies for appearing before you in such a disrespectful form. I am currently just a projection, my main body is still in the Demon King’s territory.”
The raven lowered its head in shame, then swept its sharp gaze over Marta and Tyr,
“You want them? The demon child can be brought back, but not the human.”
Hearing this, Tyr was about to step forward to object when those eerie heterochromatic eyes casually swept over him, and he suddenly went weak in the knees, falling to the ground with a THUD.
There was special bloodline suppression among demons – the closer the bloodline was to the original species, the stronger the pressure on lower-level demons. Even though Seleinu’s projection here wasn’t even one percent of his main body, just existing here was already terrifying enough.
“Bring her along.”
Anomis said,
“If you can’t take away this many people, I can go back by myself.”
Tyr suddenly looked up. Although he didn’t want to go, he had no choice but to do so to survive. But now, this demon was not only fighting for his opportunity but also for his mother’s, even willing to put himself in danger for it?
This little brat had no idea that Anomis’s mind was full of: ‘Please say you can’t handle it, so I can defect to the Imperial Army alone!’
“Someone as noble as you shouldn’t have relations with lowly humans!”
The raven argued.
Hearing lowly humans, Anomis trembled imperceptibly. This was it! He screamed frantically in his heart – they absolutely must not discover that he was human! He didn’t want to be served on a plate at the dinner table!
“Bring her back as emergency food reserves.”
Although internally collapsing, Anomis appeared quite casual, remembering to add a patch at the end,
“She’s mine, no one may dispose of her without permission.”
The raven struggled internally for a moment. He indeed couldn’t use teleportation to take away so many people right now because the Imperial Army had set up interference barriers around their camp. But leaving the Demon King alone here was obviously unacceptable. Finally, he offered a compromise:
“There’s one of our strongholds nearby where they can be settled. Please come with me.”
Watching the raven fly away, Anomis sighed deeply. It seemed his surrender plan had gained quite a few more variables.
But right now—
Anomis extended his hand toward Tyr.
Tyr instinctively grasped it, but seeing those cold red eyes, couldn’t help but shrink back. Then, Anomis gripped his hand and pulled him up from the muddy ground.
That hand was even warmer than a human’s.
“Basically, I can understand your hatred of demons…”
Anomis tried hard to delete the dinner memory from his recollection, swallowing tears of sympathy while patting Tyr’s little head,
“But this is the only way you have left to survive, right? If that’s the case, grit your teeth and live on.”
Although he didn’t understand the story behind this mother and son, Anomis could actually see that although Tyr’s clothes were of poor quality, they had the faint fragrance of soap, his slightly curly brown hair was neatly combed, and his nails were trimmed very cleanly. A child cared for so well couldn’t possibly live in a loveless family.
He glanced at Marta, then looked at Tyr again.
“Rather than abstract concepts, what’s more important are specific people. You can continue to hate demons you’ve never seen, but likewise, remember to love the mother who’s always been by your side.”
“After all, you only have each other now.”
Tears suddenly welled up in Tyr’s eyes. He looked at his mother, then at Anomis. He was actually just a ten-year-old child who had always been scared and at a loss, but at this moment, holding Anomis’s hand seemed to suddenly give him strength.
The raven on the branch quietly watched all this, its gaze cold and unfathomably deep.
At the same time, Seleinu, whose main body was trapped in the Demon King’s territory, withdrew his sight from the projection raven and slowly opened those eerie heterochromatic eyes. These eyes were called ominous by both demons and humans alike, a mixed-blood despised by both sides. At this moment, there was no longer any trace of the respect, worry, and submission he showed when facing the Demon King. Instead, there was endless contempt and disgust.
He stared at the hands that had once touched the Demon King, suddenly removed his white gloves, and pitch-black flames ignited out of nowhere, burning those gloves completely clean.
Because he so thoroughly despised humans.
And it was only after that embrace that he realized this thing, which was almost identical to the previous Demon King, was a complete and utter human.
This story is very interesting but the first chapter is from another! It took me a while to understand lolol
